Life, Cars and One Direction... Wait What?!

Chapter 39: Carrots

Louis’ POV
“GUYS START PACKING!” I shouted, hanging up Harry’s phone. I had to borrow it.
“YEAH, WHY?!” I got back.
“CAUSE WE’RE GOING TO AUSTRALIA!” I answered.
“YEAH, WHY?” They shouted back.
“I’M GOING TO SEE CODIE!” I shouted back.
“STOP IT ZEN, I’M TRYING TO CONCENTRATE! YEAH, WHY?!” they shouted again.
“BECAUSE…” I paused. “JUST BECAUSE!” I came up with.
“OKAY!” they responded. I smiled to myself, I was going to Australia. I was going to see Codie. I was on the phone with Jamie, who was on Amelie’s phone while I was on Harry’s. Apparently Codie had been sleeping in my jumper. I can’t say it like it’s something that I would be worried about, I mean, I still had all of her stuff at my house, because I hadn’t sent it back yet. Yes, I had been laying out her clothes and wrapping myself up in them.
You probably think that’s creepy and everything, but I don't care. It made me feel better. I grabbed my suitcase and packed it with my essentials, the many striped shirts and red pants, my canvas shoes and my undies, not to mention the socks I would probably never touch.
I ran down stairs again, remembering about the video. I wasn’t going to put it online until I knew that Codie wanted me back. I knew now. I uploaded it YouTube, and watched as the views slowly went up. Being me, people watched my videos as soon as I uploaded them. I knew Codie might not actually watch it, but at least I would know that I tried.
“Vas happenin’?” Zayn asked.
“I just posted it.” I told him in a sped up tone. “CARROTS!” I shouted randomly, running out of the room.
“Oh my god he’s lost it.” Zayn said behind my back.
“Well, he’s nearly six months without Codie… she was his brain.” Liam said. I watched a fly go around the room before I ran upstairs and down again, remembering that I had already packed my bag.
I clapped my hands together as I stood, not knowing what to do. When everyone was ready to go we bought the tickets for first class on the next flight to Australia. I fell asleep on the plane, next to Nialler, on a white chair.
Codie’s POV
I went to change gears and the gear box broke, falling off of the table. “Stupid shit head!” I shouted at the game. “How is this supposed to help me?” I asked Amelie.
“Hey, this is like an actual car!” she shouted at me. I looked at the ‘steering wheel’ that was sitting on a stool that was on a table, at the ‘gearbox’ that was in two pieces on top of a table, at the broken ‘pedals’ on the ground.
“This is nothing like an actual car!” I corrected her.
“It’s the best I could do alright?!” she asked me.
“Ugh, I just want to get in my actual car. I just wanna get on the track and drive on the road. I just wanna kick Whincup’s arse.” I started ranting. “I just wanna see Louis again.” I finished on a completely different note. If I was going over what I wanted, I may as well squeeze that in there.
“Babes, you will get in your actual car, you will drive on the track and drive on that road, you will kick Whincup’s arse, I don't know about you seeing Louis again.” She told me, scratching her face with her left hand. That was when I spotted it.
“Since when did you have that ring?” I asked her, pointing at it.
“Since never.” She replied, hiding her hand behind her back.
“Excuse me, but that is suspicious behaviour and I do not believe a single word you say.” I told her, going to grab her arm.
“Well you should!” she shouted.
“Amelie, we tell each other everything, this seems fairly important.” I reminded her. She sighed in defeat.
“Okay.” She pulled out her hand and showed me the ring.
“Oh. My. God. I thought Cliam would have done this by now, not Amarry.” I used the Shipper names instead of saying all four.
“I know.” She said, almost in tears.
“How did it happen?” I asked, pulling her onto the couch keeping myself from squealing like an idiot.
“Okay, it was when I was in England last week. On the last day I was there, we went out for dinner. He had made sure that we had security, but minor security. Umm, it was just like a normal dinner, no one was hassling us, no one was trying to take him off of me. It was great. Then, after that, he blindfolded me and told me that I was going to get a surprise and I wouldn’t know where we were going.” She was smiling like an idiot.
“Then, he took me into the car, and we drove somewhere, and then he took me out again. He took my shoes off for some reason, so I was barefoot, and I felt grass beneath my feet. When he did take my blindfold off, I was in a clearing in a forest. A pine forest. It smelt amazing.
“Then there was a little creek in the clearing, and we got into it. Well, foot height anyway. After that we sat down, he had a picnic blanket and chocolate covered strawberries. He took everything that I like and put it into one place. He knows I love pine trees, and creeks and chocolate covered strawberries and him. After we ate the strawberries, he kinda tensed up a little, and I asked what's wrong. He told me nothing was wrong, so I went along with it. I heard something rustle in the trees behind me and I turned to look out of instinct.
