Life, Cars and One Direction... Wait What?!

Chapter 9: LOUIS!

Louis POV
“That would be perfect!” I said into the phone. I hung up and put my phone in my pocket. Right, another thing crossed off the list. Food, venue, people, her dress, what was missing? Shit, my tux. I ran to my room and went through the wardrobe. I hid it at the back so if Codie decided to go through it, she hopefully wouldn’t find it.
Four minutes ‘till we had to leave. How can I get changed in four minutes? I couldn’t be late, this was important to Codie, whether she knew it yet or not. “LOU, ARE YOU READY YET?” Liam shouted up to me.
“JUST NEED TO CHANGE!” I screamed back. I quickly got my tux on, checked myself in the mirror, ruffled up my hair and ran downstairs. I slipped my shoes on and ran out to the car. We decided to hire one, we couldn’t steal Codie’s car all the time, especially when she was using it. We bought a few number plates so no one knew what car we were in. I jumped in the front passenger seat.
The tux looked a little weird with the cast on, but, it would do. We took off, probably regretting Harry driving, and went to the venue.
***
“Five minutes everyone!” I shouted to the 100 people here. Five minutes ‘till Codie got here. Five minutes ‘till that look on her face. She thinks that this is just another club, well, it is a completely different story. Five minutes, that was too long. The music was pounding through the speakers, I was going a little deaf because of it.
I sat down at a table, this party wouldn’t start until Codie got here. I watched as the clock ticked away, as everyone danced on the floor. Five minutes passed, then ten, then twenty. I grabbed my phone.
To; Jamie:
Where are you?
This was taking longer than planned. She was supposed to be here by now, everything was supposed to be perfect. Well, there goes that.
From; Jamie:
We’re on our way, give us five. Fashionably late, Codie’s reputation…
Oh god. Alright then.
To; Jamie:
Okay, just hurry up, I’m feeling lonely :’(
As soon as I sent it I got a reply.
From; Jamie:
Don’t you have four friends with you? Whatever, be there in three…
Would that be minutes, hours or days? She did have a point, all of the guys were here… I got up and went onto the dance floor. I couldn’t wait until she walked in, the look on her face… would be amazing.
Codie’s POV
We drove up to the door of a place. It didn’t look like a club, but, weirder things have happened. “Here’s our stop!” Jamie said getting out.
“Really? It looks questionable to me” I asked.
“Well, I am 99.99999% sure anyway…” great, so we might not be at the right place. We walked in the door, and the bass of music was heard. So, maybe we were.
We went into a front room, for some reason there was a desk there, that’s weird for a club. Jamie told us to stay there as she went towards the lady sitting there. They had a quick and quiet conversation and Jamie came back all excited. “We’re in, let’s go!” the rest of the girls got excited and jumped around like loony’s. We eventually made our way to the gateway to our music and getting drunk and dancing.
I grabbed the handle and pulled the door open. I was attacked by staring eyes and people shouting ‘Happy Birthday!’ I took in the bright lights, the music and the streamers. Then I saw the massive banner hanging from one side of the building to the other saying ‘Happy Birthday Codie’ in capital letters. Who had the money and time to get this organised? I looked around the room, looking for the face that I knew would probably be responsible. I couldn’t find the brown hair and the blue eyes though. Where was he?
I knew he would be here, the other four were scattered around the room, surrounded by people. “Did you four do this?” they all shook their heads.
“No, the culprit is-” she looked around the room.
“I don’t know where.” The music was cut off as someone stepped on the stage and grabbed a microphone.
“So, people of Adelaide and beyond. How are we tonight?” oh god. Everyone responded with a scream of blurred words. As I looked at all the people, all of the girls were in beautiful dresses and the guys all in tuxes. Wait, what? “Good, good. So everyone knows why we’re here?” he screamed again. Another mixed reply came. Overall it sounded like a ‘yeah-s’. “Even better. So, first of all I would like to wish the birthday girl, a happy birthday.” Nah, you want to wish me a Merry Christmas.
