Life, Cars and One Direction... Wait What?!
Chapter 43: Damn you
Codie’s POV
“Codie!” I heard Louis shout from behind me. Why did he have to sing that song? He knows about my audition, right? He knows what that song means to me, right? He knows that song saved me from myself when Melanie and Charlotte died, right?
“What is it Tomlinson?” I asked in one of the rudest tone I could come up with.
“Why are you walking away?” he answered with a question.
“You know why.” I told him while I continued walking.
“Stop, Codie.” He tried to halt me with his words. I shook my head.
“Why should I? You know what that song means to me.” I didn’t have a problem with it when it was on the video, but now I had a new experience of a fiery crash. He couldn’t ‘fix me’, only I could do that. Wait a minute… I don't even need to be fixed.
“That’s why I thought you would like it.” He told me.
“Well, you thought wrong.” I tried to say, only just managing to.
“But… Codie!” he shouted again. I kept walking in the warm, summer air. I let the sun warm me up from its position in the middle of the sky.
“No Louis.” I may have wanted him before, but something, I don't know what, has changed.
“Jamie told me that you were sleeping in my jumper.” He ran after me. “Doesn’t that mean something to you?” he asked.
“Yeah, it meant I picked up the wrong jumper.” I lied, continuing walking.
“Then why did you have it in the first place?” he asked a question. I hesitated.
“I was going to burn it.” I told the truth. Hopefully he wouldn’t pick up that little slip. He paused for a minute.
“You hesitated, and you said ‘was going to’, meaning you were, but you changed your mind. Why did you change your mind?” he picked apart my argument. Damn he could read me well. I hesitated again.
“Because…” I realised that I was going along with his side of the argument here. I thought about what I was going to say as I stood still. Then I felt tears build and I ran. I know I wasn’t supposed to, but I did. I promised the doctor I wouldn’t, but I had to.
“CODIE!” I heard Louis shout again. I turned a corner and stood in the middle of the path. I was sick of running, from everything. From Louis, the people who question who I am, and myself. I heard his footsteps from behind me and felt him grab my shoulder and turn me around to face him.
“You broke my heart Tomlinson.” I said. I was that angry I was calling him by his last name.
“Can’t you let me explain?” he had his pleading face on.
“Why? So I can come back to you and end up with another broken heart?” I asked.
“N-” I cut him off of saying ‘no’.
“You know what, damn you. Damn you Tomlinson. Damn you for making me fall in love with you. Damn you for taking my heart and ripping it in half. Damn you for keeping a half of it and stopping me from having the chance to love someone else. Damn you for being in my dreams all the time. Damn you for even thinking that I would look over this. Damn you for being so…” I tried to think of the right words, “so damn… lovable. Damn you for being half of me.” I slapped him on the face. “Damn you for making everything I see make me think of you.”
“What?” he said as I paused.
“I’m not finished yet.” I told him, trying to remember what I was going to say. “Damn you for being the only love I’ve ever known. Damn you for keeping me sane when even my friends wouldn’t be able to handle me. Damn you for being so understanding all the bloody time. Damn you for knowing what was going on in my head every single minute of every single day. Damn you for that week where you ignored me. Damn you for being there when I crashed only a few weeks ago, supporting me.”
“I am so confused.” He told me.
“Still not finished. Damn you for making me want to punch your face right now. Damn you for waking up next to Eleanor. Damn you for making me hate you so much.” I slapped his arm.
“Hey! Enough with the injuries!” he was so serious right now.
“Enough with the idiocy. Enough of the unwanted hatred. Enough of this life!” I shouted, using a different approach. “Damn you for being there when I needed you a little, and not being there when I needed you the most!” I shouted at him.
“It’s not my fault I live in England!” he shouted, now I was making him angry. “Damn you for making me angry over nothing!”
