The ugly truth

Chapter 13

Harry's POV

I watched as Kristy stirred her straw in her ice tea and smiled shyly up at me.

A smirk found it's way to my lips as she tucked her perfectly straightened hair behind her ear, I loved that her normal confidence was gone when she was around me.

It was like she was melting at just the smallest of touches from me.

"Thank you for dinner Harry." She whispered as she wiggled her fingers that were still locked with my hand.

I could easily tell why she was so shy and nervous.

We had dinner at my place while no one else was home, but I still had a few tricks up my sleeve.

"Are you ready for part two of the night?" I asked and her eyes widened.

"P-part two?" She stuttered and the look in her eyes grew more terrified.

"We're going on an adventure." I stated with a smile and she relaxed as she saw me pick up my car keys.

I gripped her hand again and lead her outside to my car, she had a smile on her face all night and I was so proud to know that I was the reason for that beautiful smile.

"Where are we going?" She questioned as I leaned over and took the seatbelt out of her hand before doing it up for her.

"It's a surprise." I winked then started the car.

She was quiet after that and I pushed my luck by placing my hand on her thigh which she surprised me by not pushing off, rather she placed her hand on top of mine.

The drive was short and as soon as we parked I could see Kristy's eyes little up like a little kids would.

"I love this place!" She squealed while squeezing my hand and I laughed quietly.

I brought her to a old school type of country bar. It had folk dancing and sometimes you even got free cowboy hats. It was very western.

"My mom owns this place." I admitted a little less confident than usual and she turned away from the flashing lights to look at me.

"I know, I know. She's not a fancy lawyer like your parents but she does pretty good with this place."

I didn't mean to sound like a dick, but it's just that Kristy's parents did so well and what she didn't know was that a lot of the school was jealous of how rich she was even if she tried hard not to show off her families success.

"Are you kidding Harry? I think this is way cooler!" She beamed and made me smile too.

She swallowed hard and looked down like she had just remembered something.

"Are you okay?" I asked while lifting her chin so she was looking in my eyes again.

"It's just that my dad use to take me here all the time when I was younger but then he started to get busy all the time and the last memory I had in there was when he was on the phone with my mom fighting and they broke up for a whole year before they ended up together again."

She looked down again and suddenly I felt like a huge dick for labelling her family as the typical white rich people I thought they were.

I know what she's feeling, I was completely heart broken when my dad left and even though her parents got back together I'm sure that must of been hard on her.

"Well what do you say about going in there and making some new memories?"

She smiled slightly and leaned over to leave a soft kiss on my cheek.

"I say lets go!" She jumped out of the car fast and met me on my side before I took her hand in mine again and lead us straight to the bar. I saw how her eyes lit up again as she watched the different people square dancing and knew I would be able to get her out there at some stage tonight.

"Hey Harry!" James, one of the workers beamed as he caught sight of me and his eyes instantly widened when he caught sight of Kristy by my side.

I may have told him about her numerous times so he knew exactly who she was.

"And who is this beautiful young lady?" He played it off cool and flashed a smile making Kristy giggle shyly.

Well that was adorable.

"I'm Kristy." She stated and held her hand out for him to shake, he dried his off slightly before shaking hers.

"It's a pleasure." He smiled and turned to me to wink which thankfully Kristy didn't pick up on.

"Kristy, this is James, he's been a family friend for many years." I spoke and she nodded just as I saw my mother walk over to the bar from her office.

Crap.

I was hoping she wasn't working tonight but I guess she was bound to be here if she wasn't home.

"Well if it isn't my gorgeous son and his even more gorgeous date." She spoke once she was standing next to James and placed her hands on her hips in a mocking way.

"Hi mom." I mumbled and she just laughed while shaking her head.

"I'm not interested in talking to you, I want to know about this lovely lady." She turned to Kristy and her cheeks instantly flushed as she was put on the spot.

"Um I'm Kristy." She introduced herself again and my mom laughed yet again.

"Oh sweetheart I already know your name."

This time it was my turn for my cheeks to flush, I knew I talked a lot about Kristy but I never imagined my mom to say something like that. Kristy turned to me with a wide smile and I used my free hand to rub the back of my neck nervously.

"Do you talk about me Harry?" She asked playfully, James and my mom both laughed at her words.

"All the time." They said at the same time making Kristy giggle and I rolled my eyes.

