Make It Stop ⇼ Luke Hemmings

Fifteen.

Romina Baker.” A voice sneered as soon as Luke kissed me goodbye.
“Madison Brown.” I sneered right back, quirking an eyebrow. “What do you want?” Her too-glossed lips curved into a vindictive smile.
“What do you think I want?” Her squeaky voice bothered me.
“I don’t know, Madison. That’s why I asked.” I rolled my eyes.
“I want you to stay away from Luke! He’s mine!” Her face turned red.
“Oh?” I challenged. “Is your name on him? No? I didn’t think so.” I began to turn away, only to be yanked back. She glared at me. “He’s mine now.” I spat. “He’s yours?” She inquired. “What makes you think he’d want you? Who in their right mind would? He loves me. He’ll always love me. You better back off!” She pushed my shoulder, causing me to stumble back and clench my jaw.
“Excuse me?” I began to get angry. “Listen, princess! Luke doesn’t love you. You left him, he’s mine now. There’s nothing you can do about that, and if you don’t like it, then fuck you!” I pushed her back, regretting it immediately, as she brought her hand up, smacking me across the cheek.
“I always win, bitch.” She growled, strutting away on her heels.
“Slut.” I couldn’t help but mutter as I walked away, but I knew she was right. If she really wanted Luke back, she’d get him in a second. It’s only a matter of time, now. She’s going to win, she always has.

“Hey Romy.” Calum spoke, leaning on my locker.
“Hey Cal. How are you?” He shrugged, staring at the books in his hands.
“The other girls ditched today.” He informed me.
“I know.” A dry laugh escaped my lips as I closed my locker, walking with him.
“Why didn’t you?”
“I don’t know, I had a big test.” I lied, although he knew the real reason.
“Don’t you mean you wanted to see Luke?” Rolling my eyes, I pushed him.
“Calum.” My tone was serious as he held his hand up in defense. “You better not tell.” He mumbled a yeah, causing me to stop in my tracks. “I’m serious.” I pleaded. “I need to tell them myself.” I began walking with him once again.
“I won’t.” He promised, ruffling my hair. “When are you telling them?” We walked into our maths class together, sitting next to one another.
“I haven’t decided yet.” I sighed.

“How are things going with your mum, then?” He changed the subject, I scoffed.
“Horribly.” I admitted. “I mean, not as bad as my dad. My mum’s cool, but Owen is pretty shitty.” I rolled my eyes.
“Yeah? How so?”
“He has the nerve to make my mum tell me that Luke is no good. My mum loves Luke! He’s a manipulator! He’s an arse, I can’t stand him!” Cal raised an eyebrow.
“Sounds shitty.” He agreed, turning to the front as our teacher began the lesson.

Ash, Mikey, Luke, Cal, and I are sat at lunch, not speaking much, as typically Kaylee and Steph started conversation. Madison Brown walked past our lunch table with her skanks and stopped, glaring at me before slapping the table directly in front of my lunch.
“Remember what I told you.” She warned, tapping my nose and pretending to be sweet. Jumping up, I had planned to go after her, only to be forced back down by Ashton—who was sat next to me.
“Romy.” He mumbled, shaking his head. Madison and her crew snickered, walking away.
“What was that about?” Mikey asked. Sighing, I pushed my food away from me, no longer hungry.
“You alright?” Luke asked. He sat across from me.
“Madison Brown and I got into it today.” I told them, unsure if she’d told everyone already. I stood for a brief moment, throwing my food away.
“What happened?” Ash asked, I shook my head.
“Like it matters?” I grouched. “She always wins.” I mocked her, earning small laughs from Cal and Mikey. “She pushed me, I pushed her back, She slapped me.” I shrugged.
“What started it all?” Calum chirped in, I shook my head, glancing up at Luke.
“Who knows.” I lied, not wanting to discuss it further. “I’m gonna go.” Before they could object, I left the cafeteria.

