Unexpected
Chapter 13
Everyone grew silent as time seemed to slow down. Tess looked completely shocked and Zayn looked as if he wanted to go hide somewhere.
After a few moments of uncomfortable silence, Liam spoke up. “Niall, it’s your turn,” he muttered.
“Um, okay, Louis, tru-“
“Wait.”
Everyone turned to look at Tess. We barely heard her speak but it was obvious she had something to say. Zayn looked as though he was hit in the stomach with a brick when he got no reaction from her after revealing his feelings.
“I like you, too,” Tess said, turning to face Zayn.
His head snapped up as the words left her mouth. His face held a look of surprise and relief. His lips turned up into a smile and he pulled her into a hug.
“Awww,” Louis taunted. “So cute.”
They let go and Zayn slipped his fingers between hers.
“Now it’s Niall’s turn,” Zayn said.
*A few hours later*
“Thanks for coming over,” Liam said as we all stood to leave. Our game was over and we were all pretty tired and ready to go to bed.
“It was so nice to meet you!” Aleanbh said, giving Tess and me each a hug.
“Same for you,” Tess said, heading back to our room.
“We should meet up tomorrow,” I suggested.
“Yeah, Liam told me they boys have some band stuff to do before the concert, maybe we could go shopping?” She offered.
“No!” Tess yelled from our doorway.
“She means yes,” I said.
“Great, I’ll see you tomorrow.” Aleanbh shut the door and I walked back to our room.
“I don’t want to go shopping,” Tess whined, flopping down on her bed.
“Too bad, we’re going shopping.”
“But I don’t want to!”
“I don’t care. We’re going and that’s final.”
I was surprised at the conversation I was having with Tess right now. Usually this is something that happens between a daughter and her parents, the parents being the ones saying no.
I looked at the clock on the table between the beds and saw it was almost midnight already.
“We should get to sleep,” I announced.
Harry walked out of the bathroom in his boxers and ran his hand through his hair.
“You ready for bed babe?” he asked me.
“Just let me get changed,” I answered, grabbing some clothes to sleep in and heading into the bathroom.
After I was changed and had my hair and teeth brushed, I walked back out into the room to find Tess and Zayn already cuddled up in bed.
“They’re so cute,” I whispered to Harry as I climbed into bed next to him.
“So are you,” he replied.
I smiled and gave him a kiss. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me closer to him. I laid my head on his chest and slung my arm over his stomach.
I listened to his steady heartbeat as he drifted off to sleep and couldn’t think of anything better to fall asleep to.
*the next morning*
“Chloe, it’s time to get up.” I felt a hand shaking me back and forth. I opened my eyes and saw sunshine flooding the room.
“What time is it?” I muttered, pulling my pillow over my head.
“10:30,” Harry’s morning voice answered me.
I sighed and pulled myself out of bed.
“The boys and I are going to have to be leaving soon, love. Aleanbh is going to be over in a little while to take you and Tess out shopping. Liam gave her his credit card so you don’t have a budget.”
“Where is Tess?” I asked, looking around and not seeing her or Zayn.
“She went with the rest of the boys for breakfast. I hope you don’t mind that I didn’t wake you sooner, you just looked so peaceful.”
I shrugged and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. When I looked in the mirror, I almost screamed. My hair was a tangled mess and I completely forgot to take my make up off last night so it was smeared all over my face.
I quickly cleaned myself up and hoped Harry wouldn’t think of me any differently after seeing me like that.
“I’m going to head out now,” Harry said, slipping his shoes on. “I’ll see you when we get back.”
He planted a kiss on my lips and left. I walked over to the pile of suitcases by the window and unzipped one.
I pulled out a pair of short white shorts and a grayish brown button up shirt. I looped a brown belt through the loops and slipped on a pair of flip flops. As I was pulling my hair back, Tess walked into the room.
“Morning,” she said cheerfully.
“How was breakfast with your boyfriend?” I asked teasingly.
“Wonderful,” she answered, opening another suitcase. She threw on a pair of pink shorts, a white shirt, and some brown sandals, and wrapped a multicolored scarf loosely around her neck.
“That’s good to hear. What time did you leave?” I asked.
“Like 9:45. By the way, Aleanbh is going to be here soon.” As soon as she finished saying that, the door opened once again and in walked Aleanbh in white shorts and a teal button down blouse. I was surprised at the way she kept herself balanced on her wedges at this hour of the morning.
“Speak of the devil,” Tess said, brushing her hair.
“Are you guys ready?” Aleanbh asked from the doorway.
“Yeah, let me just grab my purse,” Tess answered.
We grabbed our things and followed Aleanbh out the door and to the elevators.
“Do either of you know any good stores around here?” she asked on the way down to the lobby.
Tess and I both shook our heads. “We just went where the boys took us.”
“I’ll just ask the driver, then,” she replied.
We finally reached the lobby and found a limo waiting for us out front. We hopped in and Aleanbh asked the driver to take us to whichever store he thought we would like and we were on our way.
“So, how old are you?” Aleanbh asked as we pulled away from the hotel.
“I’m 16,” Tess said.
“But I thought you were going to be seniors?”
“I skipped a grade,” Tess explained.
“I’ll be 17 next week,” I told her.
“We’ll have to throw you a birthday party then!” Aleanbh exclaimed.
“We’ll be on the bus,” I objected.
“So? You still deserve a birthday party,” she argued.
I shrugged, not bothering to argue any more.
The car came to a stop and the driver rolled down the median to let us know we’d arrived at the store. Tess and I followed Aleanbh out of the limo and watched as the driver pulled away.
We looked up at the building in front of us and couldn’t believe our eyes. It had to be about 3 stories and, as we entered, we saw that all 3 stories were full of clothes, shoes, jewelry, purses, perfumes, make up, and anything else you might need to make yourself look presentable.
“Let’s start over here,” Aleanbh said, pulling us over to racks of bikinis.
“Why here?” Tess asked.
“Well, it is summer. And I’m sure you guys didn’t bother to pack any swim suits, so let’s get some!”
She began pulling suits off the rack and tossing them at Tess and me. When all 3 of us had about 5, we headed to the dressing rooms.
I took a look at what Aleanbh had given me. I picked up a green and white bikini and held it up.
Doesn’t look too bad, I thought. I pulled it off the hanger and slipped it on. The strings on the top tied perfectly around my neck and the bottoms fit well. I smiled at my reflection and tried the rest on, loving each one.
When I was finished, I stepped out of the changing room and saw Tess and Aleanbh waiting for me.
“You like them?” Aleanbh asked.
I nodded.
“Then we’ll get them. Put them in here,” she ordered, holding out a shopping basket.
“Let’s go look at jewelry,” Tess offered.
We followed her over to the jewelry part of the store and were amazed by the selection they had. There were all kinds of earrings, gold, silver, and metal necklaces, small rings and large rings; you name it and it was there.
We spread out and picked up a bunch of different things. I thought about the clothes we bought yesterday and tried to match with the outfits. Then I remembered my necklace.
I brought my hand up to my neck and smiled when I felt the cool diamond under my finger tips.
“Hey, Chloe?” Tess called from a few feet away.
“Yeah?” I turned around and dropped my hand down to my side.
“What do you think of these?” she held up a pair of silver earrings to her ears.
“They suit you,” I answered honestly.
We looked for a few more minutes before we were satisfied with our choices. Aleanbh pulled us over to the clothes where we were stuck for at least 2 hours.
By the time we were finished in the store, it was time to head back to the hotel. The boys should be back by now and we needed to get ready for their concert.
Tess called the driver back and he took us back to the hotel to get ready.
