Something Good Can Work

Holes in the sky.

It's been two weeks since the bonfire. I've felt different ever since that night, more enlightened so to speak. I saw beauty in everything again--the frog leaping in the grass, the baby bee buzzing near a flower, everything is illuminated

. "Hey, pass me a napkin?" I ask Harry as we sit cuddled in my bed, watching Aladdin playing on the screen. I've had some kind of crud for almost a week now, gran thinks I need to go to the doctor, but I keep assuring her it will pass. It's just a cold. Nothing tea and honey won't cure, and of course Harry. He'd brought home made soup his mother made especially for me and I was feeling much better, mostly. I felt warm and uncomfortably cold at the same time. He handed the napkin to me, taking my bowl of soup and placing it on the night stand. "You all right? You're burning up." He said, noticing the clammy sweat on my hands. "I'm fine, my mom used to say there was no better cure than a good fever."

She did. We rarely went to the doctor, she was creeped out by doctors offices and especially hospitals. She said they smelled of death and life at the same time and left her feeling out of whack. She was normally drunk. "I can get your gran?" Harry offered, pressing the back of his hand against my forehead. "I'm fine, knock it off." I say as I swat his hand away. Shaking my head while I pulled the blanket over me and snuggled into the bed. I must have fallen asleep instantly, I remember waking briefly while Harry said goodbye, but it wasn't until around three a.m. When I really woke up.

My eyes popped open, a burning sensation in my chest as I gasped for air. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my rib cage and I could barley catch my breath. I flung the blanket off of me, standing up and gasping for air as I buckled over. I managed to make it out of my room. The last thing I remember was reaching for Louis' doorknob.

I'm in a field of peonys. The scent filling up my nostrils as I look up to a blue sky, decorated with fluffy white clouds in peculiar shapes. My mother is there, she's smiling at me with an extended hand. I reach to take it, but I can never quite grasp it. The closer I get, the farther she goes. I try to yell her name, I cry out for my mother, but not one sound leaves my throat. I want to cry, the clouds are moving swiftly and changing quickly into an ominous gray tinted threat.
"Baby, wake up." I hear my grans faint voice calling from far away. I'm looking every where, I can't see her. I can't find her. The bright pink flowers are quickly withering into ash that is blowing in the wind around me.
Where am I? What is this?
I feel the pain in my chest again and fall to my knees, clutching my blouse against my skin.

"We're losing her!" I hear a voice from no where in particular.
"It's okay baby..." My mother says as she appeared in front of me. Her normally vibrant pale blonde hair was covered with ash, her white linen dress stained with smoke as it blew tattered in the gusts. Her hand was so close, I was scared to take it though.

"We got her!" The nurse called as I gasped and opened my eyes, I was greeted with harsh fluorescent lights hanging from the ceiling and nurses in teal scrubs with masks over their faces. I wanted to scream, but that damned pain was still there. "Stay with me Summer" the nurse said, her kind eyes pleading to me. I nodded, not saying a word. Unsure as to whether or not I actually could say a word.

My eyes slowly blinked open, my mouth was uncomfortably dry, and I felt stiff as a board. I leaned my head up slightly, looking to see a needle placed in a fat purple vein on the back of my hand. There were sticky tabs on my chest and a cannula in my nose. The room was a blur, but finally I hear my gran stir. "Summer, sweetie." She said softly, taking my unoccupied hand in hers and giving it a squeeze. "She's awake Harry." I hear her call and I blink.
Harry is here. Harry.
I see his puffy eyes and his swollen lips as he looks over me. "Hey you..." He says with the faintest of smiles.
I blink.
What happened?

Notes

I listened to a bunch of m83 for this and also Lou reed.

So I've decided to take this in a little different direction than originally intended. Because really, I kind of fell in love with Harry and Summer and don't want to mess it up wth silly love games.
