Chapter 33

Harry’s POV

“I’m going to go sit with Anna,” Jess leans up and kisses me before disappearing behind me. I watch to make sure she’s sat down before returning to my friends. When I walk up, all of them are laughing and smirking.

“What?” I snap, sitting down.

“I see you and Jess are getting comfortable.” Louis winks at me.

“It’s not like that,” I hiss.

“Oh, please. I see you two sneaking around with each other. It’s obvious that something’s going on.” He rolls his eyes and everyone laughs.

“Nothing’s going on. And if you don’t shut the fuck up-” I start but catch myself. He’s just being a dick, as usual.

“Calm the fuck down. I’m just joking with you,” Louis balls up his napkin and throws it at me, hitting me square in the face.

Okay, maybe he needs to learn a lesson.

As I contemplate on whether or not to jump across this table, he starts a conversation with someone else.

“So, you two aren’t dating?” Niall takes the seat next to me.

“Fuck no,” the words rip through me and the minute they come out of my mouth, I feel guilty. Jess would kill me if she heard me right now.

“Uh, oh,” Niall whispers and it takes me a minute to see Jess standing behind me, her arms crossed, threatening tears.

“Oh, shit.” I jump out of my seat as she spins around and storms out of the cafeteria.

“Jess!” I yell after her but she keeps getting farther ahead.

Fuck it.

I start running to catch up with her and in no time, I’m right behind her. I reach around and grab her arm, pulling her back.

“What do you want?” She snaps, breaking my grasp on her forearm.

“I didn’t mean what I said,” I say.

“It sure sounded like it.” She snarls.

“Look,” I grab her arm again when she tries to leave, “I’m sorry.”

“You could at least sound sincere about it,” she rolls her eyes.

She spins around again but this time I don’t stop her. I wait as she storms down the hallway and into a classroom before slamming my palm against the lockers. I don’t give a shit if I’m on camera right now and I get in trouble for it.

Why am I such a fuck up? If I would have just kept my fucking mouth shut then everything would have been fine.

I pinch my palms to keep from having another outburst and walk out of the school towards my car. There’s only three hours left, I don’t need to be there. Plus, giving Jess space could give her time to think and, hopefully, forgive me.

Three hours later students begin flowing out of the school. I sit up from my seat and quickly climb from the car, walking towards the building and sitting down on one of the steps.

I’m about to leave when I see her brown hair pulled into a bun come out of the school. She sees me just as she starts down the steps and begins to turn in the other direction when I grab her hand.

“Wait,” I plead, my voice cracking partially.

“My parent’s will be wondering where I am,” she bites her lip but remains with me.

“I can give you a ride home, I know you walked.” I offer. Much to my surprise, she nods and follows me down the steps to my car.

“Jess, I’m sorry,” I begin but she shakes her head.

“I’m sorry for overreacting. I should have known that you wouldn’t have wanted to tell everyone at first.” I look for sarcasm in her voice but her tone holds nothing but seriousness.

“No, it’s not that,” I start and grab her hand. “It’s just that… I’m not used to having a girlfriend to hold hands with or kiss in public. I guess everyone sees me as someone who would just fuck some girl in the bathroom.” She frowns at my language but I can see the wheels turning in her head.

“We don’t have to tell anyone,” she suggests.

“Believe me, I want to. Just let me tell them myself. It will be easier coming from me,” I say, pulling her onto my lap to where she’s straddling me. She wraps her small arms around my neck and smiles, connecting our lips.

“Okay,” she whispers, laying her head down on my chest. We stay like that for another few minutes before she climbs back into her own seat, taking the warmth with her.

I start the car after she’s settled and begin to take her home. Once I get into her neighborhood, she tells me to stop a few blocks from her house.

“Why?” I ask but oblige and pull over to the side of the street.

“I don’t think my dad wants to see you bringing me home,” she laughs and opens her car door. She leans across the console and gives me a kiss before walking down the sidewalk. I make sure she’s gotten home before turning around and heading home.
