Romancing The Jungle
Pain. (2nd Chapter)
…An Hour Later (On the Island)…

Valerie's POV:

“Thank you Gerard. Please, make sure that the engine of the ship is switched off.” My father spoke, as I was sat on a rock, adjusting my eyeglasses. As I glance to the ship, I notice the crew's ship unloading our research gadgets and equipments. Their efficient work did not block my eyes to gaze at the golden sand that is surrounding my pink heels below.
“(He smiles at me, and speaks) Remember your promise, darling? If you want to assist me you need to change into something more practical.” I sigh with a grin on my face, as an idea strikes my mind instantly. “How about you take on the first mission of exploration, dad? I feel a little tired from the trip, and I’d rather go rest in my room on the ship for now.” My kind father nods in understanding, as I stand up from the solid rock.
Now that the men have finished unloading, they carried their backpacks and followed the lead of my father into the deep jungle. I smile at myself in victory, since my plan succeeded. I am not tired, but my soul is yearning to explore this island, more than researching and taking specimens. I rush my heels as fast as I could, grabbing my purse and putting a water bottle with a tissue packet inside.
As I step outside, my eyes capture a vague figure in the bushes of the jungle. The figure is not clear, since the glass on my specs are attracting the sunlight greatly. I squint my eyes to have a clearer vision, however the figure does not move. All I could determine is a height that is equivalent to mine, when my heels are put on. Once I step down the wooden ladder of the ship, the figure rushes away, causing a rattling noise from the friction with the green bushes. Could it have been one of the crew members? Probably, since the figure seemed to be in a human form.
I decide to shrug the moment off, as I inhale the fresh air and manage to walk in my heels through the jungle. I know that I am stubborn, but what could I do? I am a fashionista, and neither do my sneakers nor my boots are going to match my current outfit. Thinking about it logically, there is no one to empress here, it’s a deserted island as far as I know.
The reason why I am grasping to my physical presentation this much, is because it gives me the persona of being a young lady and feeling pretty; something I had to struggle with when I was a teenager. I had a mouth filled with metallic braces, and I used to be heavier in weight. It took me a day after my graduation to understand that I owe it to myself to accept my beauty and take good care of myself at all times.
As I step into the deep jungle, I notice a purple bird along with a red one, chirping heavenly on a tree branch above me. I smile at their beauty, as I take my next step into the ground. Unfortunately, I did not look where I stepped exactly, which caused me to tumble down on the soiled ground. I whimper once I realise that my leg has dived under an old tree log, as I struggle to free my legs from it with both hands.
I put my bag aside, and notice something alerting to my fear. I notice my ankle bleeding under the log. Blood ripples cascade in front of my eyes from my own flesh, and the worst happens in a blink of my teary eyes. A thundering growl capturers my hearing sense, making my entire body shake in fear. I slowly tilt my face upwards, glancing at a wild panther with the colour of night itself. The untamed animal’s eyes dart in my own, as it begins stepping towards me.
