The next day came faster than Tori had anticipated. Her head was pounding and her stomach was turning as she left the bathroom. She had no clue on earth what was wrong.
Perhaps she caught the cold that Talya had, or the stomach virus that Tiffany’s had for a few days now.
But yet, she had no clue at all, nor did Cody.
‘’How was the trip to the bathroom?’’ He asks as Tori sits down on the couch beside him, resting her head on his shoulder.
‘’Exhausting.. disgusting.. took my energy, horrible.’’ She mumbles a string of other emotions she felt, but they were all muffled by her movement as she snuggled a little closer Cody’s body.
‘’It’ll be okay, baby, you’ll get over it soon.’’ He assures her as he slides his arm around her waist, holding her against him closely.
‘’I hope so.. or else I’ll have to get Mom and Dad to keep the kids for the night. I don’t want to get them sick.’’ Tori says.
‘’Well I’m sure they’ll have no problems with that, besides your Dad might as well adopt them all since he claims he knows them better than I do.’’ Cody insists.
‘’Babe, he was just making a point.. that’s all.’’ Tori assures him, but as always, it doesn’t work at all on Cody, he knew Tori was just trying to make him feel better, and he was sick of it.
‘’Well it’s none of his god damn business what I do with my kids or my little sister.’’ Cody snaps suddenly, his mood swings were a horrible thing that Tori wish and prayed would go away, but she knows they won’t.
‘’He has the right to care, Cody.’’ Tori mumbles, rolling her eyes lightly.
‘’So now you’re on his fucking side? You’re just like your damn mother, you think every little damn thing your dad does is the exact and perfect in the entire fucking world, and I’m sick of it Tori. I’m sick of it.’’ Cody says, standing from the couch.
‘’You need to stop it, Cody, you’re overreacting.’’ Tori says with a sigh, standing up too.
‘’Don’t fucking tell me what to do.’’ He mumbles, sending her such of a horrible look that she felt the pain hit her hard, twice as hard as anything before.
“I’m-‘’
‘’You’re what? You’re sorry? I’ve heard it all, babe, nothing’s gonna work anymore, just as that other bitch I had. None of those damn excuses will work anymore.’’
‘’What the hell are you talking about?’’ Tori asks, furrowing her eyebrows tightly.
‘’Stop it, you’re both idiots for fighting all the time.’’ The voice came from across the room, shocking Tori at the words, but yet she had figured someone, one of them, would eventually say that.
‘’Damn it, Melanie, go to your room.’’ Cody says, frustrated and irritated.
‘’No. You’re my dad, or my mom. You can’t tell me what to do.’’ Mel replies, gulping lightly.
‘’Now.’’
‘’No.’’
‘’Cody, leave her alone.’’ Tori cuts in suddenly, knowing it was a bad idea.
‘’Shut the fuck up… before I.’’ He stops himself, quick and fast.
‘’Before you what? Hit her again? Slap her? Kick her? C’mon, do something.’’ Melanie speaks up, feeling the most courage and strength she’s ever been able to have in her entire life.
‘’Melanie, what the hell are do you think you’re talking about?’’ Cody laughs nervously, knowing exactly what she’s referring to.
‘’I’m not stupid, Cody,’’ Melanie says, ‘’I’ve seen you hit her. I’ve seen the marks.. and besides.. you do the same to me.. so what does it matter if I know or not?’’ She shrugs turning on her heel, beginning to leave the room.
Cody steps back, balling his fists up so tight that his knuckles turn white, pale.
‘’Cody, don’t.’’ Tori says, going to him and grabbing his hand with both of hers, undoing his fist and interlacing their fingers together, trying to convince him that this wasn’t the right solution.
‘’If she tells.. your.. parents.. you know.. what they’ll do.’’ Cody mumbles, his temper dropping like crazy now, feeling like himself again.
Tori often doubts it’s real, and believes the whole ‘real him’ thing is an act, but the heart wants what it wants, and she can’t get away from it.