“Damn you, Tomlinson, for tearing my entire world apart.” I said before surprising myself with my actions. I grabbed the back of his head and forcefully pulled his face towards mine. Our lips connected and I let the feeling I have needed for moths wash over me. His tongue roaming my mouth as I cried. I broke apart. “Damn you, for being the only one I will be able to love.” I finished my ranting.
“You finished now?” he asked. We looked into each other’s eyes as I nodded my head. How I had missed those ocean blue irises. The ones I could get so easily lost in. He wrapped his arms around me, and I had a feeling he was crying, from his uneven breathing and the way he kept sniffing conspicuously. I wrapped my arms around him, tears falling down my cheeks. I couldn’t hold them back, and I let myself go, not holding back the tears or the sobs. I had my head buried in his neck, glad to be holding him again… glad to know he was mine again.
“God I’ve missed you Tomlinson.” I managed to say through my tears.
“I’ve missed you too… Badress.” He said. “Do you want to go to a café or somewhere, talk over this, because it was nothing what it had looked like.” He explained to me.
“Okay.” I agreed. We went to Gloria Jean’s, an awesome café that I loved, and talked. When I looked at the clock again it was quarter past six. “I have to get back to the hospital, but I’m not supposed to drive.” I told him. We decided to start again, from the start, but this time we would probably move a lot quicker compared to last attempt. A lot quicker.
“Hmm, I think I might be able to drive you.” He said sarcastically. “Only if we can watch a movie of my choice.” He told me the conditions.
“I suppose I could deal with that.” I went along with it.
“Okay, I’ll drop you off, take your Blockbuster card, get some movies and come back for you.” He told me as we got in the car. He drove me back to the boring room with a minute to spare.
“Now did you do anything I told you not to do?” the doctor asked me as soon as I walked in the door.
“Well, I didn’t watch a 3D movie and I didn’t drive.” I told him.
“So you ran?” he made sure he didn’t miss anything.
“Maybe… about twenty steps.” I told him.
“Alright. Now will you be having company tonight?” he asked me next.
“Yeah.” I said, smiling at the thought.
“Good, then the plan worked. Good night Codie.” He said walking out of the room. Wait, since when was he in on the so called ‘plan’ to get me and Louis back together, (Louis told me about it when we were at Gloria Jean’s.) Louis came back and I got changed into my pyjamas again, ready for a movie marathon movie of his choice.
“So, I have chosen Grease and…” he looked at the only DVD in his hands. “That’s about it really.” he admitted. “Of my choice anyway.” Then he showed me a bag that I suspected was full of movies. “I texted Jamie, and she gave me a lot of options of what to choose for you, so I just got all of them.” He explained.
He put the first movie in, it was ‘Pitch Perfect’. He sat on the chair next to bed and I gave him a look of ‘what are you doing?’ which he didn’t see because the lights were off and he was looking at the screen. I sighed and grabbed his shirt, pulling him onto the bed next to me. This bed was fairly big for no apparent reason, so there was room for two. He put an arm under me and watched the beginning of the movie, him wincing when the dude did the ‘man splits’.
“Really? You think that’s painful? Have you ever seen a guy do the side-splits? Tell me when you do, because then I will think they’re in pain.” I told him.
“Hey, just because we aren’t like you, doesn’t mean you can diss us because of it.” He told me.
“I wasn’t dissing youse, I was just saying how if you see a guy do the side-splits the I’ll be happy.” I told him, curling up to his side. He kissed my forehead and we watched the movie in silence. When it finished he didn’t tell me what his movie choice was. He lay next to me again and I looked at the screen. “What movie is this?” I asked.
“‘Grease’.” He told me, as if it was obvious.
“I love this movie!” I shouted.
“Really?! This was my choice of movie! I love this movie too!” for the amount of time we were together, I had never figured that out.
“Thank god you have a good taste in movies.” I told him. “And a good taste in women.” I added on the end.
“And that you have a good taste in men.” He tried to convince me.
