Life, Cars and One Direction... Wait What?!
Chapter 5: No! Toy story!
“X-Men!” I shouted.
“No! Toy Story!” Liam shouted back. This had gone on for 20 minutes. Hopefully it would end soon.
“X-Men” I shouted again, all of the boys were on my side but Liam.
“Toy Story!” he shouted back. Wait a minute.
“You have a plasma in your room! Go watch it by yourself!” I shouted. He thought about it and shouted back.
“This one is bigger!” I had a great comeback for that.
“I know my dick is bigger than yours, but that doesn’t mean you have to shout it to the world! Go watch your movie in your room!” that finished off that argument. He stormed away and I could hear him going down the stairs.
I turned to face the other guys. “That was hard” I said, really quietly compared to before. I put the DVD into the player and grabbed the remote. “Where am I supposed to sit?” they had taken up every single seat. They sat there intently waiting for the movie to start. “The movie ain’t starting ‘till someone moves their arse, or legs, or something.”
This was a moment for crickets. I stood there, held the remote in plain view and sighed very loudly. I stood there for thirty minutes before I heard a truck. I turned the plasma off and ran outside. My friends jumped out of the truck and threw me the keys. I needed to test the gearbox. I ran to the back of the truck and waited for the door to open. It didn’t, instead I heard a scream. I sprinted to the sound, it was just Amelie and Clarisse meeting the boys. They really should get over themselves.
Amelie went to Harry and started talking to him, she had always had guys wrapped around her finger. Clarisse went to Liam and started chatting him up, they were the two who were bound to get whoever they want. Jamie and Elysse stood back and had an utter look of ‘what the fruck?’ on their face. Zayn, Niall and Louis all stood near the house, kind of trying to be cool, but epically failing.
“Guys! It’s kinda hard to get out the car when there’s a door in the way!” Jamie ran to the truck’s driver side, got in and pressed a button. The door opened and my feet took me to the open door, “where’s the car?” I looked at my two friends, the other two were a bit busy.
“Oh, umm, it’s in Perth.” Jamie said quietly.
“What?!” I screamed back.
“It needs a new engine, to be repainted and to get ready for the race. By the way, you may want to pack a suitcase, your leaving in…” she checked her watch, “2 hours, that’s why we came here. The truck came because we wanted to bring it I suppose.” My jaw dropped, I didn’t need to say anything.
I ran, faster than I ever have, in the door, up the stairs and into my room. “Crap!” I shouted, wrong room. I turn around and go into my spare/‘stacking everything that doesn’t go in my room’ room. I throw everything into the air and find the corner of my fluoro blue suitcase. I uncover it like it was a fossil and grabbed it. “Thank God” I said under my breath as I ran into my room.
My wardrobe got pulled to pieces as I got every item of clothing on my floor for easier viewing. “What’s your phone passcode?” a voice asked me, not really registering I said,
“1234.” I know it was terrible, but it worked. Wait a minute... that was not a chick, “Louis!” I scream to the world. I check my pockets, then all over the floor. Great, he knows the passcode and he has my phone.
After about an hour I finally have my bag packed and am ready to leave. I walk down the stairs to find that Amelie was sitting on Harry’s lap and eating his face off, not literally, but, you get the picture. Clarisse was holding Liam’s hand and sitting next to him, and the rest of them were sitting awkwardly around each other, acting suss. “Amelie Ford!” I scream (her last name being a coincidence? I think not!) She gives me the finger then continues on like nobody’s there. I was known for breaking up two people, whether it be from a fight, or other things…
I walk up to them, grab Amelie’s shirt and pull her off of Harry. “We are leaving Amelie” I say slowly, she grunted in response. “James Bond, my phone” I put my hand out and he puts it in my hand, smiling. That was the nickname I had eventually given him, he wouldn’t have it if he had introduced himself differently to me. He liked it though, because James Bond always gets the girl.
I walk out the door and throw my suitcase in the trailer. “Now, Mum should be home in about half an hour. If she finds that you have invited people over or have trashed the place, she will kill you, okay? Just because your One Direction doesn’t mean she won’t, yes? If I come home and I find that the place is trashed, I will personally hunt you down and hang your head on my wall. Good, we understand each other. The kitchen is full of food, Niall, don’t binge eat again, there’s not enough food for that. I’m trusting you to be by yourself, okay? Good.”
Louis comes up to me and gives me a bear hug, crushing my bones. “007, get off of me.” He does, and allows me to breathe. “I’m watching you all, especially you” I point to Louis. He smiles evilly. Crap, hopefully Mum would take a few days off of work to keep an eye on these guys. I jump in the truck cab and wave goodbye. Hopefully they wouldn’t trash the place. Hopefully.