***LUKE’S POINT OF VIEW***

“Go after her.” Ashton urged. Sighing, I threw my lunch away and rushed into the hall, looking around for Romy. Just as I was about to set off down the hall I saw her turn into, I was stopped.
“Luke.” A voice cooed, a hand was set on my shoulder. Madison stood next to me, staring at me with her manipulative eyes. “Let her go.” She whispered. I tore out of her grip.
“Just leave her alone!” I snapped. “Jesus fuck, Madison! We’re over! You left me, remember? Stay out of my life, shit! I don’t know what I ever saw in you.” She gasped, pursing her lips as I left her, running down the hall to catch up to Romy.

When I finally grabbed her, gently turning her to face me, I saw that she was crying. Immediately, she moved her hand to cover her face. I pulled her into my arms, rubbing her back.
“Don’t cry.” I soothed, knowing it wouldn’t do any good. I kissed her head. “Romy, she doesn’t matter.” I spoke, which immediately pissed her off. She pulled away from me.
“She doesn’t matter?” She pressed. “Yes she fucking does! Luke, don’t you get it?!?! She’s out to get me! She had you first! That means that I can never have you because she might want you again! Luke, I can’t win with her, ever!” Romy began walking away. “You might as well just go to her now, because she’s ruthless, and you know she’ll win.” I ran after her, grabbing her waist and spinning her around, setting my hands on her wet cheeks so she was forced to look at me.
“I don’t want Madison Brown.” I told her. “I want you. I love you. I’ll always love you, even if you’re not sure if you love me. I’m not going to crawl back to her, Romina. What we have is different, it’s special. What happened in the car, and at the cabin, and every single kiss we’ve ever shared, it’s all more important than anything I’ve ever had with her. I don’t want Madison. I want you.” I assured the sobbing girl, pressing my lips roughly against hers. Kissing me back for a brief second, she pulled away, sniffling. “Do you want me to take you home?” I asked. She shook her head.
“No. I’m okay. I’m just going to go clean up in the bathroom.” She gave me a quick peck before leaving me alone. I couldn’t help but rub my tired eyes.

I love Romy so fucking much. It’s too much.

***ROMY’S POINT OF VIEW***

“How was school?” Mum asked as I came inside to change. Luke begged me the whole ride home to take me out to a nice restaurant for a date, the kind you get dressed up for. And despite how I’d rather stay at home tonight and watch Netflix, I agreed to it so I could get out of the house.
“It was okay.” I lied, smiling lightly.
“Are you doing anything tonight?” She asked. Owen wasn’t home yet, so she was still in a peachy mood.
“Uhm… Yeah… About that… I kind of need your help.” I muttered.
“With what?” Her eyes lit up as she stood from the kitchen table.
“Luke wants to take me to some fancy restaurant, I guess…” My voice trailed off, she stared at me with a stupid grin plastered on her face. “Could you help me get ready?” I asked, slowly.
“Yes!” She exclaimed, grabbing my hand and dragging me up the stairs.

After a crucial three hours of mum making me try on different dresses, curling my hair—then straightening, but deciding to curl it again, redoing my nails twice, and my makeup three times, I was finally ready and waiting for Luke. Mum was acting like I was getting married with her franticness. When Luke came to pick me up, Owen answered the door with a glare and mum insisted on taking a picture of us, as Luke was wearing a black dress-up shirt, dress pants, and nice shoes. His hair was quiffed up neatly, and he removed his lip ring for the night. After the awkward pictures mum took on my, Luke’s, and her phone, she allowed us to leave so we weren’t late. Luke opened the door for me, jogging to the other side of the car and carefully peeling out of the driveway.

“You look beautiful, Romina.” I blushed as he slowed at a red light.
“You clean up pretty well, too, Lucas.” I smiled, kissing his cheek, giggling as he rubbed it roughly.
“You’re going to get lipstick on me!” He laughed, crinkling his nose. He glanced at me, smiling. “Seriously, Romy.” He stated. “You look breathtaking.” Quietly thanking him, I took a shaky breath as he drove to the restaurant.
