Chapter 39

Liam's POV

Codi and I have spent the last few days “getting to know each other” at her house. We didn't leave once. Except to get the mail and eat outside, if that counts. It's been amazing. We are running out of food though and need to get out of the house. Plus Codi said we need take some time off because shes a little too sore.

“Codi! Are you ready?” I yell from the living room. We need to hit up the market and Codi wants me to take her on a proper date. We've known each other for a year and a half, been to two different countries together (actually at the same time), had sex, yet never gone on a date together. Literally failing as a boyfriend. She just wanted to go to dinner but I wanted to go all out and go out to dinner, buy her flowers, stroll around hand and hand, sit on the beach at night together and listen to the waves. But I know that won't happen. I can take her out to dinner and buy her flowers, but once people find out I'm here and follow us around we won't be able to do anything private. I'm actually dreading it, but Codi deserves to be spoiled so I'm going to do the best I can.

“Codi!” I yell again. I really don't care that she's taking forever, but traffic is always terrible in LA and we need to go to the store before we go to dinner. Codi has been working the last three days and it's finally Friday. She didn't stay any later at work, and came straight home to pick me up.

“Quit yelling at me Liam!” She yells back at me as I can hear her stomping down the hardwood floors. I look up from the tv as she comes around the corner and just smile. She's wearing a white dress with flowers all over it and pink sandals. She grabs her purse off the counter and gets the list we made off the fridge.

“Are you ready?” She laughs at me. “Get up, we can't waste time!” She's mocking me, usually how Codi is.

I spring off the couch and beat her to the door, smacking her butt as I fly past. “You look fantastic.”

“Liam James Payne! Not appropriate.” She uses her best teacher voice and points at me as she walks past me and climbs in the car.

Well, that didn't take long. Ten minutes in the grocery store and it's all over Twitter. Everyone in LA knows where I am. I know that once we leave the store it will be crazy. And we need food, I can't leave Codi in her by herself because I know if I do, the car I sit in will be mobbed and Codi won't be able to leave when she comes out of the store. I call a security guard I know is in LA that told me to call him if we needed him and he's already on his way. I'm getting a following at the store as well. Every isle we go down takes longer and longer because more and more girls are asking for pictures and twitter follows.

I can tell Codi is getting frustrated because a 20 minute trip has taken over an hour and we're not even half way done. But she's taking it well, not saying anything to fans, offering to take the pictures for people that ask, and shopping for me so I can chat with everyone that wants to chat with me.

Finally my security guard shows up and tells us it's a mad house outside. They apparently didn’t realize that Codi lived in LA since the last time we were together was in Brazil. Rumors have been flying that we broke up, as per usual. I'm a little worried about Codi, she's never been “mobbed” before and I can see she's a little concerned as we make our way to the door and see the pass of paparazzi and screaming fans.

“It's okay, just stick close to me and don't talk to anyone. Don't let go of my hand okay?” I whisper to her as we make our way to the door.

She nods her head as she clings to my side. I hate this.

The door opens and all we see are flashes and all I can hear is screaming and the paps asking questions.

“Liam, is this Codi?”

“Liam, why did you break up with Sophia?”

“How long are you going to be in LA?”

“Are any of the other guys with you?”

Mike (my security guy) is trying to push people away but obviously we needed more then just one person. I have a firm grip on Codi's hand as we start getting pushed and separated. We lose grip as I look back and see Codi getting swallowed up by the crowd.

“Liam!!” I hear her yelling louder then the other people as I try to push back I realize she's on the ground holding her head and bleeding.

“Codi! What happened?” I push my way through and pull her up. She looks confused and disoriented.

“I was trying to catch up with you and I think one of the cameras hit me in the head or something did at least.” She pulls her hand a way and notice a sizable cut on her scalp in her hair.

“Shit Codi, we need to go to the hospital, you might need stitches.” I have her lean against me and push through the crowds. I'm beyond pissed at every one that keeps getting in our face and trying to push against me to separate Codi and I.

“Please move! We need to leave!” I just start yelling at everyone until we get to the car. Most of the fans noticed and try to push people back to help give me a path to escort Codi. I help Codi in the car and run back to my side. Thankfully I can drive in the States. I realize that next time we go anywhere we'll need more then one security guard.

We make it to the hospital emergency room and head wounds always gush more then regular wounds but it still worries me as you can see the blood on her hands from trying to stop the bleeding and you can see the blood in her hair.

