The Wrong Woman

Chapter 32

I gaped at the drugs in front of me and then quickly covered them up, casting a nervous glance around me even though we were the only two people on the street.

“Did you know about this?” Zayn asked his eyes still wide with surprise.

“Do I fucking look like I know?” I retorted. I felt like I was burning up and I could even feel rivulets of sweat making their way down the back of my neck.

“What are you going to do?” He asked.

“I’m gonna have to deliver it.” I said, my mind running at a thousand miles per hour.

“You are?”

“Well I ain’t gonna keep the stuff.” I said.

I had smoked pot as a kid, but it had never really done anything for me. I had never really touched drugs after that. Alcohol is and has always been my choice of poison. So the mere sight of these pills was enough to set off major warning signals.

“I need to deliver it and then… I dunno…” I trailed off before looking down at my phone. “I need to call Felicity.”

“Felicity? Why call-“ Zayn suddenly stopped as a look of realisation dawned on his face.

“I work with her remember? We work together.” I said but Zayn remained unconvinced.

“Yeah but she’s his girlfriend… why would you call her if… she’s the one, isn’t she? She’s the bird you’ve been seeing on the side.”

“Just shut up.” I said waving him off. “Go upstairs.”

“Harry Styles… “Zayn grinned as he backed away.

“This isn’t funny.” I sputtered.

“Oh I know it isn’t. It’s like freaking Days of our Lives.”

“Fuck off.”

I waited until Zayn was upstairs before quickly calling Felicity. It took a few rings but she finally answered.

“Harry what is it?” She asked tensely. “I’m at Campbell’s house and I can’t speak for long.”

“I need to see you. I mean it too… I’m not playing.”

“Harry-“

“Just listen. Meet me at the bar tomorrow night. I’ll be working… just wait around for me. We need to talk.”

“Okay, I have to go.” She said sounding rushed. “Talk to you tomorrow.”

I quickly sealed the box and threw it in the boot of the car. I made my way upstairs only to be met with a thousand questions from Zayn, so I reluctantly gave him the condensed version of my relationship with Felicity.

“So let me get this straight.” Zayn said looking more amused by the minute. “You found out she was dating Campbell… and you still kept screwing her?”

“Kind of.” I mumbled.

Zayn burst out laughing as he collapsed onto the couch.

“You’ve got a death wish!” He hooted.

“You’ve got a death wish if you keep on laughing.” I said, throwing a cushion at his head.

“But seriously.” Zayn said. “You need to sort your shit out.”

“I am.” I nodded. “I’ll deliver this box, but it’s gonna be the last one.”

“I’m talking about Felicity.” Zayn said.

I fell silent, unable to meet his eyes.

“Haz?” Zayn prompted.

I rubbed my eyes tiredly in response. The truth was I didn’t want to stop. I liked the way Felicity made me feel. I didn’t want that to stop.

“Fuck.” Zayn finally said, recognising the reluctant look on my face. “You are playing with fire, my friend.”

I delivered the box early the next morning, just wanting to get it out of my car and out of my life. This time I paid more attention as I did it, from the burly man I had never seen before to the nondescript warehouse. I had to admit I was scared. I pulled a baseball cap over my head and hoped to God I could get out of there in one piece.

But it’s okay, I told myself. This is the last time. I was going to tell Campbell that I was not available for any future deliveries.

I had not heard from Maddie in the last couple of days but I didn’t really care. I was focussed on Friday night. I arrived at the bar early and fortified myself with a couple of shots. I usually didn’t drink on the job, but I needed to steady my nerves.

By the time my set started, I was feeling calmer. And when I saw Felicity walk in, I felt even better. She wore a clingy black dress that accentuated her curves, her long wavy hair flowing as she made her way to a small table with a glass of wine in her hand. She returned my smile as she settled in her chair and I began my song.

Forty minutes later I announced I was taking a break and gestured for Felicity to follow me. I made my way to the Staff Only door and waited until she caught up with me. I led her down the corridor and ended up in the side alley. I could not help but remember the last time we were here and how she had given me the best blowjob of my life. As if reading my mind, Felicity smiled and pulled me close, her lips grazing over mine.

