Chapter 1, Page 3

The ride from The accident scene to the hospital was bumpy, but I dealt with it. When we arrived, the blonde paramedic and another one, a nice man with black hair and glasses, pulled me into the hospital on the stretcher.

"We've got a patient with deep cuts, possible glass inside, take her into surgery." The male paramedic said as they moved me off the stretcher onto one of those hospital beds that roll. Four nurses pushed me into an elevator and we went up a couple floors, I'm guessing to surgery.

When we got into the surgery room, I was left with one nurse, a female.

"Here hon, please put these on." She said, handing me an extra large t-shirt and some boy boxers. "Don't worry, the boxers haven't been used."

I smiled a little as I stripped down and put on the items.

"Okay," The nurse said. "Now please follow me, we're going to get you to the X-Ray room to see what's wrong with you."

I followed the nurse out of the room. She was short, but I reminded myself that I'm very tall for my age and that a lot of people who are normal sized will look short to moi. (Pernounced mwah.)

When we got to the X-Ray room, I lied down on the little table as the nurse lied something heavy over my chest. Then she left the room and began taking the X-Rays.

"Well, it seems like there's some glass in your arm. It's in there pretty deep, so we will have to do surgery on it." The nurse, who's name I learned us Jackie, said.

"Okay," Was all I said.

Before I knew it I was lying down in pre-op (pre-operation) and they were prepping me for surgery. The anesthesia doctor man cane in and injected some things and before I knew it, I blacked out.

I woke up about few hours after they knocked me out. I was no longer in the operating room, but I was now in the recovery room. I noticed stitches on my arm where the big gash is, and I felt pulling on my forehead. I guess there were stitches there, too. I few seconds later, a social worker walked into the room, followed by a couple nurses.

"Good afternoon, Paige." The social worker said as the nurses began checking out my shit. (You know what I mean) "I'm Elizabeth, but you can call me Elie, and I'm your social worker. As you know, your parents both died in that car crash, correct?"

I nodded as I felt a tear drop down my withering face.

"Well, I was going over your will, and your parents wished that you be left with your Grandma Patsy, I tried to contact her, but I learned that she has passed on." Elie said.

"That is true," I said. My Grandma Patsy (Or Granny, as I called her.) passed on from breast cancer a few years ago. She was 81.

"And you were also supposed to be left to your other grandma, but she passed away from old age recently, as I was told." Elie continued.

"Also true." She wasn't really my grandma, she was my grandma's sister, who passed on a few months ago at the age of 93.

"So, your parents wrote if all else fails, leave Paige to Miss Glorianna Eisenberg, foster care worker. That means that once you finish your in-hospital recovery, you will be sent there. Understood?" Elie continued in a smooth voice.

I nodded.

"Great! I will be back with more later," Elie said as she got up and left the room.
