Chapter 17: Codie?
Codie’s POV
“Where did the medication go?” I asked Louis, I had a feeling he had taken it away from my room.
“Hello to you as well Codie.” He said in response.
“Yes, hello. I’ve been to my room and my pain killers are not there, so, where are they?” I got to the point.
“Congratulations on coming second in your race. Umm, I don’t know where the pain killers are.”
“Thank you. YOU LOST MY PAIN KILLERS?!” I shouted the last part.
“Yes, I love you too. No, I didn’t lose them, I just put them in a very safe place.” Louis told me. I licked my lips, I was so thirsty, but I wasn’t having a drink without pain killers for my headache. It wasn’t just a little headache, it’s like my brain grabbed a knife and decided to stab itself non-stop. That sounds suicidal…
“I know you love me. You put them in such a safe place that no one can find them?” to anyone else this would seem weird. It was a bit difficult having two conversations at once, well, with a headache.
“What was your plane trip like? Maybe I could remember where the drugs were.” He continued.
“The plane trip was, okay I suppose. You better bloody well remember where the drugs are, or I will kill you.”
“That’s good. I think I remember where the drugs are.”
“I know it’s good. You better not be lying about the drugs, or I will personally hunt you down-”
“And hang my head on your wall, I get the picture.” He finished the conversations as he ran off to the kitchen. I followed him slowly, moving too quickly would probably make me fall over.
“AHA!” I hear from the bottom floor kitchen. He found them behind a box of cereal, don’t ask me how they got there, I didn’t ask him because I didn’t care, I just wanted my headache to die in a hole.
“Thank you.” I said after I downed a glass of orange juice and two Panadols.
“That’s alright. Can I have my hello kiss now?” Louis asked.
“Yeah, okay.” I leant in and we had a short kiss, because we were interrupted.
“Get a room!” Zayn shouted at us.
“That’s what this is, isn’t it? Anyway, we were here first.” I said, making a point.
“But this is a public room. Everyone walks through here, everyone comes in here to get food.” He was trying to one up me.
“Zayn, honey, this is my house, this is my kitchen, you are my guest. I have kicked you out before, there’s nothing stopping me from doing it again.” I smiled at him. That shut him up, and made him leave the room. I don’t know why, but I started laughing.
“What are you laughing at?” Louis asked me as he gave me a weird look.
“The fact that Zayn thought he could win an argument against me.” I answered.
“Why would he think that? It’s a little bit stupid of him, eh?”
“Yes, it was. Hope you never decide to have an argument with me, because you will lose.” I warned him.
“I know I would love.”
“Exactly my point. Now what’s happening tonight?” I asked, wondering if I should make plans with the back of my eyelids.
“Well, we don’t have a concert tonight, we do tomorrow though, and you will be coming by the way. There is nothing to do.” I shook my head, there’s always something to do.
“What do we do when there’s nothing to do?!” I ask-shouted.
“Umm?” it was a question, I could tell.
“Watch movies, you ninny.” I reminded him.
“Knew that.” He lied.
“Well don’t forget it. We should have an entire night planned out, like board games, and games on the Wii and the X-Box, and movies. That is a very good idea, thank you for the back-up there Louis.” He was staring at me blankly, it was a very intelligent look… not.
“What?” He had not heard anything of what I just said, had he?
“We will organise a games and movie night.” I said very slowly.
“Right then, let’s get started on the organising thing shall we?” I had my kind-of-intelligent boyfriend back, instead of the weird airhead I had just a second ago.
“Let’s get started then.” I announced as I ran to the bottom floor lounge, planning this was going to hurt my head, but it would give me something to do for today.
Louis POV
“Guys, what should I do?” I asked as I looked at Codie. She’d fallen asleep half-an-hour ago on my arm, now she had me in death grip, and I didn’t want to wake her.
“I have no idea mate, I have never had that problem before with any of my girlfriends.” Harry said being very helpful.
“No, you just keep ‘em awake don’t ya? Sorry, I can’t help you either mate.” Niall sided.
“Don’t look at me.” Zayn said as he continued watching the movie and stuffing his face with popcorn.
“My advice…” Liam started, “is to get comfortable, unless you carry her to bed.” He said.
“Why couldn’t anyone come up with that before?” I whisper-shouted.
“Because no one else has a brain.” Liam announced, resulting in some pillows thrown at his face.
“Alright, I’ll be back, if not, I’m unable to move away without waking her. If that’s the case, goodnight lads.” I warned before I picked Codie up bridal style, which is very hard with a cast mind you, and started the slow walk to her room. Why did we have to be in the bottom floor lounge instead of the top floor? I stared at the stairs blankly. Staring at stairs, a bit cliché, but whatever.
“You need any help Louis?” I heard someone shout.
“Nah, I’m good, thanks.” I shouted back.
“Yeah? Okay then, whatever.” They shouted back.
“Okay then, whatever.” I mocked to myself. I started walking up the stairs, one step after another, again and again. I finally reached solid ground and turned to go to her room. Her arms wrapped around my neck and she put her head on my chest. Oh jeez, i should probably check if she’s awake.
“Codie?” I whispered. No answer, okay she’s still asleep, not good. I still have to get her off of me, how could I do this? I kicked the door open and walked to the side of her bed and flicked the sheets off with my foot, which is really hard, not kidding. Then I put her down gently and her arms fell limp, letting me go.
