Let's Go Home

Dinner was amazing, and the company was even better. I had such a hard time thinking about anything but the fact that Allie was there, with me, and that she was all mine. Watching her interact with one of my fans, the first one she had really come in contact with, was possibly the greatest thing since meeting her. I had been petrified of her running away the first time something like that happened. It was obvious in her eyes that she was shocked that someone knows who she was all because she was dating me, thank you press release. But, I knew that she didn’t mind it. The little girl had been kind and cordial and had shown her a good fan, not one of the crazy and super obsessed ones. Allie had also dealt nicely when the hostess, who had seemed to have been a bit overly fond of me, tried to get a bit too close…

Allie and me had received our food about fifteen minutes ago. She was sucking down some lemonade while I was drinking a beer and we both had traditional British food in a whole new vision thanks to the gastro pub.
“This is so good, Liam. I was always told that British food was tasteless and not very good, but this…” Allie was eating some of the homemade pickles. It was probably her third or fourth.
“I told you it was going to be good. Worth the drive, right?” I asked.
“It was most defiantly worth the drive.” She replied happily.
Before I could ask her if she would want any dissert, the hostess came back to our table.
“How are we liking everything?” She asked with her hand on my chair.
“Um…” I began.
“It is great thanks, isn’t it love?” Allie stated as she reached across the table and grabbed my hand.
I gave her hand a reassuring squeeze that was also quite obvious for the hostess to get the hint. “Could you tell me where the bathroom is?” She then asked.
I am sure I looked a bit confused, but she did not let on at all. “Of course, just over there.” The hostess said pointing her off in some direction.
“Thank you.” Allie said coldly as she stood up, but instead of walking to the bathroom, she walked over to my side of the table, pulled my head back, and planted a big kiss on my lips. Not one that is just for show, but she was passionate about this kiss, making it known to both me and the hostess that I was hers, and that at the end of the night, nothing was going to change that.
Allie sauntered off, I am sure it was more of a show for the hostess, but I wanted it to be for me so badly.
“She seems, um…. Nice.” The hostess said before she nearly ran away from the table. Clearly she received the hint.

“My lady.” I said as I ushered Allie into the car. By that time the paparazzi had found us at dinner. I am sure it was the hostess who tipped them off. Allie was a bit freaked out, but I told her to keep her head down and walk fast. Her hand never left mine until I knew she was safely seated in the car and I could shut the door. “Really guys?” I asked no one in particular as I made my way over to the driver side.
“Is that Allie? Man, Liam, you can do so much better than that. She is fat.” One of the paparazzi yelled at me.
I really hoped Allie had not heard that. “Just because she is healthy is no reason to not like her.” I spat back, holding back as much as I could. I really did not want any bad press just before our tour was about to kick off. I held my tongue, not trusting myself to say anything. Instead, I simply just got in the car and started the engine.
Allie was sitting in the passenger seat, her face hidden in her hands. Ever so lightly, I touched her leg, “Just hang on.” I said, not sure who I was really reassuring.
It took me a few moments to maneuver out of the parking space and away from the paparazzi, but I was able to do it all calmly all because Allie was there. All I was thinking about was making sure she was safe and happy. Once I had made my way onto one of the main thoroughfares, I took a moment to calm myself. My deep breath was made more calming as the smell of Allie’s perfume (Prada Candy) collided with my senses.
I turned to her, “Are you ok?” I asked.
She laughed. “I can not believe you are asking me if I am ok. You are the one who was almost trampled by a heard of rabid men trying to get the best picture.” She said.
“Seriously, you are worried about me when I have been dealing with this for five years.” I said, trying to process what Allie was really thinking.
“You are right, but I can’t help worrying. That is all I do. Worry about you.” She did worry about me, just like I worried about her.
“you know what, lets not worry about this now. Where would you like to go?” I asked, not really wanting to have to talk about work or all the baggage that has come along with the popularity that I have gained over the past years.
“Home.” She said.
“Your place it is.” I replied, a bit sad she was ready for the night to be over.
“You misunderstand me, Liam. I want to go home. And home is not my apartment. Do you know the song Guiding Light by Foy Vance?” she asked.
“No, why?”
“Let me sing it for you. Maybe then you will understand, hun.” She said.
I had not heard her sing until then, but when she opened up and sang she had a slightly raspy voice, with only propelled the sound of the song. Clearly it was written as a folk song, and Allie kept it as a folk song.

Well the road is wide.
The waters ride on either side.
My shadow in the fading light
That’s stretching out towards the night.
Cause the sun is low
And I yet have so far to go
My lonely heart is beating so
Tired all the wander
But there is a sign ahead
Though I think it’s the same one again
And I’m thinking about my only friend
So I find my way home.
When I need to get home
You’re my guiding light
You’re my guiding light.
When I need to get home,
You’re my guiding light
You’re my guiding light.

Well the air is cold.
And yonder lays my sleeping soul
By the branches broke like bones.
This weekend tree no longer holds.
Oh well the night is still
And I have not yet lost my will
And I will keep on moving till.
Until I find my way home.
When I need to get home
You’re my guiding light
You’re my guiding light.
So when I need to get home
You’re my guiding light
You’re my guiding light.
When I need to get home
You’re my guiding light
You’re my guiding light.
“Do you see now?” she asked.
“Lets go home.” I replied, understanding that she felt the same way for me as I felt for her. “Why didn’t you tell me you could sing?” I asked.
“You never asked. But I am too shy to sing in front of most people. I am rather surprised in myself that I just sang that in front of you.” Allie said.
“Sing for me again?” I wanted, with every fiber of my being to hear her sing again. It could have been Happy Birthday at that point and I would have been happy.
“Ask me again some other time.” I knew in her tone that I should not push her on this.
“Alright, lets just go home.” She smiled and nodded in agreement.
Like our drive to the restaurant, we were silent. Occasionally, one of us would touch the other. Neither of us able to sit so close together without physical contact, and neither of us wanting to sit with out touching.
I was thankful for the private elevator that I had access to from the car park under the apartment. Being able to walk hand in hand with my girlfriend from the car was a beautiful thing, even if it was in an underground, secluded, concrete structure.
“Thank you for dinner. You were right, I did love it. It was delicious.” Allie said once the elevator doors closed, locking us in.
Looking into her eyes, I replied slowly, “Allie, my dear, I would be more then willing to take you wherever you want. For dinner, for the week, heck, forever.”
“Lord help me, but I am falling in love with you Liam Payne.” She said.
My breath became caught in my chest, my heart pounding, filling my head with a rushing sound. The smile plastered across my face was painted across from ear to ear. “Allie, I am pretty sure I have been in love with you since you spilt that coffee all over the two of us.” I said. “I love you.” I did not wait for any reply, because what more could I want then her telling me she was falling in love with me.
The elevator dinged, signaling our stop, but I could not bring myself to let go of Allie. I back upped slowly, all the while glued to Allie like it was a matter of life and death. I fumbled with my keys and somehow managed to open the door into my home. Into OUR home. She pulled back from me, much to my distain, and looked me strait in the eye. “I love you, Liam.” She said before I shut the door behind us.
