Divergent.

Just A Test.

“You nervous?” I looked up at my mother. “No. Were you?” I asked her. “No I wasn’t nervous, I was terrified. But in the end there was nothing to worry about.” She said. I looked into the mirror one more time before she closed it. “That’s all the time you get.” She said. I sighed before looking down.

Today was the aptitude test that tells you what faction you belong in. There are 5 factions to be chosen from, Abnegation in which my family are in, Erudite, Candor, Amity, and Dauntless.

Abnegation blame selfishness and therefore, we value selflessness. We work to attract the least amount of attention as possible. Our signature color is grey. We wear baggy clothes and cover most of our skin. We always put others before ourselves, even though sometimes it hard for me, and we dedicate our lives to aid others.

The Erudite blame ignorance for said destruction and therefore, they value intelligence. I would not describe them all smart, even though they would like to believe they are. They crave knowledge and are always eager for information. They wear blue, electric blue business clothes. Sometimes they wear glasses and probably the majority of them don’t even need them. Stupid but I think when they wear the glasses they think it makes them look smarter.

The Candor blame dishonesty and therefore, they value honesty and truth. They say everything and anything on their minds regardless of the extent of their insincerity. Candor only wear black and white, symbolizing straight forward black and white of the words on a page.
The Amity, they like to blame hostility and cruelty and therefore, they value kindness. They live outside the fence that surrounds the city and manage the farms that provide the rest of the faction’s food. They always wear red and yellow.

And lastly you have Dauntless. They blame cowardice as the reason of failure of the previous system. That makes them believe in bravery. They obviously wear black, they mostly have tattoos and piercings, and honestly most people would say they act like complete idiots. But I think there is beauty in what they do. They are brave, extraordinary, and different.

My family is in the faction of Abnegation. And I respect that, but sometimes I question why I am here. I’m not as selfless as the rest of my family, never have been. My brother can easily give up a seat to someone on the bus of help someone carry something, but me, I wouldn’t. I’m scared to see my test results. Scared to leave my family for my new faction, but I think I am even more scared of the fact that I might have to stay.

{~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~}

As we wait in line to go in for our tests the lines are divided by factions. You could tell which faction was which by all the clothing, we all wore different colors. I sighed before looking up at my brother. We looked alike. We had the same brunette hair and bright blue eyes. We weren’t the biggest people, muscle or in height but my brother had big biceps because of the lessons of teaching his guitar to the children at school.

“So you’re in abnegation right?” I heard a male voice up in the line. I looked up and saw a boy in black and white, Candor, picking on an abnegation boy who was half the size of him. I recognized the Candor boy from school, his name was Peter, he was always trouble and I didn’t really understand because he was in Candor, the honest.

“So tell me,” Peter began. “Is it true that you give the food that is extras to the factionless, or do you just keep it all to yourselves? Hum?” Peter said. When the city has extra food us Abnegation usually feeds it to all the factionless, the people without a home or a place to eat and stay.

“Don’t Gracie.” Niall, my brother said before I could go up there and help the boy. I sighed before I stood still beside him. I didn’t get why he didn’t let me help him, I thought we were selfless. We should help each other. Maybe it was the fact that I could cause something with Peter and then something dangerous could happen, that would be Dauntless.

“Yeah, come on! Yeah, let’s go!” I heard loud cheers and yells behind me. I turned around and saw a train coming at full speed with people jumping, pushing each other with giant smiles on their faces. As the train got closer they got closer to the ledge and bounced on the heels of their feet. Were they going to jump? I asked myself. Although according to the tattoos, piercings and the black clothes they were Dauntless. That wasn’t even the craziest thing they would do. It was normal for them.

“Crazy.” My brother shook his head slightly. I looked at him he was smirking slightly laughing quietly to himself as they jumped off, and stumbled. In the end, they all became a happy line in front of the Dauntless doors. I saw a girl she was pretty tall, normal for a girl, dark brown hair and light blue eyes. She was smiling and pushing her friends. I didn’t know why I was looking at this girl, maybe because she was the prettiest, the looked smart, or maybe because I was jealous of all of her qualities.