I put the sheets over her and started walking away. She whimpered when I started moving the door, I stopped moving the door, and after I heard her breathing slow down again I continued closing the door.
“Please don’t go.” She whispered, was that from a dream, or her talking? I went back into her room and closed the door. I went to the bed again and tucked the hair on her face behind her ear.
“Louis?” She whispered again.
“Yeah, I’m here.” I whispered back.
“It’s a double bed, there’s room for two.” She said in her tone of ‘are you stupid or what?’
“Codie, you need sleep, I’m not gonna help you if I’m in bed with you.” That sounded wrong.
“I don’t care, I can tell your tired too, you’ll be asleep in no time Lou.” Her eyes were still closed, either she couldn’t be bothered opening them or she was still asleep. Either of them sounded pretty reasonable with her.
“Umm, Codie, I’m not tired.” She shook her head.
“I can see it on your face love.” She said.
“Codie, your eyes are closed.”
“They are not. I am wide awake and sitting on the couch in the lounge room of our house.”
“What?”
“Don’t you remember? We bought a house, I’m in the lounge room, your standing right in front of me.”
“Codie, you’re having a dream, and weren’t you just in bed?”
“There is such thing as called walking you dick.”
“Yeah, well we should probably go to bed right?”
“Aren’t we already there?” she asked. This was making no sense whatsoever. What goes on in her dreams?
“Yeah we are.” I said, unsure as I got into the other side of the bed.
“Night hun.” She whispered as she wrapped her arms around me.
“Night love.” I said as I did the same as her, except on her, oh Jesus.
***
“You know we don’t have a song yet.” Codie said as we jumped in the car, we were going to Adelaide to get food.
“Alright then, what should our song be?” I asked.
“Well, for one, I don’t like this song, so, next song on the radio?” She announced and asked.
“This is because it’s my song, isn’t it?” I accused her.
“Just because the name of it is ‘The Best Song Ever’ doesn’t mean it’s the best song ever or that I will like it. The next song on the radio, depending on if I like it or not, will be our song because I say so. I told you, I make all the decisions.” Nice little speech there.
“Okay, whatever you say Codie.” I kept it short, sharp and sweet… I think.
“No, not this song, too cliché.” She said as Taylor Swift’s ‘Our Song’ came on.
“Agreed. What are you aiming for with this song of ours?” I asked, maybe we could choose one.
“I’m not sure, I suppose I just have to like it.” She responded.
“Well, that doesn’t help.” I said, trying to avoid an awkward silence.
*Awkward silence, with Taylor’s ‘Our Song’ playing in the background*
Well, that idea worked… not. Waiting, waiting, come on, how long does it take to change the song? Ah, there we go.
“What is this shit? Cliché FM? I wanted something to be our song, and you give me ‘Our Song’ and now you give me this?” Codie shouted at the radio.
“Hey don’t diss the song.” I warned her.
“I’m not dissing the song. I’m dissing the radio station, and I do like this song, it’s just it’s too obvious.” Oh, the song is ‘True Love’ by P!nk.
“Okay, we’re waiting for a song that has nothing to do with love?” I said, it always felt weird saying that word… love.
“Not necessarily, I just, argh, I don’t know what I’m looking for. I just need something that suits us, but doesn’t. It’s hard to describe. I really don’t know.” She makes her thinking face, squinty eyes, crinkled nose and a bitten lip.
“Okay then, why don’t we change the radio station? That should give us some different songs.” I suggested. I didn’t think it was a bad idea, can’t say the same for Codie.
“Did you just say that? This radio station always gives me what I want, I’m not giving up on it yet.” She had a look of disgust on now.
“Hey, you were the one getting frustrated, not me.” I reminded her.
“Sorry I snapped, I’m just getting so frustrated. Or maybe I’m getting confused.” Her knuckles whitened on the wheel.
“At what?” I asked. I heard that it’s good to talk about things.
“Well, I’m frustrated because I can’t find a song and confused because I woke up with you next to me.”
“Well, you want to know the story of why I was in your bed?” that sounded really creepy.
“Yes please.” She said, grinning slightly.
“Okay, so, you fell asleep on me last night and then you had me in death grip. I didn’t particularly want to wake you up, so I carried you to bed, which is very difficult with this thing on by the way.” I waved my casted arm around. “So, I made it to the top of the stairs-”
“OH MY GOD! THIS IS THE SONG!” jeez, she definitely wants to know how she woke up with me next to her.
“Codie, I can’t even hear the song.” I told her.
“That’s because it’s only vocals and piano. Also, if you use these things on the side of your head called ears, you should be able to hear it.” She said sarcastically, well the second part anyway.
“Maybe if you turned the volume up, I would be able to hear it.” I had a clear point here, it was barely audible.
“Jesus Christ.” She said as she turned the volume up.
“Oh, why this song?” I asked.
“Because I love this song.” She said staring at me, a pretty good feat while driving.
“What’s the name of the song anyway?” I asked, I had no idea what this song was.
“‘A Drop In The Ocean’ by Ron Pope”
“Where did the medication go?” I asked Louis, I had a feeling he had taken it away from my room.
