Life, Cars and One Direction... Wait What?!
Chapter 8: Alright, I'll give you a week
“Morning beautiful” was all I heard when I woke up.
“DAD!” I screamed. I practically leapt two meters out of bed and wrapped my arms around him. “OH MY GOD! I HAVE MISSED YOU SO MUCH!” he laughed.
“I was only gone for a week and two days.” I know I was 21, but I loved my Dad, and I hadn’t seen him for a while.
“That’s too long” I said.
“Whatever bumpkin. See you downstairs.”
“Don’t call me ‘bumpkin’. I’m not seven anymore.”
“You act like it.” I gave him a death stare, but I knew he was right. He stared back at me with intense blue eyes.
“Geez, you know that freaks me out.” I told him. He laughed as he turned to walk downstairs. His brown hair flicking up behind him.
“That’s the point” was the last thing he said to me before he went downstairs. I chucked on some trackies and a jumper, shoved some cereal in my mouth and ran downstairs.
Dad was facing away from me and shaking the hands of one direction. I silently crept up behind him. I signalled to not say anything to the boys by putting my finger over my lips. I think they got it because they didn’t say anything. He shook Louis’ hand and started talking to him. I kept walking slowly until I was two meters away. I jumped behind a chair as he began to turn around. I held my breath until he started talking to Louis again. Now or never.
I jumped off the chair and onto his back. “Raar” I screamed in his ear. He didn’t even jump, but I knew I’d scared him.
“Geez Codie? I just get back and you’re already scaring me? You know I will get my revenge”
“Yeah, I know. I just had to get in first” he shook his head. I put my feet on the ground and walked to the couch. I fell down onto it and grabbed the remote. I flicked through the channels and found nothing. Louis sat next to me.
“What ya gonna watch babe?” he asked.
“Babe?” I said, maybe a little too harshly.
“Well, from what happened yesterday…” I looked at him, was he joking?
“What happened yesterday?” I asked, seriously, I didn’t know.
“We, we kissed. Don’t you remember?” I looked at him for a minute. Then another.
“Ooohhhh, that… Well damn, I did didn’t I?” how could I twist this one around? Did I want too? “Wait. That was after I told you about…” he looked at me with beautiful blue eyes.
“Your friends, yeah” he finished the sentence for me. I took a deep breath.
“Louis, I know that you really want to be with me. I know that what happened yesterday meant something, but…”
But what? I asked myself. “But what?” Louis asked me.
“But I don’t know what it meant. I need some time to think. I let my emotions get the better of me. Please, just understand that the last time I was with someone, he dumped me 10 minutes before formal, or prom in your case. I had everything ready, I was in my dress, my make-up and hair was done. When he was supposed to pick me up, I got a text saying we’re over. That was the last person I was with, and it was four years ago. After that I passed all of my subjects and realised all guys are arses and only want me for my body, not for… not for me.
“They just wanted bragging rights. So that they could be like ‘dude, I slept with this chick last night’ and then the rest of his friends going ‘how dafaq did you get that girl?’ My longest relationship lasted 4 days. That was the person who broke up with me prom night. Look Louis, I just need some time okay?”
“Alright, I’ll give you a week. Make up your mind by then, maybe you’ll choose to be with me as well.” He gave me another sad smile that I had already seen too many of and got up to go to his room. That was when I realised that no one else was in the room. I was all by myself… again.
Louis POV
I went to my room and closed the door silently behind me. I didn’t understand. I didn’t understand how she didn’t admit to her emotions. Why wouldn’t she come around? I could see it in her eyes. How could I prove to her that I won’t break her heart? How could I make her fall for me like I have for her? How?
I heard a car in the driveway and looked out the window. Codie’s friends got out of Jamie’s little red car and Codie ran out the door. Harry ran out and hugged Amelie, oh wait, would that be Amelia? At least I took the time to remember their names, and I’m not ‘going out’ with any of them… yet. I went downstairs and out the door. I waved and said hello to all of them, getting a response back from every one of them.
We all filed back inside and fell on the couches upstairs. “I’ll be back in a minute” Codie announced as she left the room. The rest of the girls waited, staring at her until she left the room. They sprang into action.
“Oh my gosh, what are you guys getting for her birthday?” Jamie whisper shouted.
“I don’t know yet, I was hoping one of you guys knew, ‘cos I didn’t…” Elysse said.
“Don’t look at me, I don’t know her as well as you do” Clarisse said.
“Maybe she would like some money” Amelie suggested.
“She already gets enough of that” I jumped into their little circle. “Light bulb” I said smiling. This would win her heart, and hopefully replace something she lost ages ago. “When is her birthday?” I asked. I didn’t actually know.
