A Tale Of Two Spies

Familiar Faces.

*Carter's POV*

Another day, another mission, another hot shot criminal facing the electric chair sentence because of me.

Agent Carter Wingfield.

I waltzed down the long, glass hallways of the Central Intelligence Agency- or CIA, as some call it- like a boss. Black blazer slung lazily over my shoulder as my heels made sharp clicks on the smooth tile floor.

Most people only stared at me for a quick second as I passed, returning back to their level 7 cases while I scanned my badge to the higher access floors.

The elevator doors opened and I stepped out into the bright lights of floor 20. Second position to the highest agent ranking available. A title I had fought to earn. Literally.

Diana, the small Secretary of floor 20, caught my arm, and pointed her manicured finger in the direction of the board rooms.

"Boss wants to meet with you Ms. Wingfield." I gave her a warm smile, before dropping my things off in the small cubicle called my "office", before returning in the direction of the board rooms. After another badge scanning and a trip through the metal detector I stepped through the tinted glass windows of the meeting place.

Ron Mayes, CIA director, stood at the long window overlooking the courtyard and turned at the sound of the door sliding open.

"Ahhh! Agent Carter. Please have a seat." He gestured to the sturdy, oak chair in front of his desk and I slid into it with a cool confidence acquired from years of heavy interrogations.

"How's your day been-"

"Diana said you needed me?" Beating around the bush wasn't my style. I was always straight and to the point. Ron let out a chuckle, letting a soft whistle out through his lips. .

"Never one to stall, are you Agent Carter?"

"No sir." I smiled back. He pressed a button on the control pad on his desk, and the soundproof panels slid down the windows, shielding our conversation from prying ears.

"Top secret mission, level 21. So classified I had to force it out an executive board members mouth...an executive board member of the white house." He stated. I let out a sharp breath, clutching the arm chair for support. My cool facade suddenly shattered at the words "level 21".

"I'm interested."

"Good," he nodded, taking a slow sip of his coffee, "someone in the white house is forging the President's signature. Lying and saying that he is involved with an underground money printing ring."

My mouth began to water at the mere thought of investing myself in this case. I anxiously ticked my fingers on his desk, leaning forward in my seat ever so slightly.

"I'm still listening..."

"We were asked to send our best agent in to discover where the money ring's base station is, and who the real leader is behind this operation. They need the case solved in three months, before they ship out the new bills."

I sat back in my chair, running my teeth around my lip in sheer anticipation.

"Easy as pie! Three months max is great for me."

"But there's a catch."

My heart rate dropped significantly as I tried to imagine the strings attached to this job.

"You'll have to work with a partner."

I shrugged and stifled my laugh. A partner? That would only make my job that much easier.

"That's just the icing on the cake! When do I start?"

"Hold on now Carter. This isn't just your average partner. He's from the Capitol. One of their top agents. I met him the other day. An over confident asshole who says he only works alone."

I internally groaned. He fit the description of someone who's acquaintance I did not want to make. My theory was proved to be true when I heard the door fly open and hit the wall. I didn't even bother to turn around in my seat, my stomach growing more upset by the second.

"Hey new boss man. Am I late? And who might this be?"

I turned in my seat slowly, my heart stopping when I found myself staring into two familiar hazel eyes.

"Zayn Malik...it's been a long time."