Louis’ POV
I stood at the door watching her truck disappear into the distance. I sighed and walked back inside by myself, the others were already in. “Oh, Louis, already missing her mate?” Harry said in an ‘Aussie’ accent.
“You fail at being Aussie ‘mate’” I snapped back. I guess my face said everything right now, I did miss her, I think.
“I can see it on your face” he ignored my anger and started playing with my cheeks. My face was always my give away.
“Like you can talk, oh, wait, wasn’t it getting eaten off before? You knew her for legit, an hour and decided that you would make out with her, great idea! Do you even remember her name?” he closed his eyes and thought about it.
“Amelia?” I shook my head, “you don’t even know her name” I began to ignore Harry now, I kind of got used to it after a while and completely forgot he was there.
“Louis!” Liam screamed in my ear.
“What?” I said casually.
“What movie do you want to watch?” I breathed in, and let out a massive sigh.
“I don’t care” I was barely audible.
“Why so down in the dumps?” he asked, I looked at him, he knew why, but he didn’t. “It’s her, isn’t it?” I shook my head, but he knew I was lying. “What is it about her?” I took a deep breath in.
“She doesn’t like me” wow, that hit me hard.
“Yes she does…” he wanted an explanation. “Not in the way I want her to though.” He took it all in, ‘oh’ was all he said.
He walked away, he was the only one that knew when I needed space, everyone else was always in my face when I wanted them 20 meters away. I went into my room and crashed on the bed. Face first into my pillow of course, there was no other way to fall on your bed, in my world anyway. I turned around to look at the ceiling. This was the saddest I had been since Eleanor had cheated on me.
But when Codie was here, it was the happiest I had been since that day. I was laughing and being stupid and I was finally back to my normal self that I was only with Eleanor. Well that was until Codie left. I could still see her eyes, they were like the ocean. Her dark blonde hair that fell to her waist was still in my mind. I was thinking about her more than I was blinking, and she had only been gone for a matter of minutes.
I really wanted her to win. I knew she could do it. When I watched her race, she was… no words could describe it. Only she could drive like that, if she tried, she would win, for sure. I know she would. I would call her tomorrow, early in the morning. What was the time now? 1 o’clock. Maybe I would call her at… eight. Now, come up with a reason… laundry. A very valid reason. I looked at my floor, very very valid. My clothes were spread all over the floor, I could wash everyone’s clothes, that would be a good reason to call her, maybe even FaceTime.
She had my number, not that she knows it. She had the rest of the guys as well, and I now had hers. At eight, seven hours to kill. I got up slowly and went into the kitchen, what to eat? Be happy, you are too sad. I plastered a fake smile on and saw my reflection in the window. I looked ridiculous, I laughed at myself. That was better. Maybe not, I wasn’t going to be better without her here. I know she didn’t want to be with me, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t want to be with her. Does that make sense? Yes, it does.
“LOUIS! MOVIE MARATHON!” Liam screamed. I grabbed a bag of slat and vinegar chips.
“WHAT MOVIES?!” I screamed back. I ran down the stairs to the lounge room. I should have guessed really. I would have got it right.
“Toy Story! All three of them” he said smiling. Well, I have nothing else to do, and that would kill time.
Codie’s POV
We landed in Perth, it was okay, I suppose. I was happy because I was with my friends. We were going to travel some of the world together because of my racing. By the time we got to the hotel it was about 6:30 pm. I legit opened the door and my phone went off, the sci-fi noise scared the shit out of me. I looked at the screen and found that I had a text.
From; Louis ‘Bond’:
Can we FaceTime or call? Need help…
I thought about it and decided to, maybe.
To; Louis ‘Bond’:
Give me thirty minutes, need to unpack. You have crap timing by the way, I legit just walked in the door. I’ll call, talk to you then.
I dragged my suitcase to the last room in the hallway. Usually the last room was the best, so I just went straight there. “Texting your boyfriend were you?” Amelie said at the door with her suitcase.
“I am not sharing a room with anyone. And we’re not an item. Hell no. And at least we weren’t like ‘Oh my god, I just met you, but let’s make out’!” I squealed like a five year old kid with the last sentence. She gave me a huffed up look and walked to the next door.
That’s what I thought. I unpacked, I was staying here for one night, but I still packed a whole lot of stuff. You never know, I might want to stay another day. That took me about quarter of an hour, then I played my music and danced like a loony for another quarter, the last song I was halfway through. ‘How to be a Heartbreaker’ by Marina and the Diamonds. I sung the first verse at the top of my lungs. I got interrupted just after the chorus.
“This is how to be a heartbreaker,
Boys, they like a little danger,
We’ll get ‘em falling for a stranger,
A player, singing,
La, la, la, love you.
