Darling I'm No Angel

A Friend Like Me

Beth's POV

I felt a vibrating motion from the inside of my jean pocket. Sliding my cellphone out I see on the screen the number calling began with a 917 area code. I knew no one who lived in New York so I wasn't even bothered by answering it. Then again perhaps it could've been my long lost soulmate calling me so ofcourse I took the call.

"Hello..?" I greeted.

"Hey it's me Victoria more bizarre shit is happening again!" I could hear the panicking in her voice and I could just picture the scared little doe eyed look on her face. My face curled up and I had to digest all the annoyance from my tone.

"What do you mean by more? Everything is all hunkey dorey. I have to go I'm putting together a surprise that I reckon you are going to just love." I said trying to talk fast getting her off of the phone.

"Beth I'm in partial to anymore surprises." She said trying to prevent me from offering her a kind gesture. "I'm hanging up now." My voice harmonized.

"Are you chatting with Victoria?" Suki asked. I hit the red button on my screen and ended the call.

"What were you thinking? She could have heard you." I said to Suki who was walking beside me. The two of us were headed inside a music shop.

"She probably didn't. What did she want anyway?" She asked scratching the polish off her freshly painted manicure. I forcefully swung my left arm up letting the excessive amount of shopping bags fall back down. "I don't know something about how blah was this and blah blah was that." I laughed.

"You told her you had surprise?" Suki asked. I looked over at her as we strode down the side walk.

We entered the store and hanging in the display were a set of antique guitars. I was most interested in looking for equipment for my acoustic guitar. Suki went in the opposite direction of me mesmerized by the shimmering percussion instruments. I shook my head at the lack of knowledge she held for musical instruments. Sometimes I wonder how we became acquaintances.

"Hi I'm Nicholas is there anyway I could be of assistance?" A male who looked like he was in his twenties asked. I looked up at his short choppy dark brown hair that I'm betting he tugs when he gets nervous. He was easy on the eyes with his prescription RayBan glasses on. And I bet he was even more of a looker without them on. So yes I could use some of his assistance.

"I need to replace some strings on my guitar." I told Nicholas.

"Do you have your guitar with you miss?" He asked. I looked down at my bags and politely shook my head no. "That was a stupid question." He said. "What kind is it?"

I called it, there he went pulling his hair. Must've been some kind of a habit of his. "It's a Artwood Vintage Tenor Acoustic." I informed him.

"If you would just follow me then I can help narrow down your search." He showed me different types of strings that would be a match for my guitar particularly. I only needed four strings but, I went ahead and bought six. Suki came walking up behind me while I was at the register. If I ever had the attention of this guy it went out the window the minute she popped up. "You're Sss-Suki Waterhouse?" He stuttered. She twirled the ends of her blonde hair and nodded answering his obvious question. He nervously rang up my purchase and could barely get the plastic bag to open.

"Have a nice-" I snatched the bag out of his hands and turned around to leave. "Day!" He called out finishing his sentence.

"Well you aren't in a proper mood. Aren't people from Texas always friendly?" Suki asked me.

"I'm from Tennessee!" I exclaimed.

"Anyway if you hate the girl then why are you visiting her like your best mates?" She asked me. I abruptly turned around to face Suki who walked a few paces behind me. "I don't hate her she's my best friend ." I said letting the words stick.

"You could've fooled me." She said.

"Well maybe only a little." I shrugged my shoulder.

"Now your horns are showing through that fiery red hair of yours." Suki smirked. I stood on the edge of the curb doing my Carrie Bradshaw from Sex In The City impression of hailing a taxi. It wasn't that I didn't consider Victoria as my friend. Just to be clear she is. It's only at the moment where I temporarily despise her and she can't even tell. We're suppose to be best friends and she can't even detect the slightest bit of anger I have towards her. But like I said it's only for a short period of time it'll pass given that we move past this. But what is she to mad at me for when Victoria Chambers did everything wrong. After everything that happened to me she never did say she was sorry.

A yellow taxi pulled up and I was impressed with myself. I opened the door to get in and Suki was close in behind me. "What are you doing?" I asked her.

"Getting in with you?" She said confusingly.

"Umm I don't think so." I said climbing into the cab.

"Tell me again what did that girl ever do to get a bitchy friend like you?"

"You're one to talk." I said closing the door. "Bye Elizabeth!" She called out just to mock my first name.

The cab driver turned on the meter. "Where too?"
