Life, Cars and One Direction... Wait What?!
Chapter 33: That could have ended in disaster
Codie’s POV
I switched the radio station, again. There was legitimately nothing playing that was worth listening to. Louis sat on the passenger seat, getting annoyed at my switching of stations constantly.
“Can’t you just choose one and stick with it?” he eventually asked, sinking down in his chair but getting stuck with his seatbelt.
“No, because all of them are crap.” I answered, changing the station again.
“Oh my God!” He shouted and had spaz out on his chair, making me swerve while I was driving.
“That could have ended in disaster!” I shouted back to him.
“Do you doubt my abilities?” he asked.
“Wait, you have abilities now?” I spat at him.
“Well, excuse me then.” He said in a bitchy tone, going along with my argument. “Jeez, she must be on her monthly…” he whispered into the side window in an off tone.
“Dude, I don't have a monthly.” I reminded him.
“I know that, I was just going along with what I thought I should have said.” He tried to convince me, and himself.
“That makes, no sense.” I quoted Mantis from ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’. I’m good with the animated movie quotes.
“It does too.” He defended himself.
“Does not.” I bit back.
“Does too.”
“Does not.”
“Does too.”
“Does not.”
“Does t-” He paused as he listened to the song. “Man this is our song.” He turned the volume up and looked at me. He meant his sentence literally. Not as in ‘ooh, it’s the song that we sing to each other’, but as in, ‘we sing this song together and released it as a single even though it’s a cover of another song.’ We had changed the song, to suit us. It went from a solo to a duet. I’ll make sure you know who’s singing what bit. By the way, the song is ‘All of Me’ originally by John Legend.
Le Me
“What would I do without your smart mouth
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out
Got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down
What's going on in that beautiful mind
I'm on your magical mystery ride
And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright”
Le both of us
“My head's under water
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind”
Le Louis
“'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all, all of me
And you give me all, all of you, oh
How many times do I have to tell you
Even when you're crying you're beautiful too
The world is beating you down, I'm around through every mood
You're my downfall, you're my muse
My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues
I can't stop singing, it's ringing, in my head for you”
Le both of us

Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all, all of you, oh
Give me all of you
Cards on the table, we're both showing hearts
Risking it all, though it's hard”

When we finished we both realised that we had been singing along with it. I had a weird feeling in my stomach, I mean I had heard my own voice over the radio. I shivered at that thought.
“Louis, do you ever get used to that?” I asked him, before blinding myself with the reflection off of my ring.
“Used to what?” he asked back.
“Hearing yourself over the radio?” I explained further.
“Not really. It’s still weird for me.” he said putting his hand on my shoulder.
“Alright, I just wondering.” I gripped the wheel tighter, I really missed racing. I just wanted to get behind the wheel of my V8 car and drive it around a course again. I wasn’t even halfway through the year yet, I wasn’t supposed to be bored. I was meant to be ready for more relaxing and Paris and travelling the world.
When we reached our destination (Louis’, I mean, our house), we got out and got the food out of the boot. When we started taking them in Louis started singing a song to me, well if it was to someone else I would probably shoot him. It may not have been the best song, but you know…
“Every time that you get undressed
I hear symphonies in my head
I wrote this song just looking at you oh, oh
Yeah the drums they swing low
And the trumpets they go”
He tried doing the trumpet bit in a capella style, it didn’t work.
“Is it weird that I hear
Violins whenever you’re gone?”
“No, that’s kind of expected really.” I but in.
“Is it weird that your ass
Remind me of a Kanye West song?”
“Yeah it is a little.” I but in again, I think I was gonna do this for every question he sings.
“Is it weird that I hear
Trumpets when you’re turning me on?”
“Yes, yes it is.”
“Is it weird that your bra
Remind me of a Katy Perry song?”
“No, that’s just f*cked up!” I shouted.
“Every time that you get undressed
I hear symphonies in my head
I wrote this song just looking at you ooh, oh
Yeah the drums they swing low
And the trumpets they go”
“If you dare sing the next line I will kill you, which would be more of a slap to the face.”
“Is it weird that I hear
Angels every time that you moan?”
I slapped him square on the face. “Hey, what was that for?” he asked me next.
“I told you not to sing it and you did.” I told him, watching his face slowly show a red hand print.
“Why can’t I sing it?” he asked as he found his reflection in the mirror.
“Because I don't like it. I don't want to know what goes on in your head all the bloody time, okay?” I told him with a pissed off tone.
“Okay. Can I continue singing now?” he asked me. I nodded and told him ‘yes’.
“Is it weird that your eyes
Remind me of a Coldplay song?”
“No, that seems pretty normal actually.”
“Is it weird that I hear
Trumpets when you’re turning me on?
Is it weird that your bra
Remind me of a Katy Perry song?”
“Haven’t you asked me that already?” I butted in with a question.
“Yes I think I have.” He agreed with me while putting some apples in the fridge.
“Every time that you get undressed
I hear symphonies in my head
I wrote this song just looking at you oh
Oh yeah
Every time that you get undressed
I hear symphonies in my head
I wrote this song just looking at you oh, oh
Yeah the drums they swing low
And the trumpets they go”
“Thank you for that beautiful song right there.” I said, putting a hand to my heart.
“You want to know the weird thing about it?” he asked me yet another question.
“What?” I put my hands around his neck and looked into his eyes. He looked back into mine and put his hands on my waist.
“That is exactly what I think about you.” He told me, kissing my nose.
“I’m not sure how to take that…” I trailed off.
“Just take it as a compliment.” He told me.
“Hmm, okay then.” Our lips connected and the world drowned out. We held together for as long as we could, glad to be together, and not wanting to worry about the future. What’s gonna happen when I have to go back? We’ll be opposite sides of the world, how are we supposed to be together?
The phone rang, so I broke off and grabbed it. I answered and had a quick conversation with the person on the other end. When it finished I looked at Louis.
“What’s going on?” He asked me, seeing my face.
“I’m going away for tonight. I’ll be back early tomorrow morning, don't worry.” I told him as I went to our room and grabbed a bag, shoved some pyjamas, deodorant and my toothbrush and toothpaste. Not to mention one of Louis’ jumpers that I would wear tomorrow.
“Umm, what?” he asked, confused at the door.
“I’m leaving for one night, I will be back tomorrow. Okay, bye, love you!” I grabbed my phone and keys to my rented car, I decided to not get my Ferrari over here, it took too long. By the time I got in the car and was driving off, Louis was still standing there with a stupid look on his face, still confused.
***
I drove into the driveway again, I had just spent the night in a hotel in some place I couldn’t be bothered remembering. I was wearing the jumper I stole from Louis and I could smell his scent on it. I got my bag and my phone and keys and then walked inside. It was still 7:30 in the morning, so I was expecting Louis to still be in bed and fast asleep.
“LOUIS I’M HOME!!!” I shouted as I got a juice box out of the fridge, for breakfast. When he didn’t respond I went upstairs and to our room.
I opened the door and looked inside, when I saw what was in there I turned, leaving the door open and walked downstairs in complete shock. I grabbed my bag again, my wallet and everything else that I could get that wasn’t in our room.
I ripped the necklace he gave me off and put it on the table, as well as my engagement and promise rings. They all meant nothing now. He would get the message later, when he finds them. I didn’t bother with a note, or anything of the sorts. I drove out of the driveway again, this time knowing I would never come back. I thought about where I would stay the night, until I got a plane ticket back home. I knew this would happen. I just hoped it wouldn’t.
Louis should have known what would happen if he did that.
Now, Louis and I are nothing.
We will never be anything again.
