Chapter 30: Marry me? Please?
Louis’ POV (One year later…)
“Codie, will you marry me?” I practiced the words in front of the mirror. “Yes of course I will.” I said in a girly voice. “You really need to get your act together. If you’re going to do this, you really need to get your act together. You’ve been together for nearly, mainly, almost two years, all it’s gonna take is 20 seconds of courage.” Today was the day. Today I was going to ask her. I knew for sure that this was it. I could spend the rest of my entire life with her. Whether we had kids or not didn’t worry me.
“Man, just make sure that you don’t stuff up. No matter what you do, don’t stuff up.” I kept telling myself. I heard a knock at the door. I froze my steps. It happened again.
“Louis! Open the door! I need to talk to you!!!” I heard a familiar girl’s voice through the door, it wasn’t Codie though. Their accent was British. I went to the door and opened it.
“Eleanor?” I asked the fairly obvious person right in front of me.
“Louis, I miss you.” She said, tears building up in her eyes.
“Go away.” I said, going to shut the door.
“Why? Lou-bear, I want you back.” She told me.
“I don’t want you, I have Codie now. I’m going to ask her to marry me, and we’re going to be together for the rest of our lives. You broke me, you broke my heart. It took me ages to get over you. I finally have, and I want nothing to do with you.”
“But Lou-bear, I love you.” She tried to convince me.
“One, it’s been almost two years since we broke up. Two, you cheated one me. Three, stop calling me Lou-bear, my name is Louis and we are no longer together. Four, I told you ‘I love you’ so many times, I thought I got it through to you.” Great, now I was close to crying. “Five, I have Codie. She’s not going to do to me what you did. She will stay loyal to me as I will stay loyal to her. We don’t want anyone else, just ourselves and our friends. You are not either of them.” I told her, shutting the door on her foot.
“Lou-bear-” she started.
“I TOLD YOU NOT TO CALL ME THAT!” I shouted at her.
“Just give me a second chance.” She told me.
“No.” how many times did I need to tell her?
“Why not?” she pleaded.
“Because we finished a long time ago. We are never getting back together Eleanor, now go away.” I said sternly, like I was telling off a dog.
“Well maybe you should have been there for me when I needed you!” she shouted back. “Then I wouldn’t have cheated on you.” She told me.
“Excuse me?” I asked her.
“You heard me. If you weren’t always away on tour then maybe this shit wouldn’t have happened.” She explained to me.
“What? You knew exactly what you would be getting into with me. You knew I was going to be busy. Codie and I don’t even live in the same country and we’ve been fine, our bond is stronger than the one I had with you.” I started. “I told Codie that if she didn’t want to keep going then we didn’t have to, I told her I would be touring the world for near entire years. I told her exactly what I told you. She accepted that, knowing what she was getting into. She hasn’t cheated on me, never will. I love her three times as much than I ever loved you.” I know it seemed a little harsh, but it had to be said.
“No, you’re just saying that. You just want me to go away because I make you feel weird, stir up feelings that you haven’t felt in ag-”
“Shut up Eleanor, as long as I have Codie, I don’t need you.” I finally slammed the door on her and sat down on the couch. She hadn’t done something like that before, what was wrong with her? I checked the clock. Time to go.
I got in my Lamborghini and drove to the lake we were going to have lunch at. It was almost as blue as Codie’s eyes. Almost. Alright, nowhere near it. The sun sparkled on the slightly rippling water. It was beautiful. When Codie got there I told her about Eleanor.
“That slut.” She stated simply as she lay on her back next to me. We had talked for hours, until the stars had come out. We lay in silence, a good silence. She started singing for some random reason.
