Life, Cars and One Direction... Wait What?!

Chapter 26: Catch me

Louis’ POV
It’s been two and a half (almost three) weeks since I gave Codie her necklace, she hasn’t taken it off since I gave it to her. For some reason nothing much has really happened, Codie and I have had a few arguments, but that’s fairly normal now, she raced in the Gold Coast 600 (she came second, behind Whincup… again.), we’ve had a few concerts and we had our one month anniversary kind of thing. We still haven’t broken up yet, so that’s a bonus. At the moment we were sitting at the doctors/hospital, it was time to finally remove my cast.
“You now, it’s gonna be weird without your cast.” Codie said to me.
“How?” I asked, hugging her with my right arm as she sat next to me.
“Because I’m used to it now. I’ve been standing on your right side to hold your hand for six weeks. From now on, I will go on your left, and if I’m not please remind me.” She explained.
“I will try, but you know, shit happens.” I told her.
“Well, if you want us to be together, shit won’t happen.” She threatened me.
“Oh, really? What about shit happening, and it’s your fault?” I asked staring into her eyes.
“You should know by now that if it applies for you, it doesn’t for me.”
“Whoops, forgot for a minute there.” I told the truth.
“Don’t let it happen again.” She said in a sarcastic voice.
“I’ll try, no guarantees.” I told her.
“You better bloody well try.” She punched my arm.
“I will, it just might be too much for me to handle.” I told her sarcastically.
“Well, you’ll just have to-” she stopped halfway through with a blank face.
“Codie? Hello? Earth to Codie? Codie can you hear me?” I was waving my hand in front of her face.
“You’re leaving on Friday.” She said, looking like she was gonna tear up.
“Holy shit, I am.” I had completely forgotten about leaving. Completely.
“Why do you have to go?” she asked me.
“Because, I have to see my family. All of my little sisters are waiting for me, so is my mother. I do have a life out of One Direction, a very small one, but I still have one.” I told her.
“Meh.” She told me, resting her head on my shoulder and closing her eyes. We sat in complete silence for about five minutes before I was called in to get my cast off. Heh, cast ‘off’… party ‘on’.
***
When we got back to Codie’s house we watched a movie with the boys and waited until they left. As soon as they were out the door, Codie was gone to the kitchen to get some lunch, and I followed. Her parents weren’t here… again. We were home alone. Well, not alone, we were with each other. If I was right, the boys were staying out at a hotel, or maybe that was me and Codie. Meh, either way we were alone until tomorrow. I’m not expecting anything to happen, apart from watching movies and eating some fairly unhealthy food.
“What’s happening with the boys?” I asked Codie as she was facing the cupboard. She froze, her hand near her mouth. She slowly shrugged her shoulders. “What are you doing?” I asked her next.
“Nock scuffeen emmy chocwatt.” She said, facing me with something filling her cheeks.
“Would that translate too ‘not scoffing any chocolate’?” I asked her. She shook her head while trying to subtly eat the chocolate. When she finally swallowed the chocolate she spoke.
“No, it didn’t. I was not eating chocolate, no matter what you think, it was definitely a piece of toast. With vegemite.” She told me.
“So that’s why there’s no toaster out, or vegemite… or a knife, or butter?” I reasoned.
“Exactly.” She said, then hitting herself on the head. “I’m such a bad liar.”
“That’s what I love about you.” I said, picking her up and swinging her around, not worried about her slipping out of my grasp. Without my cast, there was no way of me dropping her.
“I have a feeling we’ve done this before.” She said after I put her down.
“Nope, you see I don’t have my cast now, so I haven’t done any of this stuff with you before like this.” I explained.
“You do have a point there.” She agreed with me.
“Yes, yes I do.” I said putting my hand to my heart.
“Don’t push it.” She said, shoving my shoulder.
“Well, don’t push me.” I told her, pushing her back.
“Fine, I won’t get you lunch. I’m going to watch a movie.” She finalised that by walking out of the room.
“Hey, where do you think you’re going?!” I shouted as I ran after her and tackled her from behind. Not full on tackled, but hugged her from behind and picked her up. “You need to make me lunch.” I whispered into her neck before kissing it.
“LOUIS! OH MY GOSH, THAT TICKLES!” she shouted while laughing at the same time.
“The kissing or me talking in your ear?” I asked her after her feet were on the ground and my arms were by my sides.