When the doctor finally gets to her he confirms that she does need stitches. Seven stitches to be exact. I take to Twitter as soon as I can to vent my frustrations.

“If you see Codi or I out please be kind and don't crowd us. Currently in the hospital having Codi get stitches from the market mob. Thanks.”

I'm hoping they get the message. I quickly see that #getwellsoonCodi is trending. Thats why I love my fans. Always thinking about us and they can be crazy at times but I know they want the best for us.

“Mr. Payne?” I snap my head out of my phone and notice a nurse in the door. “The doctor just wanted for me to give you Ms. Jensen's discharge papers and let you know that some pain medicine is coming from the pharmacy. Umm just be careful not to submerge her sutures so no swimming, and make sure if she takes a shower that she pats her scalp dry instead of rubbing it. She can take her pain medicine every 4 hours if she needs it, I'm sure she'll have a mess of a headache for at least a day or two. We made an appointment for her with her primary care physician in four days, it's written on the last page to check on them and probably get them removed. And read up on the section of infection, if you see any puss or redness around her injury bring her back in immediately so we can get her on a dose of medicine to counter the infection. Any questions?” She asks as she hands me the packet of papers.

“Uh, no I don't think so, is Codi ready to leave?” I ask as I stand up, for some reason they wouldn’t let me be in the room with her while she was getting stitched up for privacy reasons. Codi and I didn't fight it, we were beyond exhausted.

“She should be out soon, the doctor was just covering her sutures as I was leaving to print off her papers. Sit tight and she'll be right out.” She smiles at me and walks away to another room.

The door opens and Codi walks out, you can tell she's in pain, she's wincing every time she has to move her head. While I was waiting I called in for more security as I notice that even more people have shown up outside the hospital since they followed us here and I tweeted we were at the hospital.

“Hey baby. Pain meds kicked in yet?” I ask, knowing they haven't but hoping she's feeling a little better. I have to get her back to her house and changed, theirs dried blood on her dress and still blood on her hands. They at least got the blood out of her hair.

“Not yet, but I'm so tired. I don't think we can have that date tonight.” You can tell she's upset about it but this is obviously not her fault.

“That's okay, we still have a week to make it up. Lets just order pizza and get a movie or something. Sound good?”

She leans against me in the elevator and I wrap my arms around her, I'm so mad that I put her in danger, I should have known with that crowd that we needed extra people but I made her do it anyway.

“I'm so sorry about all of this, if I hadn't insisted on us leaving without extra guards this wouldn't have happened.” I pull her closer and kiss her temple.

“Its okay Liam, it wasn't your fault. We just know better if we ever go somewhere now. Where are we going by the way, the door is that way.” She points to the opposite direction we're going in.

“Right, we can't go that way, lots more people waiting outside so we're taking the back way, your car is waiting for us there.” I keep my arm around her waist as we make our way out back and securely tuck her into her seat and put her seat belt on, slide to my seat and drive home. I will do anything in my power to protect her from now on.

After eating our weight in pizza and watching the movie “The Impossible” Codi is passed out on the couch with her head in my lap. I've been playing with her hair as the credits roll, careful not to mess with her injury and I really just don't want to move for fear I'd wake her but it is getting late and I figure we need to get to bed. I gently slide to the side and let her lay on the couch as I stop the movie and turn everything off, empty our popcorn bowl in the trash and throw away the pizza box. I run to the bathroom and brush my teeth quick before returning to the couch where Codi is still sound asleep.

I slide my hands under her and pick her up bridal style as she snuggles up next to me while I make our way down to the bedroom. I not so gracefully kick the covers back and let her snuggle in and tuck the covers back over her as I join her on the other side and wrap my arms around her to protect her through the night.

@Louis girl

I'm glad you liked it! I probably could have kept going but I didn't want a story that just dragged on and on!

@Emmy2320
I knew you probably wouldn't like the ending, but there is hope in the last section! I'm not exactly opposed to a sequel, I just don't have any idea where I would go with it as of right now. :) I'm working on a new one right now and I'll let everyone know on here when I post it!

I really enjoyed this story even if I am a little sad that they didn't get together! You are an amazing writer and I love that this wasn't a typical story. A sequel would be wonderful but I understand if you don't want to write one! I look forward to reading more of your stories in the future! :)