“I need another story
Something to get off my chest
My life gets kind of boring
Need something that I can confess
‘Till all my sleeves are stained red
From all of the truth that I’ve said
Come by it honestly I swear
Thought you saw me wink, no
I’ve been on the brink, so
Tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
I’m sick of all the insincere
I’m gonna give all my secrets away
This time
Don’t need another perfect lie
Don’t care if critics ever jump in line
I’m gonna give all my secrets away
My god
Amazing that we got this far
It’s like we’re chasing all those stars
Those drivers driving big black cars
And every day I see the news
All the problems that we could solve
‘cos when a situation rises
Just write it into an album
Send it straight to gold
But I don’t really like my flow, no, so
Tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
I’m sick of all the insincere
I’m gonna give all my secrets away
This time
Don’t need another perfect lie
Don’t care if critics ever jump in line
I’m gonna give all my secrets away
Oh.
Got no reason
Got no shame
Got no family
I can blame
Just don’t let me disappear
I’mma tell you everything
Tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
I’m sick of all the insincere
I’m gonna give all my secrets away
This time
Don’t need another perfect lie
Don’t care if critics ever jump in line
I’m gonna give all my secrets away
So tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
I’m sick of all the insincere
I’m gonna give all my secrets away
This time
Don’t need another perfect lie
Don’t care if critics ever jump in line
I’m gonna give all my secrets away
All my secrets away
All my secrets away.”
Well, that was really random.
Codie’s POV
“What did you sing that for?” Louis asked me as we lay next to each other on the damp grass. We could only see by the light of the moon and our car headlights.
“Because I was bored.” I answered.
“Really?” he asked me.
“Yes, really.” He stood up, holding out his hand to help me up. I took it and he pulled me up and into a hug, we started slow dancing to the beat of our hearts. There was something weird going on here, he seemed stiff. Nervous about something maybe? What was it though? “What’s up?” I asked. Better to get things out of the way and into the open air then to keep them inside.
“Nothing. Nothing is up, nothing is out of the ordinary. Everything is fine.” He said, trying to convince himself more than anyone else.
“You sure?” he broke away from me and started pacing back and forth, mumbling to himself.
“Don’t move.” He pointed to me.
“No one else is here, I doubt you’d be telling yourself not to move.”
“Hah, you’re so funny.” He said a little sarcastically. I did as he told me to. Standing still and waiting as he went to his car.
“Dadum, dee da lamba. Tatee leera gopa tooma vora calucoo.” I started saying random shit to myself in a musical tone.
“Okay, calm down. Be calm, very calm. Do not loose self-control and do not fail.” He spoke to himself when he came back.
“What are you doing Louis?” I asked him before he looked me straight in the eyes. I played with the Promise Ring he gave me only a year ago. I had been waiting and waiting and waiting for him to propose.
“Okay, 20 seconds Louis, 20 seconds.” He pep talked to himself. He turned back around to face me and I saw the crazy glint in his eyes.
“I don’t think I like that look.” I told him. He held my hands as he talked.
“Codie, from the first day I met you I knew we had something. What that something was, I didn’t know back then, but I do now. I fell for you within that first week of me being at your house, the one when we weren’t even going out yet. I knew that I had to get you to be mine, and when I finally did I told myself to never let you go. The thing is, I don’t even deserve you.” He hadn’t lost eye contact with me yet. “You should have someone better than me.”
“Louis, what are you doing? If this is a break up I ain’t going to go with it. I love you Louis, and we are supposed to be together, I can feel it.” I said to him.
“Good because I would probably end up dead on the side of a road.” Instead of the break up I thought was going to happen he got down onto one knee.
“Not another Promise Ring, I already have one.” I reminded him. He shook his head.
“Codie, I love you with all of my heart and the rest of me as well. I know I said that last time I did this, but this time I know for sure. This time I know that I’ll never let you go, ever. What I’m really trying to say is…” he trailed off.
“What?” I asked him.
“Marry me? Please?” he pulled out a hinged box and opened it. Inside was a beautiful ring, diamonds on the silver ring, not to mention the big sapphire in the middle.
“What’s with you and buying silver with sapphires on it?” I asked him.
“It matches your eyes. And why do you always space out and ask a question before you answer the important one that I asked?” he answered and asked.
“Because, you should know the answer.” I told him.
“What would the answer be?” he was checking.
“Of course I will.” I finally answered him. He slid the ring onto my finger before he stood up again and crashed our lips together. “Why would I say no?”
Well, that was really random.