“No, I want to talk.” I said and despite her surprise she waited for me to continue. “I want to ask you something and I want you to be honest with me okay?”

“Okay.” She said her green eyes wide with anticipation.

“Did you know Campbell is mixed up with drugs?”

The silence in the alley was deafening as she peered at me. I could not anticipate what her answer was going to be based on the look on her face.

“Why are you asking this?” She finally answered.

“Look, I don’t have time to play around… I want a straight answer.” I snapped. “Do you know what your boyfriend has been making me do for the past few months? He’s been using me as his own little personal drug runner… and no, before you ask, I had no fucking idea I was doing it.”

She visibly grew pale and averted her eyes.

“I didn’t know that.” She said. “I had no idea he got you involved.”

“So you know… “

“I know he’s involved in something…” She said stiffly. “I just choose not to get involved.”

“Well your boyfriend has involved me… and I really never fucking wanted to be involved.” I said before explaining the whole story to her.

“Well what do you want me to do?” She asked.

I paused not knowing how to answer. I had not thought that far ahead.

“Nothing.” I said. “I just wanted to find out if you knew anything about this.”

“I swear I don’t. Look… I know he’s involved in some dodgy dealings, but I’ve always kept out of it. I’m too scared to know more than I do.”

I nodded distractedly and bit my lip.

“You look stressed.” She said, her fingers gently tracing over my frown lines.

“Well wouldn’t you be?” I grumbled before I felt her lips on my forehead. I closed my eyes and tried to relax as they descended to my mouth.

“Come home with me tonight.” I whispered in her ear. She smiled but did not answer so I backed her against the wall.

“I don’t know.” She replied. I reached down, my hand finding its way under her dress and between her legs. She instinctively squeezed her thighs together as I continued to kiss her. She felt so warm and pliant beneath me, but I knew I was due back on stage in few minutes.
I reluctantly let go of her, but not before stealing a few more kisses.

“Yes you will.” I said. “I need you to.”

She stared into my eyes for a moment before I took her by the hand. As we entered the bar, I could not help but look at her and chuckle as I glanced down at her smudged lips.

“You might want to fix your makeup.” I said. We laughed but it was not long before the smile disappeared from my face when my eyes met with none other than Louis Tomlinson who openly stared at us with curiosity and then a knowing smile. I discreetly mentioned his presence to Felicity who to her credit remained calm and just returned to her table. I hung around the bar area for a while before casually returning to my little stage. During the rest of my set, I saw Felicity quietly leave and then watched as Louis and his girlfriend sit down. I followed Felicity’s lead and kept a neutral expression. He had just caught me and Felicity hanging out together for the second time and I did not know what he was going to do with that information. But I couldn’t let him know he was getting to me.

By the end of my set, I was more than ready to go home. I packed up my stuff and was trying to figure out a way of leaving without bumping into anyone when I heard Louis’ unmistakable voice interrupt my thoughts.

“You’re getting a little careless there Styles.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” I said annoyed by the amused smile on his face.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about.” He said smoothly. “Aren’t you scared what a man like Campbell could do if he found out you were hanging out with his girlfriend?”

“Aren’t you scared?” I retorted. “What do you think Campbell would do if he found out about you and Madeline?”

“What’s there to know? I’m her teacher. He’s paying me to tutor her. I have a reason to be hanging out with her.”

“Well what about your girlfriend then?”

“What about her?” He shrugged. “Go ahead and tell her if you want… and I’ll just have a little word with Campbell about you screwing his girlfriend.”

“We’re not-" I began to protest.

“Or maybe I’ll just have a word in Maddie’s ear.”

“You know what?” I said. “I think I’ve figured you out. You’re pissed because you know Maddie wants me. You can’t have her and it’s driving you crazy.”

“Is that what you think?” Louis said. “Sounds like you have it all figured out.”

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper.

“But you’ve been too busy fucking around with the boss’ girlfriend to even know what Maddie has been giving me…”

He playfully waved the pink notepaper in my face and I caught sight of Maddie’s handwriting at the top.

Dear Louis, the letter began.