“On Thursday. Didn’t she tell you?”
“No, why would she?”
“Aren’t you two like… you know”
“Together? No.”
“You should be. You two are like perfect for each other.”
“Really?” Well, at least I wasn’t the only one who thought that. “Wait, Thursday?” they all nodded. “That’s tomorrow” they all looked at each other.
“SHIT!” they shouted at the same time.
“What are we shitting?” Codie said walking back into the room.
“Nothing.” I said being very suss. “Apart from the fact you wouldn’t tell me it’s your birthday tomorrow.”
She looked at the ground, “well, I didn’t want you spending money on me.” I stared at her.
“Really? That’s the reason?” she nodded.
“I didn’t want to look like I was sucking the money out of you.” I shook my head.
“And so you thought I wouldn’t find out some other way? Well, clap clap for the handicap. I was going to find out sooner or later. I am Louis Tomlinson, I see, hear and know all.”
She laughed at that comment. “Alright the human brain.” She said to me.
“Only at midnight” I replied.
“Whatever.” She said getting annoyed.
“What do you want to do for your birthday?” Jamie asked, changing the subject.
“I’ve already told you. Nothing. I want to sit at home, on the couch, and watch TV. That’s it. I don’t want any fancy parties, I don’t want any fancy presents.” She said the last line while looking at me.
I put my hands up, being innocent. Well, playing innocent anyway. “Can I have your number Jamie?” I asked. She gave me a look of why do want that information? I gave her a look of you’ll find out in a minute.
“Yeah, sure. As long as we keep it less than G rated.” I nodded.
“Not for that reason.” I said. She told me the number and I put it in my phone. I gave her mine and I winked at her. I think she understood why I wanted her number. She knew I had something planned.
“Alright, it’s the third Wednesday of the month. Everyone knows what that means.” They all grabbed their wallets and held them in the air.
“SHOPPING!” They all screamed in sync. Codie ran out of the room, most likely to get her money.
“Alright guys, girls. This is the plan, get her a beautiful dress, party dress, cocktail dress, I don’t care. Just get her a dress. Get yourselves one as well. I’ll text Jamie the details, I have some planning to do.” When Codie came back we were all sitting in a semi-circle looking suss.
“We ready? I’m driving.” She said.
“Shotgun!” Amelie shouted. This was going to work out perfectly…
Codie POV
I put the keys in the ignition and drove off. I followed every twist and turn. Well, I wasn’t going off road in my Ferrari. I heard the sound of Jamie’s phone go off and her rummaging through her bag. This was one of the rare times when her phone wasn’t in her pocket. “BINGO!” she shouted, making me swerve.
“JESUS!” I shouted back at her.
“No, just Jamie, but I’m told the resemblance is uncanny.” We all burst out laughing. But I had to concentrate again so I didn’t crash the car. Eventually after about five minutes we all calmed down and Jamie checked her phone.
“So, we are shopping for dresses people!” she quietly shouted.
“Okay… wait, what for?” I asked as she looked back at her phone. “Let me find out.” She silently texted the mysterious person back and started a quick conversation while she waited. Instead we sang along to a song on the radio.
“HEY! WHY DIDN’T I COME UP WITH THAT?!” I stopped the car and pulled over.
“REALLY! AGAIN WITH THE SHOUTING?!” I yelled at her.
“Sorry, I was just checking Facebook and they had this really cool idea. Anyway, we need dresses because we’re gonna go clubbing tomorrow!” she got excited.
“For my birthday?” I asked quietly.
“Yeah, well you need to do something apart from taking care of One Direction for another day. We have to find you an amazing dress for you, and heels and, oohhh, you’re going to look beautiful girl.”
“Whatever you say Booker.”
“It goes Tinkerbelle. Whatever I say goes. You should know that by now.”
“Do I really need heels? The last time I wore them was… was… was ages ago”
“No, only about a week. My party remember? Or did you forget that my birthday is a week before yours? I may have been turning 21, but still.” it’s true, her birthday is only seven days before mine.
“You get my gist.” I started the car again and we continued on our way to Rundle Mall.
***
We finally got there and looked through all the shops. Amelie had a knee length silver and green dress. Elysse had a blood red and black short and sleeveless dress. Jamie had a beautiful dress that faded from a pale blue to dark blue. Clarisse who looked good in anything had a floor length dress of non-metallic gold. They all had matching heels and jewellery.
Meanwhile, I still stood blankly touching a piece of clothing every now and again. “What about this one?” Jamie said, grabbing a blinding fluorescent dress.
