October #3 Halloween!
*Susan’s POV (Morning, Saturday the 31st)
Junior year of college is going pretty great so far. Because Kenz and Em both aren’t living on campus anymore, Hannah and I got the idea that we could room together if I transferred to the New York campus. Besides, since both of us have a boyfriend that is halfway around the world we figured we could really use each other’s support when things got tough. It’s been an adjustment being here compared to LA. Hannah had to help me find where everything is and how to survive the “mean streets of NYC.”
For only being here a month or so, I think I’ve pretty much adapted. It broke my heart to leave my dance friends back in LA, but I have a brand new group of dance friends here now and they’ve taken me in like I’m family. I’m in the same groups here as I was in California, so it’s almost like nothing has changed. Except I really miss Mackenzie. We’re all so happy for her and Niall. They’re a really cute match. Same with Em and Zayn, they’re adorable together and I hope both couples stay that way.
On another hand, this long distance thing is so difficult. Li and I Skype whenever we can, but unfortunately that isn’t very often. We’re both in school and involved in extracurriculars so there are rare times when both of us are free. But when we do talk, it’s always wonderful. He tells me how much he misses me and tells me that as soon as he can, he’ll make a trip to America to visit me. It’s so cute. We chat on Facebook sometimes too and he’ll send me really cheesy clichés to surprise me.
When I told Kenz and Em about him they were so excited and gushed over the picture of him I have on my phone. Hannah then told them about Harry and they got even more excited. They both said that they’ll be here for us if things get really hard and trust me, Anna and I are grateful. We are both on our phones now checking for Facebook messages from our boys. It being 7am here, it’s noon where they are.
I scroll through my phone until it vibrates and a new Facebook message from Liam pops up. It says, “Good morning, beautiful. I miss you lots! Have a great day…as much as you can without me. ;)” I laugh out loud a little before replying, “Good morning, handsome! I miss you too :( ha ha you’re so funny, Li. I’ll talk to you later. Gotta get ready for the Halloween bash I’m having over Google Hangout with the girls today :D”
We decided that even though we couldn’t all be together in person, we could still spend Halloween together so we’re having a hangout tonight. This is a Saturday that Sammie happens to be off work so it worked out nicely.
I set my phone down and smile to myself. Liam is perfect. I am convinced that no other man on Earth will ever be as good for me. I love him so much. He hasn’t told me he loves me though. I’m waiting for him to say it first, because I’m not about to get my heart broken. I look over at Hannah who is staring at her phone with a frown on her face. She keeps scrolling up and down which probably means nothing from Harry. “Nothing?” I ask from across the room. “Nothing at all.” she replies tossing her phone away from her.
“Don’t worry, he’s probably busy. Does he have a job?” “None that he ever told me about.” she says coming over to my bed. “He’ll probably contact you soon enough. I wouldn’t worry about it. Time zones really goof things up, don’t they?” Not for you and Liam! Never for you and Liam. He chats or Skypes whenever he can. It’s obvious he cares about you. I just need to know that Harry cares as much as Liam cares, you know?”
“He does, Hannah! He so does. I mean he wanted you to meet his family before you left the country. He told you everything about himself while you were there and he barely knows you! He seems to trust you with his whole life so he must care about you. He’s probably busy having lunch or hanging out with his friends over there. He’ll get a hold of you as soon as he has a free moment. Okay? Stop worrying so much.” I say giving her a hug.
“Okay…it’s just that now that he has school, the weekends are our only time to talk. And even on weekends he doesn’t contact me until 11:00pm his time and he can only talk for a little bit because he’s too exhausted to stay awake and he goes to bed. He has no time for me anymore and here I am wasting away hours hoping he’ll contact me.” she says getting emotional.
“Han, listen to me. Long distance isn’t supposed to be easy. It tests you and your relationship to see if it’s truly strong enough to endure anything. I believe that you and Harry are strong enough for this. I believe Liam and I are too and you know what? You’re not alone in this. Just remember I’m going through this with you. True it’s not the same, but it could get that way after a while with us too. Just keep your mind off of it as much as you can. I mean today we have our Halloween bash with the girls. Aren’t you excited for it?” I say getting up to start decorating.
“Yeah I am…it’ll be nice to see their faces again. Especially Em’s.” she says getting up to help me. “See? Things aren’t all bad.” I say smiling at her.
That Evening…
It’s around 7:00pm here so the girls should be joining our hangout any minute. Han and I decorated the dorm to look very Halloween-y and we decided to wear costumes too. We talked about it with the girls and decided to dress up like Disney princesses. Han is Elsa, I’m Jasmine, Sammie is Cinderella, Kenz is Belle, and Em is Anna. It’s pretty fitting that Han and Em are Anna and Elsa from Frozen considering how much like sisters they are especially. We just finished getting dressed and doing our makeup and we’re waiting at the computer. This is gonna be so fun!
All of a sudden, Sammie appears on the screen looking like Cinderella. “Hey girls!! You look so cute!” “Us? Look at you, Sam! You’re adorable as Cindy.” Hannah says. “Thanks, Hannah. Where’s Mackenzie and Emily?” “They should be joining us any minute.” I say as my phone buzzes. It’s Kenz texting me. Oh no… “Guys, Kenz just texted me. She said ‘Hey Suz, unfortunately Emily won’t be joining us tonight. I’ll explain when I log on. See you guys soon!’” I look at Han who is clearly upset about this. “Oh no! I hope everything’s okay.” Sammie says.
Just then, Kenz appears. “Hey, guys.” “Hey, where’s Em?” I ask. “I should probably start by telling you that she and I finished writing the music for my album a few hours ago.” Kenz says with a small smile. “Great, Mac!!” Han says. “That’s fantastic. I’m so happy for you!” Sammie says. “Thanks…but the bad thing is that Emily and I have been working so much on writing my music that her and Zayn’s album still isn’t finished and it’s also due tomorrow with mine.”
“Oh my gosh…it’s still not done?!” Han asks. “Nope…so instead of being here with us having fun, she’s at the studio with Zayn rushing to get the vocals completely recorded.” How awful. “That sucks! I really wanted to see her.” Hannah says. “We all did…” Sammie says sadly. “But we can still have fun without her!” I say trying to lighten the mood.
They agree and we get on with what we planned. We all made our own Halloween snacks and picked a Halloween movie for us to watch at the same time. We picked The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s one of our favorites. We thought we would try pressing play at the same time so that it was playing exactly right in all three parts of the country. It took a few tries but we finally got it perfect. It’s about halfway through when we hear someone’s phone ring. It must be Sammie’s. She gets up and says “Keep playing it. I’ll be right back.” I wonder who’s calling her.
