Collision Course

Stay Please!

Twenty minutes of socializing and a few minutes watching the boys, as I now too referred to them, at their rehearsal were well spent. Not a second of my time felt wasted since I was amused and perfectly content being around my new found friends. Liam left my side as little as possibly, most of the time with my hand tucked safely into his own. When he did move away, he always squeezed my hand reassuringly or kissed my temple, almost as if he were regretting leaving but to promise he would return.
However, unfortunately is it may be, I could not waste any more time, and I had to leave for work. I waited for a brief pause before butting in. “Hektor, can I steal Liam for a moment?” I asked.
“Alright, take three, but don’t go far. I see you Niall, no, you can’t have a snack yet. We don’t want you to get cramps.” He said, quickly walking off to play mommy for a moment.
“Leaving so soon?” He purred into my ear while his hand easily twisted around my back.
“Duty calls.” I said as he brushed my hair behind my ear.
“If you have to, I suppose you can go.” He said, playing me with his puppy eyes.
“Oh don’t you even. Those puppy eyes won’t work with me.” I playfully slapped away his hand from me. “But we can figure something out for, say, later tonight?”
“You still have the key. Let your self in. There are take out menus on the fridge. Order yourself anything, and get me something you think I will like. I should be home around…” He paused, turned around and yelled. “Hektor, can we get out of here by seven?”
“Make it seven thirty and you have a deal.” Hektor shot back from the other side of the room.
Looking back at me, he said, “I’ll be back by eight, and I will be famished. Tired, but famished.”
“Can’t wait.” I said before kissing him. Snaking my hand around his neck, I pulled him closer to me. He moaned and pulled me close as well. A few catcalls pulled us apart to find Louis and Harry cheering us on.
“Mind your own business.” Liam grumbled.
“See you Hun.” I said, taking my chance to slip away from him.
Just as I reached the door out of the rehearsal space, a hand grabbed my shoulder. “Can we talk, Allie?”
Turing around, I found myself face to face, or should I say face to chest, with Zayn. “Zayn?” I half asked, half demanded. “Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, can we talk for a minute? Outside?” He asked but with out waiting for a reply, led me into the hallway. Turning to face me, he looked me in the eye, which he had not done up until that point, and began to talk. “I can see how much Liam likes you in the way he acts around you and the way he looks at you. I have never seen him quite like this, and being his best friend, frankly, it scares me a bit. I just need you to promise me something. I need you to promise me that you are not going to break his heart, and if you are that you do it now rather then let this whole tirade keep going.”
Shocked but also understanding of where he was coming from, I quickly calculated my words before speaking. “Zayn, I know that Liam means a lot to you and that you want to protect him, but he is a grown man capable of figuring out his own life. However, if it makes you feel better, I promise not to break his heart. Only problem is that I am terrified that he is going to break mine.” Quickly, I gave Zayn a peck on the cheek and walked away, hoping I was going to right direction to leave this maze of a building. I was petrified of Zayn. He seemed the person who could do serious harm, but at the same time, someone who would not hurt a fly. I wanted to be on his good side, and honestly, I was terrified of being the one who got hurt out of our relationship. As I saw it, Liam held all the power.

