The Photograph

Chapter 20

It had been about a week since the text from Louis, I had chatted with Chelsea about it and she encouraged me to start talking to them but I convinced myself not to. I was sitting in Darcy’s room feeding her a bottle in the rocking chair near the window. I pulled my phone out from underneath my leg and flipped through contacts. I came across Liam’s name and began to think more and more. I hit Liam’s number which automatically began calling him I panicked for a minute but told myself to stop chickening out of everthing. Seconds later, an old familiar voice came through the phone.
"Hello?" He said.
"Liam, it’s Emma" I said softly.
"Emma? What a surprise. We were all beginning to think we would never hear from you." Liam stated.
"Well, a lot has happened." I sighed deeply.
"You sound like you want to talk… Is that why you called?" Liam asked.
"You were the only one I felt comfortable coming to, except Harry." I confessed.
"So where are you living anyways?" Liam questioned.
"London. My friend and I moved here a few months ago.. I’ve never had the guts to pick up the phone and call anyone though." I said.
"Let’s meet up! I won’t say anything to the others, I swear! We can talk." Liam exclaimed.
"Okay… I’ll meet up, but don’t say a word to anyone!" I shouted.
"That’s fine, can you meet up right now?" Liam asked.
"Uh now? Umm I could do that." I agree.
"I’ll text you the address of a bakery. We can meet up there, they have really good sweets." Liam said.
"Okay, perfect." I answered.
Liam said nothing more and hung up the phone. Seconds later I got a text with an address, I debated on taking Darcy with me or if I should wait to see Liam until Chelsea got home so she could watch Darcy. I felt bad always leaving her with Chelsea because I know Chelsea has a life besides Darcy and I. So I decided I have no other option besides to take Darcy with me. I put Darcy in a one piece with soft little pants over it with little baby booties. She was only 6 months old by now and she was growing fast. I changed into blue jeans with a white sweater, black combat boots and let my hair down with lose curls. I touched up my make up before making my way towards the bakery.
Once I was there, I noticed Liam wasn’t around anywhere. I ordered a cupcake and a smoothie before walking over and sitting in a booth to eat my snack with Chelsea in her baby carseat next to me.
5 minutes later, the bell rung as the bakery door opened, I looked up and saw Liam. Gosh how much he’s changed, I smiled and stood up. I caught his eye immediately so he walked his way over to me. Liam pulled me into a nice hug and afterwards he noticed Darcy then looked at me with a suspicious look.
"Are you ordering anything?" I ask.
"Yeah, something small I suppose." He answered.
"Go order then we’ll talk." I ordered before sitting back down.
Liam walked away but came back a moment later and sat in front of me, across the table. Liam kept glancing over at Darcy’s car seat but due to her little thing up blocking the light, he couldn’t see more than her feet I would assume.
"I know you want to ask something about her. Go ahead, it’s not a big deal." I noticed after about the millionth time he looked at the carseat.
"Is that your baby?" Liam asked, shoving a piece of cookie into his mouth.
"Um… Yeah, she’s my baby." I answered, then looked at Darcy and flashed a small smile before looking back at Liam.
"What’s her name?" He raised an eye-brow.
"Darcy." I answered blankly.
Liam stared at me for the longest minute, I knew he had caught on that Darcy was something related to Harry. Not only the name.
"Emma is Darcy…. Harry’s?" Liam asked.
"…..Yeah. She’s his daughter." I whispered.
Liam stayed silent for a minute, taking everything in. He had the look of anger in his eyes but also a look of sympathy.
"Why didn’t you tell Harry? Tell any of us? Is this why you stopped talking to us? How old is she?" Liam bombarded me.
"I’m too scared to tell Harry! One Direction is doing amazing right now, the last thing that Harry needs is tabloids ranting on about how he has a baby with someone, it could ruin opportunities for the band! You can lose fans, like I don’t want to ruin anything. He has a career to focus on, he doesn’t need to focus on a fling he had with a girl and a baby." I explained.
"Are you kidding? Harry will be so upset that he didn’t get to do everything with you. He didn’t get to experience your pregnancy, be there for the birth or see her go through life! You need to tell him!" Liam shouted.
"I can’t." I bit my lip, trying to hold back tears.
"Don’t cry… It’s okay. I’m sorry.. You have to tell him soon though, it’s not right to keep something like this from him." Liam muttered.
Liam was right. I need to tell Harry but I don’t even know at this point how someone goes about telling someone they have a baby. I needed to stop holding back and fearing the whole topic, Harry has the right to know and Darcy has the right to her dad.
"I’ll tell him. Give me time though. Maybe if I see everyone else, and warm up to being around everyone then if I see Harry. I’ll tell him." I suggested.
"How does tonight sound? Danielle was cooking dinner tonight at our new flat as a first big event at our flat. Everyone will be there except Harry for sure." Liam suggested.
"How do you know he won’t show up?" I ask.
"Harry hates social events.. Ever since you left, he hasn’t been the same. He isn’t the same old Harry he used to be, not as exciting or anything. He’s practically lifeless. To this day, he hasn’t been the same since the day you left. It’s even gotten him in some fights with the other mates. When Zayn or Lou are in a bad mood, and Harry’s around they clash sometimes." Liam noted.
"Tonight works. I’ll leave Darcy with my friend Chelsea for a little while. Hopefully, I feel terrible for asking her." I frowned.
"Why don’t we drop her off at Lou’s? Lou loves babies! I mean she has Lux but Lux is a piece of cake." Liam smiled.
"You have to take me there. I’m not dropping her off by myself. Don’t tell her it’s Harry’s baby! Just ask if she can watch your friends baby for a little while or something. Don’t connect me to Harry or Darcy to Harry." I demanded.
Liam agreed and kept asking to hold her. So I caved in and pulled Darcy out of her little carseat, handed her across the table to Liam. He cradled her in his arms and smiled at her widely. He lit up with her. It was cute to watch, it’s the first time I’ve ever really seen a guy besides my dad hold Darcy.

The night ought to be real interesting explaining everything. I didn’t want to lie either, lying I’ve learned always put you in worse positions. So I planned on telling the truth, even about Darcy. I wasn’t ready to bring her though yet. Not until after Harry meets her. I have to worry about everyone keeping quiet though until I do tell Harry.
