Back for You

• Chapter 6 •

-Ashton’s POV-

I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing here, but something drew me back. Everything has been playing at my nerves for the past week. Like is it just me or is Rihannon more annoying than ever? And it feels like Luke hasn't been off my back as well. Plus, with all the questioning stares I've received from Cal and Mike, I think I may just lose it.

So that's why I'm here.

Again.

It’s been a week since I’ve been here last, but nothing has changed. The paint on the walls is still chipped – probably worse than last time – and the pile of clothes and a few toys are scattered here and there, dirt and dust hugging them.

How in the world do my girls live here?

My girls? I-I-I mean Aly and Mia.

“Umm can I get you a drink or anything?” Aly asks, as she nervously fiddles with the bracelet I gave her.

“No thanks, I’m fine,” I reply. I don’t want her to waste any of her supplies on me, they’re probably very limited anyway.

“Oh ok, good. I was just trying to be polite, I don’t really have anything to drink, just stuff for Mia.” She tries to crack a smile, but she has a broken look stuck on her face.

I’ve made her like this, and I need to fix it.

“Maybe I could take you and Mia out for Lunch, and then we could go to the mall?” I suggest, but hesitate at the thought of getting mobbed by the paps.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she shakes her head and looks at the ground. She still hasn’t let me meet Mia, and it’s driving me insane.

“Please Aly, I want to fix what happened. I want a life with you and our daughter!

“You have a girlfriend Ashton!” she snaps at me.

“Doesn’t mean I can’t have a life with you.”

“Yes it does. If you’re suggesting that we be friends after everything, then you are crazy.” She runs a hand through her messy hair in frustration.

“Just please let me meet Mia.” I’m about to get on my knees to beg but she lets out a huff in annoyance and walks out of the living room, presumably to where Mia’s room is.

I was correct and she comes back with Mia in her arms before placing her on the floor next to her, and although I’m on the other side of the room sitting on the shabby couch, I feel my heart beating faster in my chest.

Mia has blondish curly hair with green piercing eyes like mine.

Like mine? She’s mine.

“Mummy, whoo’s dis?”

“This is Mummy’s friend Ash-Ashton,” she corrects herself. “Say hello Mia.”

“Hello Ash-Ashton,” she waves and I smile and wave back, even letting out a little chuckle.

“Mummy I hungary,” Mia drags out.

“Aright, I’ll see what we have to eat.” Aly smiles at Mia then nods at me before walking into the kitchen.

Mia joins me on the rugged couch with a smile.

“So how do you know ma mama?”

“Well umm, we – I-“

This is awkward, if Aly didn’t tell Mia that I was her father than I probably shouldn’t either, especially as I did leave her dad-less for three years.

“We are friends from awhile back” I answer simply, hoping Mia doesn’t ask any other questions.

“You ave curly hair,” she giggles while touching my hair with her small, fragile hands. “Just like mine.”

My heart sinks

“My mama has different hair to me, all my fwends say that I must ave hair like my daddy’s, but I don’t have a daddy like all my fwends,” she sniffles and starts to tear up.
I gather her in my arms and rock her back and forth. “Shh,” I whisper, “It’s okay.”

I attempt to cheer her up with silly faces and jokes, and eventually it works.

-Aly’s POV-

I fix Mia a quick snack of sliced banana and realise that it’s the last one we have.

Maybe I should take up that trip to the Mall with Ashton?

No! I don’t want to use him for his money like that Rihannah apparently chick does.

I walk back into the room, with the bowl of banana in one hand and I almost drop it at the sight.

Mia is laughing uncontrollably as Ashton tickles her, laughing along with his daughter, our daughter.

She looks so happy. He looks so happy.

Mia looks so comfortable around Ash, and she usually is very shy around new people.

Ashton’s phone rings and he tells us that he has a meeting to go to. He pecks Mia on the forehead and I walk him out

I surprise him and myself by hugging him and he holds onto my tight, just like old times.

“Thank you so much for letting me meet her Aly, its more to me then you think,” he whispers in my hair.

“No problem.”

He lets go and waves goodbye while saying, “Take care Aly Cat.”

He used the nickname…

I walk back in to find my sassy daughter with her arms over her chest.

“Mama?” she asks.

“Yes Mia?”

“I like Ashton, he’s funny and he make me laugh.” She grins at me

“Me too, Mia, me too.”

I take her to her bed, tuck her in and walk out the room before I break down in front of her.

I miss Ash.

I need him.

We need him.

How the hell am I going to do this?