"Okay, okay. Can we have something to drink or not?"

After that mom got us both a drink and went to hand them to us but Kristy shook her head fast.

"Uh I'm not eighteen yet." She muttered shyly making me and mom both laugh.

"I like her Harry, she's honest." She gripped Kristy's hand and handed her the drink before winking and walking away.

She turned to me with wide eyes, I knew she wasn't a party girl but I thought she would at least have had a drink or two before.

"I won't tell anyone if you don't." I whispered in her ear and she nodded sheepishly.

I lead us to a empty table and we sat down, she took the first sip of her drink and smiled.

"It's not as bad as I thought it would be." I laughed and we ended up talking about what the drink was and how she really liked it, there's not many girls who actually enjoy beer but somehow she did.

We sat at the table for probably a good forty minutes, our hands always touching somehow and both us laughing. I haven't been on many real dates before and I've never brought a girl here to my mothers bar but I was loving this.

It was perfect.

Suddenly Kristy perked up when she heard the familiar sound of Lucy Hale come through the large speakers.

"I love this song!" Her smile grew as I stood up and helped her up so we could dance.

That was yet another thing I loved about Kristy, she loved country music more than pop.

It was refreshing.

Just as we past the bar, James held two cowboy hats out for us which Kristy happily put on and encouraged me not to care about my hair and put the hat on.

She instantly wrapped her arms around my neck as we followed the fast footwork of the others that were dancing. She let out a small squeal as I held her out at arms length before spinning her into me so her back was pressed to my front and my arms were wrapped around her waist.

"Like an old song on the radio, that you grew up to and everybody knows." She sang along perfectly to country song as she pressed her cheek to my shoulder.

I kissed her forehead softly and she turned around in my grip.

I could see my mom and James both watching us as they pretty much swooned at the sight of me being so caring with a girl. I blocked them out as I leant down and connected our lips.

"Tonight was perfect Harry, thank you so much." Kristy whispered against my lips.

"I think it's time for me to get you home." She pouted but nodded at my words as we walked hand in hand back to my car.

I just wanted to be alone with her and that was the first thing that came to mind, I guess I'll just have to pray that her parents aren't home.

"You're mom is amazing." Kristy smiled causing me too as well. She was the first girl that has ever met my mom and knowing they both like each other is comforting.

"Well I know she thinks your amazing too." I reassured her as we pulled up her driveway.

The only car I could see was Kristy's so it gave the impression that god had answered my prayers and her parents weren't home.

"Aren't your parents home?" I frowned. I had never once been to Kristy's house while her parents were home. She must get really lonely.

"My mom is out of town for business, and since she's away my dad went away with his guy friends." She shrugged like it was nothing but to me it didn't really sound like her parents were happy, but if they weren't happy then why did they get back together?

"Kristy, why did your parents get back together when from what you've told me about them, they don't really seem that devoted to each other?"

She looked down at her lap and gulped before looking back up at me sadly.

"I was eleven when they first broke up, it wasn't horrible or anything but then I got sick and my dad moved back in after that. They always say that they worked things out but I knew they only stuck together after that for me, but when people ask about it I don't really say that they only tolerate each other for me. It just seems easier to say they fell back in love even though I know you can't fall back in love with someone once the initial love and flame is gone."

I stayed silent and gulped back the million different questions I had, I knew it was too soon to ask her about why or how she was sick but it must of been serious if it caused her parents to get back together just for her.

But I don't know if I agree with her about never being able to love someone more than once, I guess we all have our opinions. My usual ones don't even involve love, just lust.

"But it could be worse-" She paused to shrug her shoulders again before finishing her sentence.

"At least they still sleep in the same bed."

I couldn't help but laugh at her words.

"Do you uh want me to walk you inside?" I asked nervously, I really wanted to kiss her and frankly I would love to do it outside in case Ashton saw but I'm not that much of a dick.

"Sure." She smiled and completely forgot about our deep moment we had just shared.

Once we had silently walked inside, she was the first one to make a move as she spun around and connected our lips hungrily.

"God you're so amazing." I mumbled to her and she smiled against my lips before running her finger through my hair.

"Stay the night?" She asked quietly.

"Anything for you." I replied.

Notes

I tried to make the date a little less typical and let me tell you it was freaking hard! And I made it Harry's POV because I just felt like it :P
