Chapter 15

"Open the door, Harry." I say sternly. An hour ago things were fine between us and now he's locked me in his car.

"Just let me explain myself." He pleads, a different tone then earlier. Something tells me to listen to him but my stubbornness powers through.

"No. You took advantage of me, like the jerk you are. Now let me out of this car." I glare at him and a second later the door clicks. Without saying another word, I grab my things and quickly dart into my car. The faint outline of Harry disappears in the rearview mirror as I tear out of the parking lot.

I don't stop the tears from falling on the way home. I turn down a road that takes me the long way and end up on the side of the road. Rain has began to fall and I don't want to drive in my hysterical state. I lay my head on the steering wheel and close my eyes, hoping to evade the tears.

On the passenger seat, my phone buzzes with a call and I catch a glimpse of Harry's name before it goes to voicemail. Another call follows and I grab the phone, fumbling to turn it off. The rain drowns out my sobs and thirty minutes later the tears have subsided for the most part. I look in the mirror and try to fix my smeared makeup as I turn back on the main highway.

I get home in a short amount of time and sit in the car for a few minutes, trying to recover myself. Thankfully when I step outside, the rain mixes with the tears and it isn't noticeable any more.

"Where were you?" My mother asks when I step inside the house, soaking wet and cold.

I focus on taking off my boots to avoid her seeing my face. "Harry took me back to get my car from the school." I state and untie my right boot.

"How was your studying session?" My mother leans against the plush white chair in the foyer. She's the only one who knew that I had a tutor coming over today, I just didn't tell her who.

"It was fine. We got a lot of work done." I start moving towards the stairs. "I'm not feeling well, I think I'm just going to get some sleep." Worry flashes across her face but she nods and says she hopes I feel better.

I shut the door behind me and I'm hit with the memory of what happened earlier. It was great until Harry ruined it by being a jerk. I blame myself partly for believing he was something he wasn't.

I take a shower and enjoy the endless stream of hot water. It rinses off the evidence from earlier, making me feel like it never happened. I dry off and put on a pair of cotton shorts with a white t-shirt. It's just 8:30 but it feels like it's midnight. I climb into bed and pull the covers up to my neck, trying to create some type of warmth.

Below me, there are the distant sounds of chatting in the living room. They're probably trying to figure out what's wrong with me. If only I knew myself.

The morning sun seeps through my curtains, making the room feel much warmer than it actually is. I slowly crawl out of bed and drag my feet across the floor towards my bathroom.

After taking a quick shower, I change into a pair of black jeans and a white sweater. Warm and comfortable, exactly what I'm desperate for right now. I put on a touch of makeup and curl my hair into it's usual waves. I look much better than I feel. Maybe my appearance will wear off on my attitude.

"Good morning," I say, my voice barely audible, as I enter the kitchen. My father sits at the kitchen table, looking at the various sheets spread in front of him, whereas my mother stands at the stove, stirring what looks like to be eggs.

"Good morning, honey." she surprises me by giving a quick peck on the cheek as she hands me my plate. Eggs, bacon, and a piece of toast cover the plate and I quickly scarf down the food along with a glass of milk. Warmness spreads throughout me and I smile at the feeling.

"Would you like a ride to school?" My mother asks as she turns off the stove. I'm still not used to her cooking, it's certainly a sight for me.

"I can walk." I say. The cool air could clear my mind and prepare me for the day ahead.

"Okay," she smiles. "I'm going to go get ready. I'll pick you up from school." she waves goodbye to me before disappearing into her bedroom.

"I should leave, it's getting late." I say, looking at the wall clock. My dad looks up from his sheets only to hug me goodbye. I slip on a pair of toms, grab my bag, and head out the door.

Wrapping my coat I grabbed on the way out tightly around my waist, I look down at the ground to avoid the wind hitting me square in the face. The air is much cooler than I expected but it's somewhat comforting. I let my mind wander about today as I step out on the sidewalk.

What am I going to do? Not only do I sit by Harry in Stats, I see him around the school everywhere I go. No doubt he'll want to talk to me. How am I supposed to avoid him? The school may be huge but most of our classes are near each other.

Just as I'm planning my way around the school, I see the huge building looming over me. Most of the people aren't here yet and I praise myself for deciding to come early. I jog up the front steps and immediately head to Chemistry.

The only other person in the class is Cameron, who is standing at our table, reading. The door creaks as I close it and his head snaps up, a smile covering his face.

"Oh, hey." Cameron says when I walk up to the table. I drop my bag on the floor and take the empty stool next to him. He shuts his book and pushes it to his side, focusing all his attention on me.

"Hi." I smile. "What are you reading?"

"Some book about the life in the oceans. I know it's lame." He shrugs and pushes the book over to me. The book looks very interesting but marine biology is not something I expected from him.

"It's not lame. You like to study Marine Biology?" I ask and hand him back his book.

He shrugs. "I grew up near the ocean and I guess I just fell in love with it." He smiles, as if an old memory is resurfacing, and my heart warms. This new side of Cameron is totally different than what I usually see, it's almost refreshing to know that he isn't a jerk like everyone else at this school.

"When we lived in the Caribbean, there was an aquarium by our house. I went there almost every day." I smile at the memory. Although we didn't spend much time there, it was one of my favorite places.

"You don't act like you look." Cameron admits.

"What?"

"Most rich girls in this town are snobby and stuck up. You're the total opposite."

"Thanks." I drop my eyes to the floor. At one point or another, he must have thought that I was some rich snob who only cared about herself. Although he justified that I wasn't snobby and stuck up, it still hurts.

Much to my luck, the class begins to fill and our conversation disappears. Anna and Liam soon join us and in one short hour we're being dismissed. I avoid speaking to Anna any more than I have to and quickly leave the classroom.

I push my way through the hallway full of students and find my locker on the other side. I put the binders and textbooks I don't need away and grab my French textbook. Just as I shut my locker door, I see the outline of the boy in black storming towards me.
