I took a deep breath and knocked on my family's front door. There was a long pause before Natalie burst through the door. She wiped tears from her eyes, but she couldn't mask her wet, tear stained cheeks.

She threw herself into my arms and began to sob "Oh, Natalie, Baby.." This was getting me scared....it has to be bad to make a strong girl like Natalie cry.

"Talk some sense into her, P-please Vinnie!" Natalie yelped.

"Alright Nat, let me go figure out what's going on, okay?" I rubbed her back and pulled away.


"It's awful Vinnie! Just awful!" She called back to me and collapsed on the porch crying. I took one last look, a deep breath, and stepped inside the house. I followed the sound of muffled sobs coming from a male voice.

"Paul?" I walked into my brothers room where I found my stepdad, Paul, and Liam gathered around my Mom's bed. "Liam?" everyone turned to look at me, clearing a path to my mom. "Oh..god...no..Mommy?" I whimpered.

"Vinnie.." My mom's voice was tired, exhausted.

"What's wrong, mom?" I began to cry and grabbed her hand, It was limp. At parts of her head, hair had fallen out and she looked about 10 years older then she had last time I saw her. She had a sort o sad, weak, stubborn look in her old tired eyes that told me to expect nothing good. But, it was looks on Liam and Paul's face that really terrified me.

Liam stood up from his chair and pulled my into a tight embrace. My stepdad resumed his crying and buried his ace in his hands. "What is it?" I cried out, getting a bit mad.

"Hunny, I have a small case of breast cancer." My mother blurted out.

"WHAT?" I fell to the ground right away and cried hysterically.

"It's not a small case! She could...she could...die." My stepdad sobbed.

"Please talk some sense into your mom, Vinnie." Liam lifted me off the ground and hugged me tight again. "She refuses to go to the hospital, and this is serious."

"I don't need some stupid place like that, this will all blow over, you'll see," Mom shrugged.

"No, mom, this is serious! Please go to the hospital..for me." I whimpered.

Louis and Niall burst into the room. "We heard what happened." Niall gasped for breath and gave me a soft squeeze of a hug and a kiss on the forehead.

"Maybe..maybe this will get better.." I shook my head, ignoring Louis' heavy stare. I stepped out of the room to clear my head, feeling every pair of eyes on me. I passed Natalie on my way down the stairs and sat down on our back deck. It was only seconds after I sat, that I heard footsteps behind me.

"Vinnie?" Louis sat down next to me.

I blinked in responce then redirected my eyes to the wooden planks that heald up the deck.

"Listen I know...this is a lot to take in//why don't you just go home and try to forget about all this for a bit?"

I furrowed my eyebrows and hesitantly hugged Louis. "I think i'd like that."

"And...I'm sorry about all that yesterday." Louis gave me a sideways smile.

"Me too." I said peering up at him.

"Friends?"

"Friends."? I choked out wanting much...much... more.

But that's not all I want I want this all to end. All of it.

Because If life goes on like this I don't know if living or dying is the better deal.
