Bad

Chapter 18

Beth's POV:

After I watch Harry get into his car from the window I go back up to the guest room I was staying in. Addie's parents had gone on some sort of exploration of some random country in the south, so we were here alone for a while.

I turned on the television and fell asleep.

Harry's POV:

I go back to school after I sit outside of Addie's for about 20 more minutes. I constantly think over the mistake of getting back together with Sky when I had such clear feelings for Beth. I keep telling myself that I did it to keep Beth safe, that she would be better without me, but I am not better without her.

I get to school by lunch and walk into the cafeteria to find the usual situation; Sky and Mandy at their own table with Louis trying to break out of his girlfriends grasp, Liam and Niall talking about how Liam may have found a new girl but being interrupted again by Niall whining about Addie, but Addie, she was sitting alone, on her phone, shooing away anyone that tried to sit with her.

I immediately made my way over to where she was sitting and sat down across from her at the table.

"Go away, Harry." She said, not looking up from her phone.

"No, please talk to me." I beg.

"Talk to you about what? My best friend? The one you broke? The girl you put in danger by literally marching into her perfectly set out life and stomping all over it?" She says and puts her phone down to glare at me.

"That's the one," I say. "Addie, you know I really care about Beth. You have known me longer than almost anyone here, you knew me before my bad times, does Beth know that?" She looks down.

Addie was my next-door neighbor before I started doing stupid shit, before I met Nate. We used to hang out every day until things got bad, she was my best friend and I was hers, well until Beth. She always was with Beth during school, a school where only girls attended, but Beth was never aloud to go over to Addie's because of the 'dangerous' neighborhood that we lived in, the neighborhood I helped make dangerous a while later. I liked the idea of the two of them being friends because Addie always said that the three of us would play together someday. Addie was my shoulder to cry on when my sister had gone away and things began to get worse for my family. She was always there for me, but unfortunately, about a month after my sister left, Addie and her family moved to a bigger house on the other side of town, leaving me alone. I didn't see her again until I came back to school when I was in secondary school, but then, things were different.

"No, she doesn't. I didn't think it was worth mentioning right now." She said. I always wanted Beth to know about me and Addie, I wanted her to know that someone like Addie could 'love' someone like me.

"Why haven't you told her before?" I asked.

"You only became part of her life a little while ago, Harry. You didn't matter to her before."

"I matter to her?" I say, hope in my eyes.

"Of course, dumbass. No matter what she says, you have made her care about you and despise you in such a short period of time that it is actually scaring her. And not to mention the death threats to her family. She is extremely angry about that, too."

"No shit." I say back to her, trying to give myself enough hope that someday soon, Beth and I can safely be together.
