She walked up to Darla's Dress Botique, the biggest dress store in town, and admired the glowing prom dresses in the windows. As she stepped to the doors, Nate came running torwards her.

"Monica, I'm so sorry I'm late. I hope you're not mad"

Monica thought he was cute for caring about the time.

"Hey don't worry, I just pulled up too. Let's go inside, shall we?"

She he gave him a reassuring smile and they headed into the store. Monica instantly walked over to the "Edgy" section of the store. Mate tried to keep up with her as she weaves through girls and their moms. The store was packed due to prom season. Nate almost felt intimidated. He watched store clerks use the long hooks to reach for high dresses. He felt like Sir Lancelot at the obstacle course. He ducked hangers and jumped over fallen dresses until he reached Monica.

"This one"

She held up a dress to show Nate. He could tell she loved it from her glowing eyes. It made him happy to see her so bright.

"Well, let's try it on girl. Gotta make sure it fits right huh?"

She nodded and he held his hand out to guide her. As she held on to his hand, she clutched the dress and squealed. She was in her happy place now. They reached the dressing rooms and man took the dress from Monica's hands.

"Let's get you a room honey. Ooohhhhh I love maroon!"

Monica hinted the gay in his voice and followed him to a room. He left her and she locked the door. Nate also followed him and sat on a blue velvet chair near her. He was excited to see her. She got into the dress after a few minutes of trying to slide it over her boobs. It fit perfectly!

"Hey Moni, you got it alright?"

He held onto the top of the door. Monica looked up then looked back into the mirror without answering. He let go and stood in front of the door. She finally opened it and let him inside, shutting it right after.

"wow....Monica, it looks...beautiful on you"

he he admired the dress up, down, and back up only to meet her eyes. He smiled slightly and she blushed putting her head down. She grabbed the hem with her fingers and twirled the dress around. Nate came closer to her. He grabbed on of her hands softly and gradually built courage. She looked up at him and noticed her eyes met the bridge of his nose. They were incredibly close. He bent down as she stood on her toes. Monica felt his warm breath on her lips. Butterflies built up in her stomach. Nate closed his eyes and gently kissed her.

They opened their eyes again and Monica brushed herself off. Nate cleared his throat and left the dressing room. He felt a million feelings. He had done something that he'd wished to do for a year. After a few minutes, Monica came out with the dress and they walked to the counter.

"So is this the only you really want? It's the only one you've tried."

Monica happily nodded and placed the dress neatly on the counter. The cashier rung it up and took it to cover it with plastic. The monitor showed three hundred and twenty dollars. Monica began to open her purse when Nate stopped her.

"I got Moni."

She was more than happy to let him pay and moved out of the way for him. The lady came back and was handed his debit card. After it was payed for, they left.

"Nate, thank you so much for today. I'm so grateful to have you as a friend"

She smiled at him. Nate's heart dropped. Had he just been friend zoned? He gamely smiled back and helped her into her car. After their goodbyes, she drove off and he was left thinking about the kiss.
