You Are My Best Friend

As the plane took off, I looked down at the city we were slowly leaving behind. I marveled at how small everything became, and while I had my face pressed up against the window, I heard Harry’s deep chuckle.

“You’re just like a little kid, you know? Haven’t you flown before?”, he joked.

I turned to face him, raising one eyebrow at his comment

“Um, of course I’ve been on a plane before...I have been on tour with you guys for two months!!! This is just the first time I haven’t been dead tired. I can finally appreciate how pretty this view is! Come look at it, if you don’t believe me”, I replied.

I smiled, and beckoned him to the window. It really was gorgeous. We were passing over Lake Michigan, and the clear blue water and the waterfront buildings made for amazing scenery. Harry and I sat and watched for a while. Then, he stretched and got up.

“Well, I think I’m going to sit down now, instead of being crouched down by a window. Not exactly the most comfortable of places”, he smiled.

Before he got too comfortable and fell asleep - the poor guys were always so tired - I needed him to answer what I’d asked in the airport lounge.

“Harry, before you get some shut-eye, do you mind answering what I asked you back at the airport? What are we, exactly?”, I asked.

Harry took a minute to respond, deep in thought with eyebrows furrowed.

Then he opened his mouth to speak.

“Well, Skyler, as of right now, I would say that we are really good friends, who happen to like each other. Further than that, I guess it’s up for debate. I mean, we could stay really good friends...or we could be more?”, he ended as a question, his face reddening the tiniest bit.

I smiled as I pondered that.

“Well, we are obviously going to spend time together in Rhode Island...so I guess we will get to know each other away from the rest of the guys and the crew...how about we talk again before we head our separate ways? I mean, between trying to stay out of Taylor’s way -especially you, Harry- and just doing random stuff, the week will be pretty busy”, I paused, then remembered one last detail,

“What will I tell Gram? I love her to pieces, but she is such a gossip. I can’t really trust that she wouldn’t accidentally let anything slip”.

Harry responded in his slow, accented voice, “We’ll just tell her that we are friends. And that I wanted to see how she was doing. Which I actually do, so it won’t be lying at all. Think of it as not telling her everything for...security reasons. Does that work, ya think?”.

I nodded. We had a plan. Even though I had said earlier I wasn’t tired at all, I felt myself beginning to nod off.

Harry, noticing this, told me,

“You could rest your head on my shoulder, if you’d like, Skyler”.

I murmured a,

“Thank you”,

And within minutes was fast asleep.

When I woke up what I assumed was a few hours later, I noticed Harry was out like a light. Careful not to disturb him since he looked so at peace (and very very cute, like a little kid), I got up and stretched my cramped muscles. Yawning, I looked out the window again, and saw that we were over familiar country. I could see the large estates and rocky beaches which meant we were getting close to Gram’s house.

A few minutes later, the stewardess came around one last time with drinks, and then the pilot announced that we’d be landing and to put on our seatbelts. I gently woke Harry and we buckled up, *hopefully* ready for what was ahead.

Sorry it took so long to update, but a girl's (or guy i guess) has got to have spring break too, ya know!

Anyway, I'm back! Look for this story to be finished in time for May/June
