The Beast At Midnight

.01

Eva's POV

It was yet another warm summers morning. What I liked about this place, was that even thought it was warm almost every day; the breeze was cool. It cooled you down whilst the sun warmed your skin at the same time.

I pulled my light brown summer dress over my head and tied the little brown rope around my waist. I tied my brown boots to my feet and studied my appearance in the mirror.

Even though I never dressed to impress anyone, my mother always seemed to make me buy clothes that made me look like I'm a flirt.

My personality never matched my outfits, but I was ok with people thinking of me differently than what I was. I've always liked being hard to read.

I grabbed my phone on my bed and pressed it into my bag pack before throwing the bag over my shoulders.

"Good morning," my mother muttered as she took a big bite from her pancakes once I reached the kitchen.

"Morning, mum," I took a seat next to her and reached for a pancake.

"Ready for your first day of your final year?" My mother asked me with excitement in her voice.

If only I was as happy as her at that moment. I really did want to finish school and take on life, maybe even travel or something. But I didn't look forward to the year, because it's always the same normal people.

I've always felt like I didn't belong in this world, like there's something better waiting upon me somewhere else. That never meant that I was suicidal, it just meant that I couldn't see myself finding happiness in this place.

It meant that I couldn't find my place here.

"I guess, but I have to go," I hopped down from my chair after I finished my pancake.

I really wished for my father to be home, but I knew that he left every first weekend of every month for a hunting trip with his uncle. Which meant, that he left that morning at 5.

I started my short walk to school after closing the front door behind me. We lived a few streets down from my school and I enjoyed walking more than driving there, simply because I've always loved passing the forest. Till this very day, I go there to think. It's plain brown and green with the trees and plants, but it's beyond beautiful. And I've always loved the fresh forest smell. Hearing the waterfall was something I could listen to every day too.

My school came into view and with a sigh, I soon entered the school grounds.

Nothing changed at all; the old look the school had was still there and the people, well they seem to be their happy-selves.

I had a few friends, but I didn't have friendships with them. I've never felt the need to trust someone. They always accompanied me and visa versa.

The first bell rang as I entered the halls, signaling that first class was about to start in 5 minutes.

I went to my locker and collected my books for French class when a voice spoke to me.

"It feels like I haven't seen you in ages," Violet gasped.

I put on my best smile-something I always did because I was simply never happy, I never felt the need to smile, but I did, just to prevent everyone from throwing questions at me.

"Hey Violet," I closed my locker and began walking to my class.

Like always, Violet followed.

"So what's your plans this weekend?" Her high pitched voice asked me.

Out of all of my friends, I liked her most. She was always so full of life, she was always so happy. Even if she had a bad day. That always seemed to fascinate me. It hurts thinking about her, especially because she's no longer on this earth anymore. I used to feel jealous at her for leaving, but not anymore. Now, now I'm happy.

"I honestly don't know, maybe having a lazy weekend," I shrugged.

"You always have lazy weekends," I could tell that she rolled her eyes at me, but I kept walking to my class with a smile on my face.

"I heard there's a few new boys coming into the school, I hope they're something for the eye. God knows, this school needs it," she chuckled as we reached our French class.

There she went again with 'God'. Even if she didn't talk about god, the idea made me sick.

I believe in things from out of this world, but till this very day I don't believe in this god being there. I believe that people make him up to ease their minds, to give them false hope for something after they have died. And it always annoyed me how people claimed to praise this lord of theirs, but they sin everything they're not supposed to sin.

"We'll have to see," I smiled at her as I took my seat.

She gave me a nod and walked to her seat.

Soon, the class filled with students, but there was no new students.

Our teacher entered the class with a frown on his face, like he always had.

The class fell silent and turned their attention to Mr. Croch.

No one ever worked in his class but he never seemed to care either. As long as we stayed silent for him to inform us of a few things when class started, we were left to do as we pleased.

"Good morning everyone," Mr Croch clapped his hands together before sitting down on his desk.

"It's not a good morning, school started," a male voice shouted from the back of the classroom, earning a few "boo"'s.

"Yes yes, I know," Mr Croch sighed.

A knock was heard on the door and Mr Croch turned his attention to the door before muttering "come in," under his breath. He said it so softly, that barely I in the first row of class heard him.

The door swinged open to reveal a dark haired male.

'New guy' I thought to myself.

He had a very attractive appearance, even from a distance.

He walked up to Mr. Croch with a smile and they engaged in a conversation.

The door opened again, which made the heads of everyone shoot up once more, this time, a dark brown curly headed male stepped into the classroom.

He studied his surroundings for a few seconds before walking to stand next to the other mysterious male.

They both talked to Mr. Crosh, and after a few minutes of discussion, Mr. Crosh introduced them to the class.

"Class, this is Zayn," he pointed to the male that made his appearance into the room first. "And this is Harry," he smiled as he looked at Harry.

Harry looked aware of everything around him, he paid no attention to the people in the room.

His eyes were big as he scanned the walls and looked out of the windows.

"Zayn, you can take a seat next to Michayla," he pointed to a girl I've never spoken before but had almost all of my classes with.

She lifted her hand up so Zayn would know who she is.

He gave her a small smile and slowly made his way to his new seat.

"And Harry," Mr. Croch tapped his chin. His eyes landed on me and he frowned-once again. "Well that's the only seat open, so Eva," he nodded in my direction.

For the first time, Harry's eyes stopped scanning the class room and the objects in it and his gaze fell upon me.

Notes

"What an awful mess I've made. There's nothing left to save."
