Perfect! (5th Chapter)
…The Next Day (At 10:30 AM)…

Evelyn's POV:

My mother’s skinny legs, pace along the ground; shaking my vision in their constant speed. “(She spits in anger, in a whispery tone) How could he not mention he had a son? This could ruin both of our lives, Evey! And on top of that, that darn kid doesn’t even like you! (She stops, and looks at me; taking a deep breath, to speak calmly) But, don’t worry honey. I have never failed in any of my marriages, and I will certainly not let yours fail either.”
I sigh, rubbing my temple with the tip of my fingers.“Mom, he hates me, and he’s the only rightful person that gets to take all of Desmond’s fortune. I don’t know how would I be able to solve this.” My mother suddenly smiles, emphasising that her mind lighted with a plan. “(She sits down beside me on the edge of the bed) You need to show him that your intentions are clean. Befriend him, and make him believe that you are caring.” I scoff and reply directly: “I am caring mom!” She laughs while shaking her head.
“I know you are, Evey. But you don’t like that Harry boy, right?” Do I not like Harry? What am I even considering, of course not. “(I shake my head) Obviously I don’t.” She nods once, then speaks: “Then you need to pretend that you do. Make him feel that you are friendly, humble, and naive. If he begins to trust you, we could easily persuade him to sign a contract which would bound him from his father’s inheritance. Hence, you will get everything for yourself, and he’d be stuck with nothing in the end.”
I stare at my mother in shock. “You want me to manipulate him?” She rolls her eyes dramatically, before replying:“Honey, what difference would it make? We will be happy eventually; right?” I nod, even though my struggles are increasing deep down. My emotional army is battling with my mother’s devious proposal. How would I be able to fool Harry? To manipulate him and make him think that my intentions are pure?
My mother’s voice snaps me out of my thoughts: “Where is that rebel, right now?” I exhale deeply, before murmuring the answer: “He’s playing golf with his friends.” The smile on her face indicates a positive addition to her reply: “Perfect! Go there and offer them a drink of something. Make sure to show him how pleasant you are, we need him dumbfounded.” She straps her purse handle over her shoulder, standing up on her heels.
“I’ll be leaving you to do your requirements. Call me if anything goes wrong.” I stand up, hugging my mother goodbye, before she leaves my bedroom. Am I really going to do this right now? Why am I feeling that this is all wrong for Harry’s sake? Why am I even considering this right now? He hates me, that’s what he clearly said yesterday.
I jolt out of my bedroom, escalating the large staircase as fast as I could; heading towards the kitchen. “Mrs. Evelyn?” Mrs. Higgins surprises me, stopping my footsteps from entering the kitchen. I turn backwards and smile at the middle aged lady. “Mrs. Higgins, would you please tell the kitchen staff to prepare complimentary drinks for Harry’s guests? I would like to welcome them on my own behalf.”
