“(She groans) Child, why is does he keep hugging your knees? (She rubs her temples) Make him sit on the bed, so I could begin.” I look down at Harry, as I help him to sit down on the bed. He smiles at me, once he sees me sitting beside him. “(She snaps her fingers to catch his attention) Harry, say Aye.” She looks at him, but his eyes are focused on my face for some reason, which is making me blush unconditionally.
“Valerie, make him focus please?” I stand up, but he prevents me from moving by placing his palm on my thigh http://www.polyvore.com/essence_mystery/set?id=141010005&lid=4050520. I look at him as he steels my eyeglasses from my face, wearing them instead. My aunt and I chuckle at his curiosity, but then I clear my throat to focus. “Harry? (He looks at me, pointing his finger at himself) Yes, you are Harry. (He smiles, as I ask) Say: Aye?” He parts his lips, as he pronounces the first Alphabet: “Aye.”
My aunt raises her hand upwards, gesturing relief and success. “(I take the glasses off of his eyes, and wear them instead) Now, Say: Bee?” He smiles, as he rejoices the next letter successfully. “(I point my finger at my aunt, so he could focus) Listen to auntie Regina, okay? She wants to help you, Harry.” He looks at my aunt and smiles, as she returns a warm one at him. “(I keep my finger pointed at her, as I tell him) Re-gi-na.”
He looks at me, then at my aunt as he speaks: “(He stutters at first) R-Re-gi-na” My aunt applauds, which makes Harry clap his hands together. I have done this more than once in front of him, but he seemed to have captured it from my aunt; no wonder because she is a great teacher.“(I whisper towards my aunt) I’ll be back, just make sure that you keep smiling auntie. He responds better when he sees a smile.”
I stand up slowly, when my aunt distracts Harry by asking him politely to spell another letter; leaving the room. I huff my breath once I’m outside, but then my father surprises me by getting out of the study room. “How’s the process going, darling?” I nod my head in success as I reply: “Fantastic so far, dad. Harry is learning quite fast and he seems to understand quickly."
He grins as he speaks: “That’s amazing. Now, I will be heading to municipality to figure out the paper work for his ID card. I also called Roger, the tailor, to come by and take his measurements. Harry needs clothes, and once Roger takes his fittings you will go and by him clothes. He can’t keep wearing my own.” Shopping for Harry? That’s perfect, I would have the chance to get him all what he needs.
My father chuckles and gestures for me to go back inside, when my aunt calls for me. I step inside as I find my aunt playing the ABC song in the I-Pod for Harry. I giggled so hard when I saw her and Harry jumping like tribal people, dancing in a funny way to the childish rhythm. His head turns to look at me, as his hand grabs mine to jump with them. It isn’t a foolish moment, it is a celebration gesture for Harry, who is now on the first step of adaptation to his own kind.
This is Harry’s treat, of learning the letters, learning how to communicate and become the bright young man he deserves to be. My eyes look at him as his curls bounce in happiness. His green eyes are squinted with joy, his long legs are squiggling upwards and downwards…Dear God, why is he so magnificent?
