Jana smiled a little, surprised to see Melanie walking into the kitchen behind Niall, holding his hand tight, with tear stained cheeks.
‘’What.. what happened?’’ She asks concerned, meeting them halfway.
‘’She called me to the school again, she got messed with again.’’ Niall sighs, glancing over at Melanie to see her staring at her feet, her hand gripping his tight.
‘’Why didn’t Cody or Tori go get her?” Jana asks, curious that’s the only reason.
‘’She didn’t want them.. she wanted me to come get her, so I did.’’ Niall replies, not trying to be a smart ass about it, it was the honest truth.
‘’You want some hot chocolate, babe?’’ Jana asks, putting her hand on Melanie’s cold cheek.
She nods lightly, smiling just a tad, ‘’Please Jay, please.’’
‘’Anything for you, I’ll get right on it.’’ Jana smiles, kissing her forehead lightly before removing her hand and heading to the counter to begin the drink for Mel.
‘’Can I go to the studio?’’ Melanie asks Niall, looking up at him.
‘’Sure babe, just make sure you shut the door.’’ Niall nods, leaning down to place a kiss on her cheek.
She nods, ‘’Okay.’’
Before long, Niall had let her hand go and she was gone from the room, heading to get a little peace and quiet and be locked away from the world.
“What they do this time?’’ Jana asks, looking over to shoulder to make sure Niall was still there. She saw him walking over to her, so she turned her attention back on the cup of milk in the microwave.
‘’The usual.’’ Niall mumbles, his hands on Jana’s waist as he rests his chin on her shoulder, leaning down to get closer to her.
‘’What are we going to do about it?’’ She sighs, unsure of this situation at the moment, but Niall soon answers her thougths.
‘’I’m taking her out of school, homeschooling her here with everyone else.’’ Niall says.
‘’But baby, you can’t just pull her from school, you’re not her legal-‘’
‘’I don’t care anymore Jana, if that’s the reason.. then maybe I’ll have to change that.’’ Niall says, leaning away from her, she ruined the moment for him.
‘’What.. what are talking about?’’ Jana asks, turning to face him, her hands pressed onto the counter behind her.
‘’I’ll take that bastard to court if I have to. He doesn’t love that child, and she doesn’t love him. Why should they both have to suffer and live with something they don’t want?’’ Niall shrugs lightly, looking down at his feet.
‘’What are you going to do? Just take him to a court room and tell the judge you’re a better parent figure than he is? Niall, you can’t just go in-‘’
‘’Don’t worry babe, I can handle it myself.’’ Niall raises his eyebrows, indicating his authority.
Jana rolls her eyes, not in the mood for his attitude.
‘’Now, stop worrying your pretty little self and start on my dinner.’’ He winks jokingly as he pecks her lips.

Melanie jumps slightly at the door suddenly opening, but it was just Niall coming to check on her.
‘’Hey darlin’, you a’right?’’ He asks, sitting down in a chair beside her as she stares at the recording studio control panel, messing with the buttons, bored.
‘’Yeah.’’ She nods, shrugging lightly.
‘’So uh, me and Jana were thinking.. about something.’’ He says, sort of lying a tad, but not by much.
‘’What is it?’’ Mel asks, looking over at him.
He smiles lightly, rubbing the back of his neck out of nervousness, this was a hard thing to just ask a kid, really hard.
‘’We were thinking.. only if you wanted to though, that we become, or at least try to, become your uh, your legal guardians.’’ He tells her straightforward, trying not to stall any longer than he has to.
‘’Really?’’ Her eyes light up and she smiles happily, perking up her posture.
‘’Yeah. Would you like that?” He smiles, shocked at her sudden mood change.
‘’Yes! Ni, please. I would love to get away.. I just want to be happy.’’ She nods rapidly a few times before leaning over and hugging him tightly, wrapping her arms around his neck.
‘’Okay, okay, okay..’’ He laughs lightly, shocked that she wants it as much as they do.
‘’I wanna know what love really is.. what family really means.’’ She whispers into his ear, getting a little closer.
‘’I know baby, we can give that you to more than we already do.’’ He whispers back, kissing her cheek lightly.


It was the happiest day of her life, she couldn’t ask for me, and neither could he.