She must have noticed my stare because she looked at me, then she did something I didn’t think she would do. She smiled and waved slightly. And that’s when I recognized her, she went to my school.

“You ready Gracie?” I heard my brother’s voice break into my thoughts. I looked up and noticed it was our turn for our tests. I blew air out of my mouth, puffing my cheeks. This was it, the time where I found out where I belong.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” I said before walking into the doors that will decided my future.

{~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~}

“What is it with you Abnegations and mirrors?” A woman dressed in black, with a tattoo, and some piercings in her ears said. She must be dauntless, people that test can’t be from the same faction.

The room I was in for the testing was filled with mirrors filling where the walls should be. I tried to avoid looking at them. It was against the ruled in abnegation to look in the mirror for too long, that’s why every three months my mother would trim my hair and leave the mirror open for me to look and when finished it got closed and then I had to wait another three months before I saw my reflection again.

“Well we don’t really like vanity, it’s vain.” I say to her before sliding into the chair I’m supposed to sit in. She quickly pressed her fingers to the keys in the keyboard while staring intently into the screen. She grabbed a small glass filled with a blue liquid before reaching it out to me without looking.

“Drink it.” She said. I grabbed it before looking in it and smelling it, I looked at her and saw she was getting some wires ready. “What is it?” I asked before drinking it all the way down. Bottoms up. I didn’t even get the chance to hear her answer before all I could see was blackness.

My eyes quickly snapped open and looked around. I was still in the chair and the room filled with mirrors although there wasn’t the Dauntless woman. I stood up and looked around again, confused, I grabbed my skirt so I didn’t walk on it.

“choose.” A voice said behind me, startling me and causing me to turn around. There was no one there only a tray with a sharp knife on it, and another across from it with a slab of meat on it. “Why?” I asked aloud. “Choose.” Was the only reply back, I looked around again. Not seeing anyone again. “No.” I said stubbornly before crossing my arms. “Fine.” Was the reply, I wasn’t expecting that.

“Grrrr.” I turned around and saw a big black dog staring at me like I was a piece of meat, now I actually wish I had that piece of meat, or that knife. I knew if I ran it would just get madder and more vicious.

This wasn’t real Gracie, not real. I slowly sat down on the ground and bowed my head, steadying my breathing and heart rate. In, out, in, out and then again. I then looked up and saw a little puppy, he looked like a smaller, and sweeter version of the big black dog.

“Puppy.” A voice said behind me. I turned around and I saw a little girl, a little abnegation girl. She smiled at me then looked at the dog. Her face turned to terror, I quickly spun around and came face to face with the big dog again.

“Ahhh!” the little girl screamed before running away, big mistake. The dog ran after her, I quickly shot up and tackled the dog to the ground. And that’s when everything changed.
Now I was on a bus. I looked down and saw a man holding a paper close to his face.

“Do you know this man?” his finger pointed to the man on the front of the page, underneath big bold letters saying “MURDERED LAST NIGHT.” I looked at the pictures of the man, he did look familiar. Maybe I did know him, I didn’t honestly know. I looked at the guy holding the paper and noticed his grey cold eyes. I didn’t know if I should say yes or no. This man could hurt me if I did know him.
"No." I said calmly. The man looked me dead in the eyes and all I could see was cold heartedness. "I'm sorry. I don't know that man." I said. I'm surprised I'm this good at lying, I would even believe myself.

"YOU'RE LYING!" the man yelled in my face. I flinched slightly, and my heart picked up pace a little bit. I quickly calmed down, looking into the mans eyes one more time. "No sir, I'm very sorry I do not know him." I said, a faint smile playing on my lips.

And then I woke up.

Notes

*DISCLAIMER*
First chapter. Okay, this story will not be word for word, that would be way to much work. I honestly suggest that you read the first book before this, or see the movie because I will be changing some certain parts because I thought this would make an amazing One Direction fanfiction. This will have all the boys, some roles not as big as others, and some may not play characters that describe them in real life. This will have more romance than the original between Tris and Four. This will mostly be about my own character Gracie, the main character, and Harry as Four. I will change all the characters, and they will most likely play different celebrities that will be well known. I hope you enjoy. Please rate, comment, and subscribe for updates.
