The key To Destiny

Chapter 3

On a brisk, cool, Sunday morning, I sat on a cold, stone wall, the breeze blowing the hair out of my clear, youthful face. For once I was not reading, but waiting. For who, you may question. Well, that is hardly a mystery.

On the same brisk, cool, Sunday morning, a young girl was sitting in a sleek, black, Jaguar, tapping her foot against her Mother's boyfriend's seat. He gave her a dark look before sighing.

"She keeps poking at me!" He complained to her mother, who sat behind the steering wheel.

"Jasmine" Her mother warned. She sighed and then, out of pure satisfaction, kicked his chair full force. He let out a yelp and her Mother looked at her.

"Jasmine!" she scolded, looking at her daughter. "Stop or I will bring you back home and you won't see Sam at all!" With that she turned back to the mirror and fixed her hair. Jasmine sighed and flopped back down against the leather seat.

"What's so important about this 'big' meeting anyway?" He made sarcastic air quotes.

"Well first of all" She began, using a tone you'd use with a small child. "In case you haven't noticed, Sam is my best friend in the world, she's like my sister and I really need to talk to her on a daily basis" she crossed her legs and sat up proudly. "And secondly," She went on. "Her brother has invited me to join his band" He looked at her like she was crazy.

"And? What's so special about that?" He knew he was irritating the young girl by the look of annoyance set in her determined, strong willed, face.

"Well, what's so special about it is" she took a small breath, glaring at him. "Being a part of this band could change my life" He snorted.

"How?"

"Why are you so interested, anyway? If it seems so unimportant to you, why do you keep asking me all these questions?" She caught him off guard. His smirk disappeared.

"Jasmine" her mother sighed. "Just leave him alone"

"No Mom! He's the one who started it! He tried to wind me up! So why don't we finish this little row and get it over with? Like he wants to" She looked over at her Step Father- To- Be. Yes he had popped the question to her Mother last week. Much to her disgust. He was a horrible Man. Yes he might have looked like a smart, intelligent, good-looking Man, but inside he was far from it. Well only to Jasmine anyway.

"Drop it!" Her mother turned to look at her. "Drop it" she repeated. Jasmine looked out the window.

"He's nothing like Dad" She muttered.

"What did you just say?" He mother turned to her. She didn't look up. Her Father. Her real Father. The one who used to bring her to the park, push her on the swings, bring her on picnics, tuck her in to bed and read her bedtime stories. She missed that Dad. That Dad, with his large hands, tall figure, big, kind, smiling eyes. She missed that Dad.

"I said, He's nothing like Dad" She repeated, louder this time. He turned to her, frowning. Her mother looked appalled.

"How dare you!" She spluttered.

"No, let her have her moment" He put a hand on her shoulder, a gesture that sickened Jasmine deep down.

"You never did anything for me, but get in my way!" She began losing it. "I hate you! Both of you!" Her face was flushed. Her Mother was quiet for a little while, until she finally spoke up.

"He is nothing like your Father" Jasmine felt confused. "He's better than your Father" Now Jasmine felt angry.

"If he's so better than Dad, then why did you marry Dad? If he's so bad then why did yo marry him?" She felt smart. That was a good comeback Jaz! She would have given herself a high five if she could.

"I really don't know" Her mother shook her head. "I have no idea"

"You did back then" Wow, I'm really on the ball today! She thought. You see she was not one of those people who had good comebacks. Things like this were very seldom.

"Get out" her mother whispered, tears in her eyes. "Get out! Get out! GET OUT! GET OUT!" She began screaming. In shock, She opened the door of the car, ready to get out.
Just before she did, she said snidely "Thanks for the lift" before walking away, slamming the car door behind her.