This is how to be a heartbreaker,
Boys, they like the look of danger,
We’ll get ‘em falling for a stranger,
A player, singing,
La, la, la, love you
At least I think I do-”
‘How Ya Doin?’ by Little Mix started playing at the same time. Why was that playing? Oh, crap. I paused the music and picked up the phone. “Hey, Codie speaking” I didn’t get enough time to check who it was.
“007, just wondering, what was my next mission?” I smiled. He had a good sense of humour.
“Depends on how well you do the first one” he laughed from the other side of the phone.
“Well, I need some help with this one actually…” right. “Can we FaceTime? I think you need to see the problem.” I sighed.
“Okay.”
I hung up and I called him over FaceTime. “What’s wrong Bond?” I asked seriously.
“How do you do laundry?” he turned the camera around to face the floor. There were clothes everywhere. He turned the camera back to him, he looked at me. My jaw was still open. “Codie?” I shook my head and came around.
“Okay, you want me to help you with the laundry? Why didn’t you ask before I left?” he was trying to be serious.
“Because I only just walked into my room…” right. Was I meant to believe that?
I shook my head. “What?” he asked.
“You just wanted a reason to talk to me” he hung his head.
“You got me, but I do need help with this.” I knew he did.
“You know where the laundry is right? Yes you do.” He nodded.
“Bottom floor, through the dining room.”
“Good job 007. That was a hard one. Open the lid on the washing machine and put the clothes in it.” I swear he made three, at least, trips to get all of his clothes off of the floor. He eventually got them all in, eventually.
“Now what?” he asked.
“There is a cupboard to the left, if you open it, there should be some washing powder. Get a scoop of that and put it on the clothes.” He put the phone down as he rummaged through the cupboard.
He finally found it and put the powder in. He picked the phone back up. “Yeah” he said it proudly, wow, you are doing the laundry! Clap, clap.
“Now you close the lid and I’ll tell you what buttons to press.” He nodded his head.
“Okay.” He had obviously closed the lid.
“There’s only two buttons, favourite and start. Pretty easy huh?” he took about five minutes to press the two buttons, he was so slow.
I eventually I heard the movement of the washing machine and spoke again. “You know how to hang washing out right?” he nodded, “good.” I said and went to say ‘bye’ but was interrupted.
“So, what’s going on with your racing?” he walked to the lounge room and jumped on the couch.
“You really want to know?” I asked, he nodded. Take that as a yes.
“Well, I am racing partners with Mark Winterbottom!” I squealed. I was so happy when Elysse told me that on the plane. I almost ran around and jumped out I was that excited. Hey, I thought I could fly at that point, if I was on the same team as Frosty I could do anything. He nodded for me to continue, “And, I race at 11 tomorrow morning. About 12:30 for you.” He gave me a strange look.
“What?” he said.
“Time zones?” I asked, it was a question because I wasn’t sure if he understood what I was saying.
His face didn’t change, take that as a ‘no’. “There’s about an hour and a half difference between Adelaide and Perth.” He nodded, maybe not understanding, but pretending too.
“I’ll watch you win” he said quickly. I shook my head.
“I’m not gonna win Louis…” he gave me another weird look. “I’ve been told to hold back and to get the gist of official racing for the first race. Next race I can go for gold, and I will get it. You watch the next race, you’ll see.” He nodded, hopefully getting it.
“So you’re trying to lose?”
“Yeah…” that sounded fairly stupid. It was true though, no matter how stupid it sounds. “Change of subject.” I announced, hoping he would think of something. He did, but not in the way I was hoping.
“When you get back, will you go out for coffee with me?” oh god.
“Umm, as friends?” he thought about it for a minute.
“No, I want to go out with you Codie.” Oh god.
“Louis-”
“Please, just once. Please Codie…”
“Louis, I’ve already told you, I don’t like you in that way. I don’t like coffee anyway… I’m sorry Lou.” Geez, I always hated saying no. he smiled, that was weird. “Fine, let’s make a deal.”
“Oh god Louis, what is it first?”
“Let’s have a battle-”
“A WHAT?!” I screamed, almost falling off my bed.
“Not a bloody battle you nitwit. A singing one. You know, like in Pitch Perfect. The riff-off, but our own one. If I win, you have to go on a date with me. If you win, I’ll never ask you to go out with me again.” He must be really confident to risk that. “The catch is that the theme is One Direction”
“Okay but only if you stick to one artist. It’s not fair if you’re singing your songs, you’ve performed them millions of times before.”
“Okay, who?”
“Taylor Swift, be prepared for some kick-arse. There are many things you don’t know about me Louis, and that may be your downfall…”
