What Goes Around Comes Back Around

Dangerous situation

Luke and I had gone up to the roof of the hotel. I don’t think we are allowed up here, but the view was sure spectacular. We both had brought our guitars, I had brought my notebook and Luke brought some loose papers. Good for him, because he was not going to write in my notebook…again…like ever.

‘what motivates you to write?’ I asked looking at Luke, who was staring out in the distance.

‘situations’ he replied, nice one Luke for adding some mystery

‘personal situations?’

‘yeah and other stuff as well’

‘what other stuff?’

‘let’s just go over what you have in that little notebook of yours…now shall we?’

‘whatever Luke’ I huffed and opened up my notebook, did I want these songs out there? Not really, they were more like a personal diary to me than lyrics. I bit my lip nervously; I scanned every page with my eyes, which ones could I show Luke?

‘nothing good enough?’ Luke smirked, playing his guitar out of boredom. The melody seemed fitting for a piece of lyrics I wrote ages ago.

‘When we both fall asleep, underneath the same sky. To the beat of our hearts, at the same time. So close but so far away. Can you hear me?’ I sang and looked up at Luke who just kept playing the chords and smiled at me. For a few beats it was silent, just guitar strings strumming a harmonized melody.

‘I’m trying to find the words to say. I wish, I was, I wish I was…Beside you’ Luke sang and I smiled, this worked perfect and I started to see a whole different side to Luke.

Well not really new, but his motivated and determined side. He was taking this seriously, but was it all fake? No Wills you hate him remember, don’t become a sucker for his musical mastermind again. He’ll break your heart…again. Luke cleared his throat and I snapped out of my thoughts, he was staring at me.

‘what were you thinking about?’ he asked

‘nothing’ I lied

‘you so were, but I’ll let it slide’ Luke shrugged

‘I have this melody and it has been stuck in my head for days, I just can’t seem to find right words to them’ I said, picking up my guitar

‘we aren’t even done with this song yet’ Luke protested

‘welcome to the way I work’ I winked at him. Such a face palm moment right there, though I had to keep up the act now.

‘so you are into me now?’ Luke snorted with laughter

‘you sound like a little piglet’ I laughed and we laughed even harder, making it hard to catch out breaths.

‘play the tune’ Luke said through his laughter and I nodded, replacing my guitar in the right position. Like on cue he started throwing in words and phrases, his ideas kept on flowing while he was writing down stuff. he suddenly stopped writing and looked at his papers intently and he started singing.

‘You call me up,
It's like a broken record
Saying that your heart hurts
That you never get over him getting over you,
And you end up crying
And I end up lying,
'Cause I'm just a sucker for anything that you do’

I smiled at the words Luke was singing, this wasn’t about Kara and it was obvious. Here he was sitting across from me, singing about no other but me. I felt my phone buzz and stopped playing to grab out my phone. “John”…who else could it have been.

‘John what up?’ I answered putting him on speaker

‘I swear if you ran off again you are being sacked’

‘no she didn’t run off, we are on a roll, so why are you bothering us?’ Luke jumped in

‘where are you two?’ John asked

‘up on the roof’ I replied

‘I’m coming up, to see how you two are doing’ John said and without even saying bye he had hung up.

Luke and I continued what we were doing and let John watch. It felt a bit weird at first, but I zoned out into my happy music place. It had been hours after we had started, finishing up three songs and we started on a fourth. Though we still had time tomorrow, Luke and I promised to get up early and meet up on the roof to finish it.

I was heading towards my hotel room, twirling around happily. A happy tune came to mind and the words came out like I had already written the full song myself. I skipped a few steps and twirled around again, humming the beat.

‘Late night watching television
But how did we get in this position?
It’s way too soon, I know this isn’t love
But I need to tell you something’

I opened up the door and stumbled in, still humming the tune. Still smiling widely after the successful writing session.

‘I really really really really really really like you
And I want you, do you want me, do you want me, too?
I really really really really really really like you
And I want you, do you want me, do you want me, too?’

I skipped into my room, putting my guitar in its case and dropped my notebook on my bed. I twirled around the room happily, this was a dangerous situation I was putting myself in…I was falling for Luke all over again.