Allie had left with Zayn and he had returned just a few minutes later. Curious, I went up to Zayn and quickly asked what that had been about, but since Hektor was commanding us back to the stage, the only response I mustered out of him was “It’s nothing.” I was going to have to probe him for more info later.
Rehearsals, once again, were brutal. Although the boys and me had never been truly serious people, Hektor did a damn good job in keeping us in line. By the end of the morning: my legs felt like jello, my stomach was grumbling, and I was thinking only about Allie and what Zayn might have said to her.
“Oy, earth to Liam, Hektor said time for lunch. Now are you going to move, or do we have to carry you?” Niall asked as he poked me like a little kid in the ribs.
“Ooww, that hurts.” I said, in a mock child’s voice.
We were all well fed at lunch and the conversation mainly consisted of Allie.
“I liked Allie, she has something about her.” Harry said as he ate his sandwich with a fork and knife like the weirdo he is.
“What, like the fact that she is nice, smart and funny?” Louis said genuinely liking her for the reasons she listed but also mocking Harry since he never meant anything like that.
“Nah, he likes her since she is American.” Niall said.
“That might be it. I’m not sure. She just seemed so down to earth. Anyone else notice that she didn’t take shit from any of us?” Harry asked.
“The real reason you like her, is because she shot down your advances faster then a London commuter pushes someone out of the way.” Zayn added. “You are impressed that she didn’t even bat an eyelash your way and that she can deal with your shit.”
“Well, Zayn, where did you come from? That is the first word I have heard you utter since she left.” Louis stated with a mouth full of food
“I was just mulling everything over.” Zayn replied in his normal dark and brooding way.
“Mulling, more like percolating.” Louis continued. “Everything that you ever think of you over think. You need to relax for once. Take a deep breath. She is not trying to break up the band, she is no Yoko.”
“Speaking of, what did you say to her?” I asked, finally finding my moment to ask.
“Oh you know, the normal. That she better not be a murderer, that I hope she doesn’t snore and that she better not break your heart.” Zayn replied nonchalantly.
“So basically you scared her off?” I asked.
“No… surprisingly not. She stood her ground. She was quite strait forward.” His pensive look fell over his face and for a moment there was silence at our table. We all knew that he was going to say something either really important or extremely profound. “I approve of her.” He finally said.
“Thanks, Zayn. That means a lot to me.” I said, clapping him on the shoulder by reaching across Harry.
“She is a good girl, I think she is a keeper.” Zayn said, and with that, the subject left such serious matters and turned to lighter topics.
Rehearsals ended a few minutes early and I found myself on the elevator up to my house twenty minutes to eight. I silently wondered if Allie was at the house, if she had ordered food. I sincerely hoped she had since my stomach was playing me the song of it’s people. The ding sounded and the doors opened to the elevator and quickly I opened the door into the house. Silence. No dog greeting me, no Allie greeting me, just silence with all the lights on.
“This is something out of a horror movie.” I quietly mumbled to myself as I slowly began to walk down the hall.
Somewhere along the way, I took my shoes off and placed them next to Allies rather ugly brown flats. Well, at least I knew she was here somewhere. Entering the living room, I saw a tail sticking over the couch, slowly wagging. Peering over the couch, I found the big round eyes of Loki staring at me, his tail wagging more profusely but making no sound. He was curled up on the stomach of a peacefully sleeping Allie. Her hair cascaded majestically across the pillow, one arm on Loki and the other hanging carelessly over the side of the couch. Her chest was gently rising and falling with every breath and her mouth was slightly upturned in a peaceful smile. I didn’t want to wake her, but I knew I should since she would not sleep if she continued her late nap.
Gently, I sat down next to the couch on the white plush rug, crossed my arms before resting them and my chin on the couch. “Allie.” I softly murmured. Nothing. Not so much as a fuss. “Allie.” I said again, no louder or softer then before. Again, nothing. “Love, it is time to wake up.” I said this time, just as softly. Finally, she began to stir.
She took a breath deeper then her even sleeping breath, her toes curled in a sad attempt at a stretch and finally, her eyes began to open. No sooner had her eyes spied me than there was a sizeable smile plastered across her face. “Liam.”
I couldn’t help myself. I leaned in and kissed her. She smelled of my shampoo, which was such a turn on. “Hi Hun.” I said.
Loki jumped off of her and into my lap, lapping at my hand, begging for affection. Allie slowly sat up, stretching out her muscles.
“What time is it?” She asked.
“Just before eight.” I mumbled.
“Stop mumbling, Liam. It does nothing for you, Hun, even if it is cute.” She smiled. “Dinner should be here shortly.”
“Thank goodness. What are we having?” I asked as I pushed myself off the floor, into the couch with her.
“Indian, my favorite.” She said.
“Really, Indian is your favorite?” I asked a little surprised.
“I might be from a small town in the middle of nowhere America, but that does not mean that my life was deprived. We actually had a great little Indian restaurant, so all the traditional Indian food here helps me feel closer to home.” She replied.
“Good think I love Indian.” I replied, helping her set the table but being cut short with the buzzer from the front desk.
“Use the card, Alex, then bring up the food would you?” I said, using the intercom down to the concierge desk.
“Right away.”

Dinner was delicious and even though I was tired, I thoroughly enjoyed Allie’s company. We talked about her day, about her first experience with being careful with her every move. According to her, she felt like every one was judging and staring at her. If she only knew what was going to happen in the coming months.
She helped me clean the kitchen before she kissed me and said the words I had been dreading all evening. “I should go.”
I gently grabbed her wrist and turned her back to me. She looked into my eyes and I said gently, “Stay, please.”
