Story of Our Lives

I start the car and we drive off. I don't know exactly where I'll take her yet, but I'll figure it out. I look over at her. She hides her face from me, hiding the tears and the bruises from the slapping.
"Liz, do you want to come stay at my place?" I ask. She hesitates, but nods. I turn the car around to head to my house.

Harry drives up a long driveway to a fancy looking house. It's two stories, possibly with a basement. The front yard has a few topiaries and lots of flower beds that are filled with multiple different flowers in all sorts of colors.
He walks around and opens the door for me.
"Do you like it?" He asks. I nod, still not wanting to speak.
He takes me inside and shows me around the house and in the backyard where he has a hot tub and pool.
"Harry?" He turns around and looks at me, waiting for me to go on. "I can't stay here. You know that."
"Why not? I have plenty of room and I don't want you going back to that guy. He'll just hurt you again Liz." He says.
"I just feel like I would be a bother. I would at least need to go back there eventually to get my stuff. I could just stay at Abby's house if I needed to. She wouldn't mind and she doesn't live far." I say. He looks down at his feet. "What's the matter Harry?"
"I understand how you feel. Really, I do. There's just one thing..." He looks back up at me, his eyes looking into mine as if asking for permission to continue. "I WANT you to stay here. With me. I like you. No, I LOVE you."
I stare at him confused a bit. "Why? Who could love someone like me? I'm a nobody."
He steps up closer to me and puts his hand on my waist. "You're a somebody to me. You're beautiful, funny, smart, sweet and kind. What isn't there to love about you?" He leans down so our foreheads are touching. He raises his eyebrows and I look at him confused for a moment. The arm that isn't on my waist finds the back of my neck and he pulls me closer.
His lips lightly brush up against mine, sending chills up my back. He puts my arms around his neck and places them back on me. He closes his eyes and pulls me into him, his lips locking with mine.