“Sure, but I need a pair of matching sunnies” I said, sarcasm practically dripping off of my words.
“You love bright colours though…” she said, looking towards the ground.
“Yeah, when their not a full dress, from the sleeves to the floor!”
It was, fluoro green from top to bottom. “Look, there’s obviously nothing here so we’ll drive to Marion and look in there for my dress okay?” She nodded as the others returned from there adventure to get food.
“Sausage roll for Booker and a meat pie with cheese for Tinkerbelle” I grabbed the meat encased pastry with cheese inside as well. Right now the thought of food made me want to puke. Maybe I got something from Louis…
“I don’t want it anymore” the smell was good, but, right now I didn’t want it.
“I did not pay 4 dollars for you to just throw that away!” Amelie practically screamed at me.
“Look, I don’t feel too well. I’ve been walking around aimlessly for what…” I checked my phone. “Three hours, and haven’t got a thing yet. You guys are completely set and I got nothing, and it’s my birthday tomorrow.”
They all had their quiet conversation and Clarisse stepped forward. “One more shop, and if you can’t find anything in there we’ll go home okay?” she had a small smile on to make me feel a little better.
“Really? Why can’t we go home now?” I probably sounded like a five year old. But my feet hurt, I didn’t feel too good and they wanted to keep pushing me until I died. Usually I’m first to get everything, this was a huge change.
“One last shop, I promise.” She grabbed my hand and I was pulled along for another few minutes of torture. We went out after thanking the shop owner and buying a packet of mints, all for me, and continued our hike. The packet of Eclipse mints was gone in about five minutes. We walked past a bin and I threw the mint tin in it. I grabbed the pie and attempted to eat it. I stopped the group by sitting down at a table.
“Come on Tinkerbelle” They all said in sync.
“Give me ten minutes, I need a break from the smell of newness and clothes.” They all got a chair and sat with me while I ate my pie. It was delicious, and after I took a bite I became really hungry. I finished it within five minutes and we had a quick conversation. “So, Amelie, how’s your life partner going?”
“You’re the one the one who lives with him!” she screamed at me.
“Geez, just making a joke” I said innocently.
“You just shut up about us okay, like you can talk anyway. Your relationships never moved at any speed. I at least get on with mine. So don’t say anything!”
“At least they all know what my name is. Your so called ‘boyfriend’ couldn’t tell your name if his life depended on it!” I hated it when people picked a fight with me over a joke. Especially when I fought with Amelie.
“Well, at least I’m not on and off with my guy!”
“Just face it Amelie he’s not interested in you, he just wants-”
“That’s quite enough girls” Jamie cut me off, thinking for me. I would have regretted it if I had finished that sentence.
“Let’s just move to the next shop shall we?” Clarisse said as she stood up with Jamie and Elysse.
“Whatever” Amelie said as she stood up and stomped to the car.
“Over reaction much?” I said, I know I can blow out but seriously? It was a joke.
We walked to the last shop and before I even walked in I knew I would find what I wanted. I felt like a fly when I looked at the window, I saw the perfect dress. I bee lined for it and stuck myself to the window. “Perfect” I said under my breath.
I walked in, well, ran being very suss and saw there was only one dress left. Another person had their eye on it. I saw the colour on the hanger and knew it was my size. The other chick looked the same size as me. This wasn’t the first time I’ve been in a shop showdown. The trick is to get in first, or… put them off. I took a step towards it, as did she. She was closer god dammit. Another step was taken. If I took one more, she would too and she would have it. I put on a confused face while staring at the wall behind her.
“Is that a goat?” I said pointing at the wall. She fell for it and turned around. I acted quickly by taking a massive step and a half, grabbing the dress and retreating to my friends. When I turned around she was giving me a death glare and was huffing and puffing. I ignored her and jumped around like a loony with my friends. “I GOT IT!” I screamed at the top of my lungs.
“I’m going to try it on, then I will find some heels, and everything will be perfect.” I walked towards the change rooms and tried it on. I came out in the dress, and, not to toot my own horn, but I looked pretty good. The dress was purple and went over one shoulder. It was tight ‘till my hips, then it became a poofy skirt. It went to the ground and a bit extra for heels. I’m not sure how I could go clubbing in this, but they told me it would be perfect when I put it on. I took it off and folded it up. I carried it around with me as I started looking for some shoes.
I found a pair of heels that went from deep purple at the tips to silver at the top. “Perfect” I said again as I found a bracelet. It was purple and was fairly chunky. “Guys, this is amazing.” Elysse jumped around like an idiot, but we were used to that. We bought the stuff and left the shop, preparing ourselves for the monster that was waiting at my car. AKA. Amelie.