“When I turned around again, he was on one knee holding it out. I memorised what he said, ohmygosh. He was just like, ‘Amelie, no matter what the world thinks of us, I don't care. I don't care what they say about us, because I know that we are meant to be together. I don't care if people try to tear us apart, because it’s going to take an army to get me to let you go. So, I wanna know, if you would do me the honours of marrying me?’. I was speechless. I didn’t know what to say. I kinda just stared at him, and nodded slowly. Then I sped up and started ‘yes’ again and again. Jumping up and hugging him, he put the ring on my finger and we kissed.
“Then we went back to the hotel room, and did stuff.” She kept it PG for me.
“That is amazing.” I told her. “There’s something else, isn’t there?” I asked her, seeing her facial expression.
“No-eth, there-eth is not-eth.” She spoke in fake Shakespearian. Amelie doesn’t speak like that unless she’s hiding something.
“Yes there-eth is-eth.” I corrected her. “What else should I know?” I pressured her into answering. Her hand stroked her stomach and she bit her lip as she looked at me.
“I think I’m pregnant.” She told me, smiling. My jaw dropped.
“Ohmigod!” I shouted, standing up and jumping around. We both laughed as we jumped around. “Wait, you said ‘I think’, what do you mean by that?”
“Well, I’m not sure. I just don't feel like eating as much as I normally do, I swear I’ve gained weight even though I'm eating half as much as I was, I’ve been throwing up in the mornings and I really want ice cream all the time.” she explained.
“Okay…” I trailed off.
“But not just any ice cream. It has a caramel ego, like the Magnum Caramel Ego, the one that is a layer of chocolate and then caramel and them chocolate again. It has to be that one or I’ll just throw the box in the bin.” She explained.
“How long have you been feeling like this?” I asked.
“Since that night.” She answered.
“Shit Amelie, does Harry even know yet?” I suddenly stopped, serious.
“I’m not even sure.” She told me.
“We have to make sure.” I said, while grabbing my keys.
“What are you doing?” she asked me.
“There is only one way to know.” I told her, grabbing her arm and dragging her along with me. “The test of pregnancy.” I renamed it.
***
“This has got to be the longest five minutes of my life.” Amelie complained, spread out on her couch.
“Of my life as well.” I agreed.
“Is it over yet?” she asked.
“There’s still thirty seconds.” I reminded her.
“Ugh. Damn uterus.” She cursed herself.
“Hh, I wish I had that problem.” I wished.
“Sometimes it can be a good thing, other times not.” She smiled at me.
“I want to have those problems though. I want to be normal.” I told her.
“There’s no point in being normal. Anyway, you can change someone’s life, make it whole lot better than it actually is. You can adopt someone, you can have a surrogate. Either way, you’ll love them the same.” She told me, stroking my shoulder.
“Thirty seconds is up.” I told her.
“Yes.” She jumped up from the couch and ran to the bathroom. I waited. Hopefully it would be the positive sign.
“Amelie are you okay?” she came out, staring at the test. Her face was shocked, and kind of sad. Then she beamed the biggest smile.
“Yeah, I’m better than okay.” She started, showing me the test. “I’m pregnant.”
***
I watched the T.V. The news was interesting me right now. I know I don't mix well with news, but this was kinda important. I had to look this up on the YouTube. I opened a new tab and typed into the search bar.
‘Codie, I want you back’ was what I typed in. I looked at the matches and clicked on the top one. Louis sat on a chair, talking to the camera. “It wouldn’t surprise me if you don't watch this Codie, but… I want you back. Screw that, I need you back. I’ve gotten even more crazy the before. Just the other day, my answer for everything was ‘carrots’. The guys asked me ‘what day is it?’ and I was just like ‘carrots’. They asked me ‘what are you doing tonight?’ I said ‘carrots’.
So, um, yeah, I kinda need you more than want you. But I want you so bad, so that’s gotta be saying something. Yeah, so… I decided I was going to sing to you. Probably a bad idea.” He grabbed his guitar and sang the song mash-up. “Codie, I hope to see you soon.”
I put my hand on the computer screen, “I do too.” I watched the video over and over again. Learning the words, learning the song changes. I smiled, knowing his heart was still mine. I hoped he knew my heart was still his.
Louis’ POV
I opened my eyes on the airplane. I looked out the window of the airplane, seeing the ground far below. I saw the seatbelt sign flashing, saying we were gonna land soon. “Nialler wake up.” I said, shaking his shoulder. I should know by now that doing that, ain’t gonna work.
I ‘hi-fived’ his face, and that woke him instantly. “What the hell?!” he shouted.
“Carrots.” I whispered creepily.
