Change Me
Chapter 8
The next day, Harry had one thing on his mind: Chase.
He couldn’t get over the fact that he stood up Elena, how could he do that to her? Elena never did anything wrong to anyone, so why would he do that to her? Harry pushed through the classroom doors to where Chase was sat with his friends.
“You fucking prick.” Harry growled, walking over to him. His friends immediately stood up, coming to Chase’s aid.
“What’s wrong now?” Chase smirks, standing up and pushing past his friends. Harry chuckles darkly.
“What’s wrong? How about the fact that you left your girlfriend alone in a library for over 3 hours.” He spits and Chase flinches. Chase’s expression softens and his mouth opens but no words come out.
“I-I completely forgot, I don’t deserve her.” He whispers, his voice stuttering. Harry just shakes his head and smirks.
“You don’t deserve shit.” He mutters, his voice laced with venom. Before Chase has time to reply, Harry is already walking to his class, the teacher not saying anything.

Elena had spent all day looking for Harry. She couldn’t believe that Harry would threaten Chase, telling him not to come to the library, and then wait for her when she got out. Well, that’s what Chase had said happened.
Walking down the hall, she spotted the familiar mop of curls.
“Harry!” She called and he immediately turned around. His eyes met hers and he smiled.
“Hey.” He grinned, walking over to her.
“What is your problem?” Elena asks, glaring up at the curly-haired boy in front of her.
“What are you talking about, Elena?” Harry asks, confused by her actions.
“You told Chase to blow me off. You threatened him, then waited for me outside as if to make out that you were the good guy in all of this.” She spat. By now they were the only 2 left in the corridor.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” He growls. “I was outside anyway; I sure as hell wasn’t waiting for you. Like I’d waste my time threatening Chase to stay away from you, he can do whatever the fuck he wants. The only time I’ve spoken to Chase in the past few weeks is this morning because I was talking to him about blowing you off.”
“Yeah right, Harry. You seriously expect me to believe you?” She laughs coldly.
“No, and I really couldn’t give a shit if you believe me or not. I know I’m right and when you find out that your prick of a boyfriend has set me up, you can apologize.” He spits and Elena backs up.
“Like hell I’m apologizing to you.”
“Okay, don’t.” Harry shrugs. “But when you realise that you were wrong, don’t come crawling back to me.” He calls, walking away.
Harry was furious with how Elena had acted. How could she possibly believe he had done that? Harry had to get his mind of things, to do that he would usually hook-up with someone and that’s exactly what he planned to do.

Elena was sat with Chase in his dorm room; they were talking about life after college and what their plans were. All Elena could think about is what Harry said about Chase setting him up.
“Chase?” Elena interrupts him whilst he was babbling on about different uni’s.
“Yeah?” He asks, a little offended that Elena had interrupted him.
“What you said about Harry, was it true? Did he really threaten you?” She asks, unsure about whether her boyfriend was telling the truth or not.
“Yeah, he did.” Chase shuffles in his seat before his eyes once again lock to Elena’s. “I’m sorry about blowing you off yesterday.” He says, and Elena looks at him with a sympathetic expression.
“He threatened you, what were you supposed to do?” She chuckles and he shoots her a small smile. Chase pulls her in to his chest, resting his head on hers.
“I love you, El.” He mumbles into her hair.
“Love you too.” She murmurs. “It’s getting late, I should go.” She sighs, pecking him on the lips. He walks over to the door with her and opens it.
“See you tomorrow.” He grins.
“Bye.” She smiles pecking him on the lips. They were interrupted by a door slamming shut and a petite brown haired girl creeping out of it. “Ella?” Elena calls and the girl turns around.
“Oh, hey Elena.” She smiles sheepishly.
“What are you doing?” Elena asks, Chase’s arm wrapped firmly around her.
“Nothing, I’m tired. Goodnight.” She says quickly before scurrying down the hallway.
“Who’s dorm is that?” Elena asks, turning to Chase. She knew fully well who’s dorm it was, she just needed confirmation for another person.
“Harry’s.” Chase spits, his arm tensing around Elena. “Goodnight.” He says, kissing her on the forehead before making his way back inside.
As Elena walked past the door and out of the building towards her dorm, she could only imagine what Harry and Ella were up to. The ‘sex hair’ that Ella was working when she came out of Harry’s dorm was un-mistakable. Her clothes were messily done up and some of her make-up was half way down her face.
Harry was a nice guy. He could be a dick sometimes but Elena often found herself enjoying his company. He didn’t respect himself enough to commit to someone, to wake-up next to the same face each day, that’s why he messed around with girls. It gave him a sense of power, that he could control these young girls; make them do whatever he pleased. He would have them begging for him and he loved it.
Harry lay in bed thinking about everything. He had his music on low, the album: coexist by the xx soothed his thoughts. His dad got him into this sort of music. They would lay awake for hours listening to each melodic tune, soaking in the lyrics and feeling the bass lines ripple through each cell of their bodies. That’s what people say is call getting lost in the music. When you feel like you’re a part of each note, of each chord, and that’s what Harry felt like. That was until his father left with no warning. One day Harry got home and he wasn’t there. His mum was sat on the couch, crying to herself, all of his father’s belongings had gone, he had vanished without a trace.
Harry’s dad had always told him he loved him, but if you loved someone, why would you hurt them? Why would you rip everything they know from underneath them? Why make them feel like nothing and make others feel just as bad, if not worse? Harry’s dad had always told his mother that he loved her, but he left. He took everything with him, including part of Harry. Harry couldn’t believe that he could put so much faith and trust in someone and have them abandon him. That’s why he didn’t get attached to anyone. That’s why he didn’t let his guard down. He couldn’t get hurt again because if he let himself fall, they’d leave. They always leave.