“Secondly, I would like to thank you all for coming on such short notice. It means a fair bit to me that you would come here because I asked you too.” Get on with it. “Thirdly, I want the birthday girl up here with me, I know she’s here.” Oh jeez. I walked to the stage, followed by staring eyes. I tell you, if looks could kill… I finally made it and got on stage. As suspected, the guy on stage was obviously him. “Happy Birthday Codie!” he said as he creepily put an arm over my shoulder.
“Thanks” I said, microphone still close, everyone laughed at my comment. I had said it in a ‘I can’t be bothered but I have to say this’ tone.
“Whatever. Anyway, lastly, I want everyone to have a great night, and I hope it brings back some great memories and maybe even make some more. Music maestro!” he shouted as he dragged me offstage.
The song had changed from a heavy bass to a slow and floaty song. Everyone grabbed their partners and started slow dancing on the dance floor. I went to my friends, losing Louis in the process. They all had someone to dance with, whether it being just for the night or longer. Amelie, obviously Harry, Clarisse had Liam in hand. Jamie had some guy with blonde, puffy hair and Elysse had some red-head.
Nice to be introduced to my friends guys. Whatever. I walked around aimlessly for about five minutes before I bumped into Niall, why did I think any better of him? He was at the food table. “What are you doing?” I asked him.
“What does it look like? I’m eating. I haven’t had anything since five thirty.” I checked my watch.
“That was an hour and half ago.”
“Feels like a life time” he said, shoving more food in his mouth.
“Where are the others?” I asked him. “Harry and Liam are both with their girlfriends. Duh, Zayn’s over there with some girl. Still trying to find the one he is, I’m here and Louis is over… there” he pointed in Louis’ direction. When I saw him, he was dancing with some other chick. She had bleach blonde hair and was in a dress that just covered her arse.
Why did I think that he would want to dance with me? It was such a stupid idea. Why did this hurt? Why was my stomach all weird? Why did I feel like punching him in the face right now? Why was I starting to cry? Oh Jesus, not the crying. I walked slowly to the bathroom, avoiding people, even my friends. I opened the door and went in.
“Are you going to cry Codie?” the familiar, yet surprising, voice of my celeb friend said.
“That depends Taylor. If it’s crying over a guy, then sure. Wait, why are you here? Shouldn’t you be in America or something?”
“Yeah, but, I was invited here, you have no idea how bad my jetlag is right now. If I could die, I would. Who is this guy anyway, because if he breaks your heart, I will kill him”
“You really want to know?”
“Your my friend, why wouldn’t I?”
“Because, it’s Louis Tomlinson.”
She looked at me like, dafaq? “Okay then. I thought you hated One Direction.”
“I do, just, I don’t like their music. Because they’re staying at my house, and, they’re different than I thought. Louis already likes me, a lot. The thing is, I don’t know what I feel. He’s given me a week for me to make up my mind, they’ve already been at my house for a week.”
She nodded slowly. “Well, you don’t know unless you listen to your heart. Just remember, don’t change. This saying should be important for you, ‘if you’re lucky enough to be different, don’t ever change’. That’s my quote by the way, just listen to the wonderful advice of Taylor Swift. Maybe you shouldn’t though, my track record isn’t that great. Just listen to your heart, you’ll find the answer there.”
With that she left after checking her make-up in the mirror, and on the way out, tapping me on the head. That kinda helped, but it wouldn’t stop the crying from coming.
I looked in the mirror, geez, I actually looked like a girl for a change. Make up done, very little mind you, hair all curled and flower-fied. I wasn’t sure how I felt about it though. Why was I in here? Shouldn’t I be glad he moved on, not in here? Tears started building in my eyes. Please, don’t cry, it’s just Louis. I wanted him to move on, but now… I’m not so sure. Did I want him for my own or not? Jesus, stop the crying, he’s not that important, right?
That wasn’t helping. Tears ran down my cheeks, taking with them my eyeliner and mascara. Oh God, so this was what it was like when people cried in the movies with make-up on. Well, I don’t want to do it again. Not ever. The door opened as someone walked in, thinking it was a girl, I continued on crying.
“What’s wrong?” a guy’s voice said.
