Through the Dark

Chapter 31

I didn’t realize how exhausted I was till I wake up several hours later. Liam is sitting in the chair beside the bed. “Why didn’t you wake me?” I ask him.
He smiles. “I couldn’t bear to love, you looked so beautiful, so peaceful.”
I blush.
Liam laughs. “Are you blushing, Lex?” He moves over to the bed.
I feel myself turning more red. “Maybe a little. I’m not really used to compliments.”
Liam looks into my eyes, gently rubbing the back of his hand across my cheek. “Well, we will have to work on that won’t we, love?” He leans in for a kiss. Just when I think I know where this is headed. Liam jumps out of bed.
I look at Liam with a furrowed brow. “Hmm. I thought that was going to end differently.”
He laughs, then leans down to kiss me. “Oh it will later babe, but right now I have a surprise for you.”
We get ready and head downstairs. “Should we stop and talk to Agnes?” I ask Liam.
He grins. “No, I had a lovely visit with her while you were sleeping. I explained to her that I will be monopolizing your time for the next few days.”
Liam leads me through the garden to the entrance of the wisteria archway. He has a picnic all set up for us. We sit down on the blanket and eat. I had no idea how hungry I was. Thinking back, I can’t remember the last time I ate. Apparently Liam’s worked up an appetite as well.
When we’ve finished eating, Liam pulls a gift box out from behind the picnic basket. He hands it to me with a big, sweet grin.
I smile. “What’s this for?”
“Just open it.” Liam instructs me.
I open it and gasp. Inside is a beautiful leather bound notebook with exquisite paper inside. Along with the fanciest pen I have ever seen.
“Liam it’s amazing.”
He smiles and reaches over and takes my hand. “Lexi, this is for you to start your writing. I want you to know that I support your dream of writing a book. I want your dream to come true. You did tell me you prefer to write with paper and pen rather than a computer, correct?”
“Yes, I do. Liam, I think that this is the best present I’ve ever received. It means the world to me that you support my dream. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, Lex.” Liam pulls out his own leather bound notebook. “Now let’s get writing.” He winks.
I sit on the picnic blanket and start jotting down ideas for my book. Liam moves to a bench nearby. I look up occasionally and sometimes I catch him watching me. The look on his face, the love in his eyes, takes my breath away. Other times he is writing feverishly in his own notebook. Looking at Liam I decide without a shadow of a doubt what my book will be about.
