Crossed (On Hold)

Come on

I've always wanted to change who I have become. I wanted to change how I always mess up with people around me. I always make the mistake of blocking them out, shutting off my feelings and letting them down. For instance, my sister. All she wanted to do was help me figure life out. And of course, being me, I didn't let her. And for my parents, I guess I wasn't honest when I told them about who I was. I know that was a let down. And now my boyfriend. He was always so loving and never wanted me to feel bad. That was until I told him to ease off when all I wanted was more. I see the pattern and I know I should change it. It's taken over my life.

I finally sit down at the table. Where is she? As I wait for Hannah to arrive, I watch the cars pass by. I've always wondered what places people are headed to or what they are about to experience. It makes me think every time. I guess being curious runs in the family. Or at least it runs in me and my sister's blood. She always thought about people and how they worked or what they felt. She was always so intrigued by humans. No wonder people despise her now. Her antisipation led people to leave their families and die.

I see hannah walk in the door. Her dark brown hair in a bun. She must've just came from the gym becaus she was in her exercise clothes. She talks with the hostess for a while until she is directed to me. Instantly her face lightens and she runs towards me, smiling big. I stand up to hug her. Hannah squeals and squeezes me with her arms. Kind of embarrassing, but it never bothers me. I smile at how happy she is and we both sit down. "So," she began,"How's my bestfriend?" The family behind her look back as if we are yelling throughout the cafe. I sigh. "Not so good." My happiness dropped from a 10 to a 0. Thinking of Harry always made me sad.

Hannah frowned and looked at the menu. As she pretends to study hard, a waiter comes to take our order. "Drinks for the lovely ladies?" He asked. Hannah eased her eyes from the menu and looks at him. She rubs her chin decidingly. "Can I have your best abusive relationship and I need to get drunk' cocktail? And a coke?" She keeps a serious face as he chuckles then stops, thinking she's serious. "Coffee and a coke coming right up," he says and leaves awkwardly.

"Rick, he's not good enough for you. He'll only make you worse." Hannah sighed. It made her upset to see me broken.

"I know," I mumbled "I just don't know what he'll do without me. I love him too much." She looked at me with big, worried eyes. I've never seen her so sad.

She shook her head. I know I disapointed her too. I stood up from the seat with my coffee in hand. Fixing my skirt and clearing my throat, I walked over to her. She grabbed my free hand and helped herself up, wiping a tear from her eye.

"Han, please, please don't cry for me," I say, my voice cracking. "I'll figure out what to do. I always do." She looked at me. Her face changed quickly form sad to unconvinced. "Ramona Lee Black. anyone who knows you, sure as hell knows you can't make things better for anything." We both laughed. "And that is why I'm going to help you, because that's what sisters do." She smiled at me.

Hannah always knows how to make me feel better. But this time my mind was taken off of her. As I fakely smiled, my mind overfilled with memories of my real sister. Memories of fighting and crying. I never meant to hurt her.

"Uh hello, Ricky home?" I fell from my thoughts and looked at her, clueless. She sighed and repeated, "Are you ready to go to the mall? I've just paid for our meal." I nod and we start to leave, walking down the line of filled tables. As I pass each one, I hear laughter. Somehow, I see it in slow motion. Like in movies, the people are as happy as ever. And I walked if I've just been torn from life. My head starts to hurt. Why can't I focus?

We walk out the glass doors to the parking lot. It was quite rainy. People drove down the freshly paved streets. This town has only been here for 10 years. Shame I couldn't enjoy this beautiful day with Harry. As we walk to my car, I see a man running towards us. He's shouting, but we are too far away to hear. As he gets closer I can see his appearance. He has black hair and stubble around his chin and down his neck. His eyes were deep brown. He had such a beautiful face, I thought he was a model.
"Come on Ramona" Han grabbed my arm. What?

We ran down the ally, following the man. As we reached the back of a shop, I saw another guy on the floor, his eyes were closed. I had no idea why we were here. Hannah and I saw the gorgeous man and ran after him. I was too busy studying his looks that I hadn't heard anything he said, but obviously Hannah did.

He looked at us. His eyes were big and scared. He looked like a sad puppy. As he began to speak, the kid on the ground started to mumble but fell back asleep. Thank god he's not dead. The guy continued. "You see, my mate here went mental in this here canabis shop," he pointed to the building we were behind. "Even knocked out a grandad. Staff, threw him out," he spoke, throwing his arms in front of him. His accent was beautiful. And his facial expressions really showed the situation. "Lad ate too many hash biscuits. I think he's got poisoning." He laughed at his own friend, I'm guessing. I look to the man on the floor then back up to the one in front of me. "Can't you call the hospital? I'm sure they could send someone over to help," I asked, trying to help.

He laughed at me and shook his head in his hands. "You think he's got a medic card?" He asked me, thinking I was stupid. "The lad will get locked in the house. You know, he's got an ounce in his pocket. Mate will take 10 years." He started laughing again. I was starting to think he was an asshole. This was serious matter, his friend could get seriously sick. I looked at him with a stern look. "Alright, if there is no need for doctors then what is our part here?" I asked. His laughing died down.

"Help me get him to my car. Got to get him home before his beard takes his money." I rest my hands on my hips. Does he honestly think us two girls will help a stranger get his unconscious friend into his car. I look at Hannah to see her reaction, but she's looking at the sleeping man. Her face was curious. What in the hell is she thinking. She turned to the guy and nodded her head. "We'll do it," she stated. I was shocked. "What. Han-" "Ricky, we have to help or these boys will get in a serious mess," she interrupted. The dark haired man stepped closer to us and stuck out his hand. "We're no rugrats, love," he added. Hannah put her hand in his face. "What do you say Rick?" she added.

I shook my my head and smiled. I had no idea what was about to happen, but I know we'd be in a pretty awkward situation. I looked back up, her face was filled with antisipation. "Well," I began, "I suppose we-" "Alright! Sir, you've got two excellent body lifters," she interrupted, again. The way she said it was almost criminal. The man smiled and pointed to his car. " By the way, I'm Zayn." He held his hand out for me to shake. I lightly shook it. My hand looked childlike compared to his. Zayn. That was cute.

We lifted his friend into the backseat of his black Range Rover. "Thanks girls. Appreciate it." Zayn smiled and shut the door on his friend. "I'm sure Liam Here will be grateful you saved him from the locker." He chuckled at his friend. He looked into the car and then leaned on the door, looking at us. "So.." he started," Where to now, for the lovely gals?" I looked over at Hannah. She blushed. Oh come on, he wasn't that smooth. After waiting for Hannah to respond, which she didn't, I spoke. "The mall. Why?" I could hear the toughness in my voice. He looked down and smiled. "I don't suppose," he looked at me, " I could get your mobile?" That was smooth. I looked back at Hannah. Her face was now red with envy.

I smiled at Zayn and looked into the window. I couldn't see anything due to the reflecting Of dark clouds. I stuck my hand in my purse to find a business card. I pulled one out and handed it to him. His reaction was surprised at first, but then amused. "Ramona Black. Major in liturature and business. Wow your email is-" he stopped. Why did he stop? "Black? You're Melanie's sister?" He stood straight. Was it that bad that I was? I looked at him confused. "You know," he spoke, "I've got to get Liam home. See you around." And with that he hurried to his door and drove off, leaving me and Hannah speechless.

We looked at eachother and laughed. "To the mall?" she asked. "To ze mall!" I rose a fist in the air. We laughed again and skipped to her car. Shit, I never knew people were so scared.