“I could sue you for being in here. You know that right?”
“Why so harsh?” he said.
“Because, you were dancing with that chick.”
“That blonde?”
“Yes… I don’t know anymore”
“Well, for your information, I was trying to find you when I walked on the dance floor. That was a mistake. She started dancing next to me when I got held up by a swarm of people. So I started crumping and being weird until I could get out and when I did, you were gone. I looked for you again, and found you here. I wasn’t actually ‘dancing’ with her, more like… next to her”
“Alright then. I’ll take your word for it.” I walked up to Louis and hugged him, have no idea why, but I did. Maybe it was because I felt comfortable around him. He was probably the best friend I have ever had. He put his arms around my waist as well and he rested his chin on my head. That was a pretty good effort since I was wearing heels.
“I know I gave you a week, but, as a friend would you like to be my dance partner?”
“Really Louis?”
“Yes Codie”
“But-”
“Just say yes god dammit. I don’t want to continue it on if you don’t want to, only for tonight okay?”
“Oh god, alright Louis.”
I looked into his blue eyes, “thank you” he said as he stared into my eyes. Another tear rolled down my cheek, taking more eyeliner with it. I probably looked like a panda or racoon right now. He brought his hand up to my face and wiped away the stains. I took a tiny step away from him and looked in the mirror.
“Oh jeez.” I grabbed a paper towel and wet it. I wiped away the rest of the stains and turned to face Louis again.
“Finally!” he said as we went towards the door.
I held his hand as we walked out of the bathroom. Not the best way to start the night, but it would do.
As soon as we stepped out, it felt like a million eyes were watching me. I looked down to the ground. “Why are you looking down Codie?” I shook my head.
“I don’t know. Everyone’s looking at me, I’m not used to wearing heels and make-up, and, I’m holding hands with you.” I spoke the truth in that sentence, I mean sentences.
“This is your birthday party. People want to see your beautiful face and have a glimpse of those ocean blue eyes. They didn’t come here because of me, but because of you.”
“Louis, I don’t know any of these people.”
“They all watched you race. They know you, that’s what matters”
“Ummm, Louis, I’ve only raced once, and I was shit, so… why would they want to know me?”
“Tink, when you race… it’s like watching… I don’t know, but you are amazing at what you do. The real question is who doesn’t want to know you?”
“I don’t know who doesn’t want to know me, and don’t call me Tink. My name is Codie, or you call me Tinkerbelle, not Tink.”
“Oh whatever Tink. You just have to know that you are the reason they’re here, not me. Full stop on that conversation.”
We finally made it to the dance floor, but I think all of the bass songs had been put away until later in the night. We found a patch of ground that we could dance on and I turned to face him.
My right hand went on his shoulder while the other interlocked with his un-casted hand. His left hand collided with my hip, well the cast did making a thud on my bone. “Oww, be careful with that hand, it’s practically made out of brick.”
“Sorry Tink.” He said as we started stepping slowly from side to side. “This is nice, people not trying to attack me, the boys at least two meters from me and, I’m dancing with the girl of my dreams.”
“Louis…”
“What, it’s true. You are amazing, perfect in every way. Especially in being non-perfect.”
“Louis, that makes no sense-”
“Well, I don’t make sense, do I?”
“You have a point there. But I don’t either, so we should get along just fine.”
“I would hope so.”
“Why?”
“Well, would you like to and get a hot chocolate tomorrow?”
“You remembered I don’t like coffee? Just because you said hot chocolate instead of coffee doesn’t mean I’ll say yes…”
“As friends then?”
“Here, I’ll go with you to get a hot chocolate, and I know this will disappoint you, but I’ll only go if we’re more than friends.” His eyes lit up as I said that sentence. He nodded slowly.
“That sounds awesome. Wait here, I am going to get a drink, I’ll be right back” he let me go and reversed through the crowd, bumping into someone. I laughed when he did. That was when something clicked in my head.
These people were all in tuxedos and floor length dresses… mostly. Maybe this was more than a birthday party, maybe this was for something I missed out on four years ago. Maybe this was my formal…
“LOUIS!”
