The Making Of Us

It’s summer time now, school has been out for a month now. In the fall Taylor and I will be high school freshman. Its so nerve racking to think about. Especially now since my mom has been diagnosed with stage 4 leukemia. I was spending the weekend at Taylor’s house when my mom called

“Oh, hi Ruth how are you did you find anything out from the doctor yet?” I heard Taylor’s mom say from the living room. I am assuming that my mom is telling Kim what is going on.

"Oh my! I’m sorry to hear that let me get the girls gathered up and we will head over that way now.”

I wasn’t for sure what was going on but I knew it wasn’t good news. We arrived at my house about 30 minutes later. I see my mom and brother come out of the house and we start talking in the front yard.

Mom says “well Dr. Boswell got the test results back from the bone marrow test they had done a few weeks ago and it came back that I have stage 4 leukemia.”

My heart sank, all kinds of emotions hit me all at one time mostly fear and anger. What was I going to do without my mom I thought the worst.

“Now when school starts you guys that’s when I am going to be admitted into the hospital to start the first round of chemo therapy. I’ve already spoken with your father and grandparents and for the time being, Cassie and Nate you will be staying with your grandparents. Then Kim will pick you up from school along with Taylor and bring you home.”