“Okay.” He said in a tone that was kind of like what they use in movies, when they’re talking to a crazy man that they don't want to kill them.
“Put your seat belt on, we’re going to land.” I said in the same tone as before. We landed soon after that and I put my sunglasses on, forgetting that it was summer in Australia, I was still wearing trackies from England. I realised that I should have changed when I took a step out of the plane.
“SHIT!” I shouted a bit louder than anticipated. I ran back onto the plane and got changed into shorts and a tank top within ten seconds. I had packed them in a bag, apparently having some idea of what was going to happen. “That’s better.” I said when I walked out again. I followed the guys out and we got our suitcases, looking for the person who was going to be picking us up.
“Oi, retards, over here!” I heard a familiar voice shout.
“That’s not very nice, you stupid carrot.” I replied when we got to Jamie.
“Haha.” She said sarcastically, “I don't care.” She said seriously. “Right I have a van kind of thing, seven seater. I’d prefer it if I sat in the front with someone.” She said, flicking her keys around her finger. “Hi Zayn.” She greeted him nicely.
“Vas happening?” he asked.
“Nothing much, doing well thanks, I think.” There was something going on in their eyes. Something that didn’t seem right, it didn’t seem right because they split up. That look, isn’t normal because… it’s not normal. “You?” she shortened the question.
“Well thanks.” He responded, giving her a wink. She shook her head at him. Okay, what was going on here?
“Harry, you’ll be going to Amelie’s house. Liam you’ll go to Clarisse’s. The rest of you will go to the hotel. Now I have booked it out in my name, so if there are any extra expenses, you will be paying, understood?” she instructed while she drove. We all nodded. “Good, because I went through a lot of shit for you Louis. Your plan had better f*cking work.” She said bluntly. “I also believe that Amelie has some news for you Harry.” She told him, kicking him out of the car.
Not literally kicking, just telling him to get out very sternly. Next to get out was Liam, and then we were all dropped off at the hotel. “Now, for this to work I had to book myself in as well, so there will be four people in this hotel room. There are only two double beds and I’ve bags one already.” She explained.
“Why didn’t you say that we needed a different each?” I asked her.
“Because it’s cheaper for two rooms with double beds then four rooms with single beds, kay? Also, two of you guys will have to act gay for the plan to work, someone will have to pretend to be with me as well.” She told us. I looked at Niall, from the looks from before between Jamie and Zayn, I think we were going to be the gay couple.
“Oh… carrots.” I held back my swearing. “This is so not going to work.” I added on the end.
“Yes it will. Alright here we go.” Jamie said, taking Zayn’s hand and pulling him into the hotel. She went to the front desk.
“How may I help you today?” the receptionist asked.
“I’m Jamie Grey, I booked a room.” Jamie answered.
“That would be a room for four, yes?” the receptionist checked.
“Yep, that would be the one.” Jamie responded.
“Great, here’s your key. You are room 32 on floor 12. Thank you for choosing to stay with us.” The receptionist said. Jamie took the key and said thank you, pulling her suitcase to the elevator. When we got into the hotel room we figured out who would be sleeping where. Jamie was apparently with Zayn, and Niall and I would be together.
“You know you guys didn’t have to act gay, it was just for my amusement, right?” Jamie said before we went to bed. I couldn’t sleep, knowing that I would be seeing Codie tomorrow kept me awake. I heard Zayn and Jamie talking, they had broken up because of Zayn’s smoking. Since then he had been trying to quit. He’s been doing well, I’m sure that one day he would. Maybe he was doing it to get Jamie back.
That actually made sense. That could explain why Jamie had greeted him so nicely, why Zayn had winked at her, why she had smiled while she shook her head. I kept thinking about it, and the more I did, the more it made sense. The more it made sense the more I thought it was actually happening. The more I thought it was actually happening, the less I thought about the entire thing.
I was confusing myself.
Okay, watch T.V. and less confuse myself. Okay. I turn the T.V. I see the feet of someone walking towards the camera, as it pans up the person stops and I recognise the face immediately. She was wearing her racing suit, her helmet under her arm. “So, if you don't know me, I’m Codie. I’m back, and I’m gonna kick some butt.” She said. It must be an advertisement for the Clipsal 500.
“Watch Codie as she takes back her crown at the Clipsal 500. Sparks will fly as she makes her long awaited return to racing.” The voice-over said, it was a guy’s voice. It talked while it showed Codie racing.
“Come on Adelaide, get behind me, I need your support. I want you, track side.” She says, finishing the ad. Wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow you see her. Tomorrow you will change your life.
Change, change your life
Take it all
We gonna stick together
Know we’ll get through it all
Change, change your life
Take it all
Oh, quit going through my head. Okay, tomorrow, you will win back the love of your life.
