December #1 Just Fine
*Emily’s POV (Afternoon, Tuesday the 1st)
I can’t even begin to explain how busy the past couple months have been for Zayn and I. Back in October Kenzie pointed out to me that her album had to be written by the same day Zayn’s vocals had to be recorded. That means I had about 11 days to get everything done. I thought it would be fine, but Kenzie’s songs needed a lot more assistance being written than Zayn’s singing. Zayn decided that until I was ready, he would have his producers oversee the recording and then I could approve everything. I ended up spending all of the time finishing up Kenzie’s music, and it was the 31st and Zayn’s album still wasn’t completely recorded.
According to Zayn the producers were being overly picky and didn’t understand what we wanted it to sound like. I was really hoping to spend Halloween with the girls with the Google Hangout we planned in September, but instead I had to pull an all-nighter with Zayn recording and redoing all of the songs. It may have only been six, but we wanted to make sure they all were perfect. We were at the studio until 4:30am on November 1st finishing it to give to the mixers so it could be perfectly mixed and mastered for release on iTunes. That’s what all of November was spent doing; getting the EP mixed/mastered and officially done.
It will be later this month that Zayn’s iTunes page will be made and his EP will officially be released. He has a pretty big following on SoundCloud and YouTube so we’re expecting a lot of people to buy it. We’re so excited to listen to the official album and hear what the fans will hear. It’s hard to imagine, having only heard the music by itself and hearing Zayn’s voice by itself. We’re pretty excited to hear it though because we’ve been working on this album since this summer and for it to finally become a reality is a dream come true for us. We’re supposed to go to Capitol next week for the big reveal.
Today is the first day off of our week to relax. And trust me when I say, we have been enjoying it very much. It’s 2pm and Zayn and I haven’t left our bed. We’ve been cuddling all day but now we’re pretty hungry. Neither one of us wants to get up to get food. “Babe, please? I’ll love you forever and always.” I say trying to get Zayn to get up. “Mmmmmnope. Won’t you love me forever and always no matter what?” he says turning to me with puppy eyes.
“Of course, I was just trying to get you up. I’m so hungry!” I say starting to sit up. “Noooo you stay here, I’ll get some.” he says laying me back down and getting out of bed. “I love you so much.” I say up to him when he’s at the door. “I love you more.” he says smiling at me and leaving for the kitchen.
Sometimes I can’t believe that if it wasn’t for posting my music on SoundCloud, I never would have met Zayn. I mean think about it. If it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t know him or be dating him, I wouldn’t have written these amazing songs, I wouldn’t have started my career already, and I’d still be in New York with Hannah.
I still would have been happy but I would have stressed about industry night and may or may not have been discovered by someone. I have the girls to thank when it comes down to it. They told me to post my music online. It goes to show you how much other people you come across in your life can be a big influence in the long run.
Zayn comes back in with some food and climbs back in bed. “Thank you, baby.” I say kissing his cheek. “Anything for you, love.” he says before eating. “I have a question.” I say. “What is it?” he asks. “What made you choose me to be your co-songwriter? I mean I know you liked my music, but…what set me apart?” He’s silent for a minute. He then turns to face me in the bed.
“Yours was different. It sounded like nothing else I had ever heard before. It was original. That was my main goal of the album. I wanted it to sound like nothing anyone had ever heard before. When I heard your original material that was unprecedented…I just knew I needed to work with you.”
No one has ever given me that kind of compliment about my compositions before. It feels amazing, like I really accomplished something meaningful in my life. “Wow…that makes me feel so special.” I say blushing.
“You are special. Even more so than your musical gift. I knew you had a gift before I met you, but once you were in front of me…I knew you were special in so many more ways. The way you are with Hannah, Mackenzie, Susan, and Sammie is unlike any friendship I’ve ever known. You support them in everything they do. You are so sweet to everyone you meet, and are so considerate of other people. You’re intelligent and caring and so loyal to the people you love.”
He grabs my hands and says “You are literally the best person I’ve ever met and the perfect girl for me. I never wanna let you go.” He then kisses my hands and brushes some hair out of my face. “Well…you’re the perfect guy for me. I couldn’t fathom another person so suited to my personality and my musical style. I can’t wait for you to meet my other friends at our Christmas party in Chicago.” I say before I lean over and kiss him.
“I can’t wait to meet them. They all seem so nice and since they’re your friends they must be pretty amazing.” I smile, “They are. They’re the only other people in my life besides my family so they’re pretty important to me.”
“Well then I really hope I don’t blow it.” he chuckles. “You won’t, sweetheart. Just be yourself and they’ll love you. Did you get all of our plane tickets yet?” I ask. “Yeah I went online last night after you knocked out ‘cause I remembered and thought I should get on that before there wasn’t anything cheap left. I did good.” he says rubbing my arm.
“Thank you…at least one of us is thinking ahead.” He pulls me close to him saying “Look, you’ve had a lot going on the past few months. You have the right to be not-so-on-top-of everything right now. I forgive you, sweetie.” he finishes kissing my head. I knew I picked him for good reasons.
“C’mon, let’s actually get out of bed today. Even if it’s just to go down to the living room to watch TV.” he says moving the covers and picking me up. “What are you doing?” I say laughing. “I’m carrying you downstairs. Any objections?” Seriously? “No, but why are you doing this?” I ask confused. “I just feel like carrying my girlfriend, that’s all. I mean I can put you down.” he jokes starting to lower me. “No! Keep going, sire. As you wish.” I say as he lifts me back up and carries me down the stairs.
We turn on the TV and just watch random shows while curled up on the couch. This feels just like NYC, especially since Kenzie and Niall are at the studio leaving us alone. Now that we’ve done everything we can for the album and it’s just getting the final touches put on it, so much stress has been lifted and now we have our tickets for Chicago for Christmas.
Things are finally starting to slow down and come together with our careers and now later this month, Zayn is coming home with me to meet my friends and family. Sitting here with my perfect boyfriend/music partner in the current state of things, I can say with contentment that I am doing just fine.