“I’m not sure it would go that far.” I told him.
“I think it could.” He said sarcastically, playing the movie using the remote.
“Doubt it.”
“I don't.”
“I do.”
“Don’t.”
“Do.”
“Don't.”
“SHUT UP THE MOVIES STARTING!” I shouted at him. We both quoted the movie, having watched it that many times. I acted out as Sandy and he was Danny. We kissed when they did, and when it finished, we realised we had acted out the entire movie. “That is sad.” I said when the credits were on.
“It’s not sad, it’s awesome.” He corrected me.
“Obviously, how could I mess up those words?” I asked him sarcastically as he put in the next movie. We kept watching the movies, until it was three in the morning. “We should probably get some sleep.” I told him, after we watched ‘White House Down’. I loved Channing Tatum.
“Yeah, I’m-” he paused to yawn, “- tired.” He said, turning the T.V off and turning around in the dark. I knew that he was facing me on his side. I turned to face him, accidentally hitting his cheek with my hand.
“Sorry.” I whispered.
“That’s okay.” He whispered back. I giggled as he wrapped his arms around me and I did the same to him. I put my head on his chest, my forehead where his is, the side of my head on his arm. In each other’s arms we fell asleep, and it was the best I had slept in months.
***
“Morning, love.” Louis said as I opened my eyes to the light. I rubbed my eyes and found our bodies entwined, legs tangled. I looked in his blue eyes and smiled. This was the best morning I have had since I last woke up to those beautiful irises.
“Morning, love.” I replied in my croaky morning voice. I sat up quickly, resulting in the world around me spinning. “Oooo.” I said, trying to keep my head still.
“Probably a good idea to lye back down again.” Louis told me, pulling my shoulders down.
“Hello pillow. Hahe, that rhymes.” I said as my head hit the fairly solid pillow.
“More movies, madam?” Louis asked me as he stood up.
“Not before breakfast, which should be here as the form of lunch, in 5, 4, 3, 2…” I paused as I heard the trolley and the nurse coming down the hall. I heard her stop as she got to my door. “1.” I said as she opened the door. I got the free food and sat back down on the bed. I ate the food quickly and when the nurse walked back down again she collected the dishes.
There are only two things that are good about being here, free food, and you don't have to do the dishes. That is it. Louis put the next movie in, and we watched it and a few more after that. That list included ‘Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters’, ‘Footloose’ and ‘Teen Beach Movie’.
The moment we started watching a new movie we were already over watching the same rectangular shaped screen and looked at each other. His eyes sparkled in a way I hadn’t seen in ages, and I was agreeing with that sexy sparkle. We slowly moved closer together, going for a kiss. The first one was slow and sweet, as we kept breaking apart and reconnecting, they became quicker and more heated. The next thing I knew he was straddling me on the bed and I was taking off is shirt. Then…
I heard the door open. My legs and my arms worked together to kick and push him off of the bed and onto the ground, the side away from the door. I heard him crash to the ground, and tried not to laugh. It was the nurse coming in with my tea. “Hey.” I said subtly.
“Hey.” She said back.
“What did you see?” I asked trying to be inconspicuous.
“I didn’t see a thing.” She said in a tone I think was sarcastic.
“Good. I’m not really hungry so…” I trailed off, hoping she would leave.
“Okay, if you want food you will have to get your little make out friend to buy you some. Goodnight.” She said walking out of the room and closing the door.
“‘Little make out friend’?” I kind of questioned her description of Louis.
“I am not a ‘little make out friend’, I am the mothertruckin’ ‘major make out friend’.” He corrected her, even though she was gone.
“I’ll think you can move on.” I told him.
“No, I don’t think I can, ‘little make out friend’.”
“Codie!” I heard Louis shout from behind me. Why did he have to sing that song? He knows about my audition, right? He knows what that song means to me, right? He knows that song saved me from myself when Melanie and Charlotte died, right?