“The second one, it makes my hip go all weird.” She told me, which was a bad idea.
“Haha, I know your weakness!” I shouted, pointing at her.
“Holy shit.” She said before turning and running through the house.
“I WILL GET YOU CODIE! I WILL MAKE YOU MAKE ME LUNCH!” I shouted so that it could be heard through the whole house. I got a text from Codie, not wanting to give away her hiding spot.
From; Codie:
How about a game? If you can’t catch me in an hour, I don’t make you lunch. If you do, then lunch will be made.
Heh, this should be easy.
Codie’s POV
This should be easy. I know this house like the back of my hand, better actually. How would I go about this though?
“Alright Codie! You’re on! One more thing though! If I win, I get to choose what we do tonight, if I lose, then you do!” Louis shouted through the house. I grabbed my phone and sent him a text message saying ‘okay’. Okay, my plan must take action for me to win. Start closing the curtains on the top floor, then the bottom. After that, turn off the power to the house so he can’t see. Perfect.
I start moving around to my room, slowly. Double checking every room before I’d go into it. I heard footsteps at the end of the hall, crap. I snuck into Louis’ room as silently as I could before I made sure he wasn’t going to find me here. Hmm, his clothes would have to do. I changed from my bright coloured clothing into a pair of his black trackies and a hoodie to cover my face and hair. To be completely safe, I put on a pair of black socks too.
When I had sat at the door for five minutes to hear footsteps, but instead heard silence, I started closing all of the curtains on the top floor. I got to the top of the stairs. Shitake mushrooms. This was the creakiest part of the house, the stupid stairs. Skip number five, skip number five. I started creeping down the stairs, against the railing. Where was he? Seriously, he cannot move that quietly that I can’t hear him.
“Where are you Codie? Come out come out wherever you are.” I heard him say from the top floor. He sounded like a creep. No time for walking down. I’ve always wanted to try doing this though. I sat my butt on the railing and took my feet off the ground. I balanced myself out before I pushed myself down, sliding the entire way. As soon as I got to the bottom, I did my signature silent run to Mum and Dad’s room. I closed the curtains in there before going into all of the boy’s rooms and closing the curtains in them.
I took a few minutes to try and find out where Louis was, when I heard some floorboards creak from upstairs, he seriously still thought I was up there. I went out and closed the rest of the curtains on the bottom floor, then ran to the power box and switched off all of the lights in the house. Hopefully Louis didn’t know where it was. I heard him scream as soon as I flicked the switch. I silently laughed to myself before creeping back into the kitchen and finding my hiding spot. I grabbed out my phone and checked the time. Hmm, time for a new text message I think.
To; ‘Love’:
Hope you have a trick up your sleeve, half an hour has passed, another half to go. At the moment you have no idea where I am. You won’t find me, I forbid it. Good luck anyway.
Half an hour in, only half to go, breathe Codie, breathe. You have never lost a game of murder in the dark. You never will. Just keep calm, be silent like an owl. Be yourself. I love my hiding spot, no one has ever found me here. That could change though. My heart sounded as loud as Louis’ footsteps. Like an elephant, I know it’s ridiculous but it really freaked me out. My breathing was another one of the things I could hear, and it was really loud. Don’t let him catch you, don’t. Shit, footsteps in the room. Don’t move, breathe through your nose. Movement always gives you away, always.
“Codie, where are you? You’re running out of places to hide.” He told me, I didn’t take it seriously. “I know where you’ve been, you leave a trail. The curtains, your clothes, footprints.” Like I’ve been leaving footprints. Anyway, the trail I left was on purpose, so you have a chance. Idiot. “Hmm, maybe you’re in here.” He said randomly, but really close to my hiding spot. So you know, my hiding spot is underneath the island bench… in the cupboards… in the kitchen. They’ve always been empty, so, yeah. I thought to myself one time, I’ll just hide in there, I have ever since. There wasn’t any light creeping in, so I doubt he was smart enough to be using his phone. Maybe he got the rules of the game I was playing. No torches, no lights.
I heard him open the cupboard door, and I held my breath. Because my eyes had adjusted to the bleak light, I could make the faint outline of a hand come in the cupboard. I was lying against the back wall of the cupboards, so I was on my side. He was not going to find me, well that’s what I’m telling myself anyway.
