Chapter 4
Rachel's P.O.V.
Monday had passed pretty quickly and before I knew it it was Tuesday. I had ended up falling asleep at Calum's last night and so he was dropping me to school. I didnt want to go to school in my work clothes so I had to throw on a pair of my jeans I had left there along with one of Calums tank tops. I was sure I looked ridiculous but Calum had insisted it looked good and so I left it.
"What are you doing after school?" Calum asked as he pulled up outside the school.
I shrugged.
"Probably just hanging out with Egypt or something. You're welcome to join us" I offered.
He wrinkled his nose. "Thanks but I dont think she likes me much" he replied.
I rolled my eyes.
"Shes just not good around people she doesnt know Cal. Besides shes a close friend of mine and your mybest friend. It'd mean a lot to me if you guyswere friends" I admitted.
He sighed. "I'll see, okay?" He replied.
I giggled. "Thanks Cally" I reverted to the nickname I had used back when we were kids. Without thinking I reached over to press a kiss to his cheek. Once my lips came in contact with his skin I froze, as did he.
I quickly pulled away, already knowing my cheeks would flush.
"Well bye Cal, thanks for the lift. Call you later" I muttered before quickly hoping out of the car and rushing towards the school.
Clases dragged on that day and I found my mind wandering to my bass-playing best friend more than once. Why had I leaned across to kiss his cheek? I had never done that before. It wasnt something. Calum and I would have ridiculously stupid handshakes or insanely tight hugs but kisses wasnt something common with eitherof us.
By the time lunch came around I decided to jusr forget about it. There was no point in stressing out about it. Calum had probably gotten over it then and there so why was I overthinking it so much?
Seeing as Emily was new I had invited her to have lunch with our group. She seemed pretty cool so why not ey?
We bought our food and then I lead her outside to where we sat. When the weather was good we sat on the grass in the shade of the big oak tree out at the front of the school. When we got there the others were already there.
There were quite a lot in our group. I was closest to Emily and Louis of course but there were other as well. There were Louis' friends Liam and Niall. Then there was Liams girlfriend Danielle and her best friend Eleanor. There was also Ashton and Michael. Calum had brought them into the group not long before he had dropped out.
They were all pretty nice people. I pointed them all out to Emily, telling her their names before sitting down next to Louis who had his arm slung over Egypt's shoulder. I knew she didnt really like talking to people she didn't know so Louis kept her close.
They both gave us a welcoming smile and Louis reached out to squeeze my elbow lightly in greeting. I knew Egypt wasn't too fond of Louis touching me much. Not that he meant anything by it - it was only just that we had dated before.
I had told Egypt of course about our past but I wasnt sure if he had. Louis and I frequently joked about "back when we were a couple" but never when she was around. Though she wouldnt admit it to me I knew the friendship between Louis and I sometimes made her uncomfortable.
I felt bad about it as I didnt want to be stressing her out but at the same time I couldnt lose Louis' friendship. He meant a lot to me.
I momentarily let my mind wander to Calum as Louis struck up a conversation with Emily. It came to my realisation that neither Emily nor Louis knew C alum very well. It was strange as he was such a huge part of my life. He was without a doubt the person I was closest to. My absolute best friend.
"Hey guys" I interrupted the conversation suddenly.
Louis, Emily and Egypt turned their atrention to me.
"You're all invited round to Calum' s after school. He'd love a chance to get to know my friends better" I told them with a wide grinning, making a mental note to text Calum at the end of lunch so he'd be prepared for his guests.