His hand was legitimately two millimetres away from me when he took it out of the cupboard and closed it, before walking away. I let out my breath and lay there on my back for a few minutes, trying to comprehend what just happened. He missed me by the width of a hair. I curled up in foetal position and let my heart slow down before getting out and starting to run through the house again. I decided that if I follow him, then he wouldn’t be able to find me, I just have to make sure I’m not obvious. Stick to the extra shadows, stay in the dark. Hood on and cord done up tight. Try to keep your face hidden, skin glows when there’s only a little amount of light.
I hid again after writing a note that I stuck on the door with an attached glow stick. He was probably wondering how it got there without him knowing. The note said that there was only five minutes left before the hour was up and I turned the lights back on and gave myself away, five more minutes. Five more minutes of being stealthy, like the dwarf that died on Once Upon A Time, the T.V. show. It was smart of him to get hit with an arrow, that was how he died right?
When the five minutes was up I turned the lights back on and looked casual in the lounge room, watching the start of a movie. I was still in his clothes, but I didn’t want to take them off. They smelt like him, and it felt like he was there when he wasn’t. I know it probably sounds tacky, but it made me feel safe during that hour. Usually when I play that game I feel scared shitless. Don’t ask me why, I just do. But this time I felt completely normal, like I was walking through the house during the day.
“Can I have my clothes back?” he asked me when he saw me in them.
“You’ll have to take them off of me.” I told him. “Don’t get any ideas.” I pointed my finger at him, wondering what he was thinking.
“Whoa, okay.” He said before sitting next to me. I leant on him and he wrapped his arm around me. I was wearing his clothes and he was right here. I can’t believe he’s leaving on Friday. It’s Saturday, that gives me less than six days to be normal with him, until he goes back to Britain. “Why are we watching an animated movie?” he asked me next.
“Why wouldn’t we be?” I asked him back.
“Because Liam’s not here.” He answered me.
“So…” I wanted a bit more than that.
“I think I’ve figured it out.” He said randomly.
“What?” I think I just lost the conversation.
“You and Liam are related.”
“What?” I continued asking.
“You both love animated movies.” He explained for me.
“Because that’s definitely genetic.” I said sarcastically.
“Definitely.” He agreed with me.
Louis’ POV
When the movie finished we watched another one, and another... and another. By the time we finished watching movies Codie went to the kitchen to get food. After sitting by myself for a few minutes I decided to go to the kitchen as well, instead I bumped into Codie in the hallway. “What did you have to eat?” I asked her. I’ve been trying to prevent her from eating chocolate all day, so far it hasn’t worked. She gave me some shifty eyes.
“Wasn’t chocolate.” She said in a weird tone. “Not at all.”
“Prove it then.” I said, grabbing her waist and pulling her towards me.
“How? I ate it, I can’t get it out again.” She said after putting her arms around my neck.
“I haven’t had my kiss yet for today.” I told her.
“What?” she asked me. I’ve been making her say that a lot today. I put my lips to hers before she could say anything else, then I pulled away.
“You taste like chocolate.” I told her.
“Meh.” She said pulling me in again. We kept kissing, my tongue entwining with hers, wanting more from each other. We moved in sync together. This wasn’t like any other time we’ve done this. This time I could feel myself pushing her for more, and she was responding the way I wanted her too. I think I knew where this was going. I felt breathless as she jumped onto my hips, wrapping her legs around me. I stopped for only a second to ask a short question as I felt myself sub-consciously walking to my room.
“Are you sure?” I managed to say before I went to kiss her neck. I felt her breathing against me heavily, and her moan from my actions. I knew she was making the decisions, we would only do this if she wanted to. If she wouldn’t want to, I wouldn’t either.
“Yeah, don't stop.” I barely heard her answer over my longing. I connected our lips. This was the first time for her, and I wanted it to be good for her.
“I love you.” I said quickly, looking into her eyes. My stomach was filled with butterflies, a good butterflies that were weird. Lust feels weird.
“I love you too.” She quickly but in. Even now she had to have the last word.
“No more talking?” I asked. I knew the answer as I dropped her on my bed. I took of the jumper she was wearing, only to find her bright green shirt. Damn she was wearing so many layers. Her eyes had a weird sparkle in them that I have never seen before. I kissed her neck again, finding the right spot on it. Her moans only made me want to keep going.
“Agreed.” She said, pulling my head to hers as I straddled her on the bed. She took my shirt off before I did the same to her.
