They Don't Know About Us

Merry Christmas Darling

“Welcome home baby.” My mom said as she welcomed me at the front door of the house.
“Hey momma.” I replied hugging her neck.
I walked into the house I’d grown up in. I looked around, not much had changed, just new pictures on the walls of my brother and me. His new football pictures were in, I smiled at how grown he was. I still couldn’t believe he was turning sixteen in just a few months. He definitely looked older.
The smell of apple cinnamon filled the cozy home, my favorite Frank Sinatra Christmas album played on the stereo, and I came into view of the beautiful tree that my mom spends so much time on every year. Nothing had changed.
“I hope you’re hungry, I cooked your favorite.” My mom smiled as we walked into the kitchen.
I nodded smiling looking around for my dad. “Where’s daddy?”
“He’s still at work, he’ll be home around six. Judd is out shooting skeets with Jordan.” She said motioning to the backdoor.
The cool air was blowing as I made my way into our large backyard. I saw my brother and my cousin Jordan shooting skeets a little ways ahead clad in camouflage. I smiled at the familiar sight as my brother shot the gun hitting the skeet perfectly.
“I know y’all are not starting tradition without me, I mean what is that?” I scoffed, they turned and rolled their eyes. “So y’all started without me, and I don’t get a ‘welcome home Tay’? I’m hurt.”
Again they rolled their eyes before tackling me in a bone crushing hug. Both of them towering over my small stature. My cousin broke the hug and handed me a gun, I took it smirking.
“Now, y’all just sit back and let a pro show you how it’s done.”
“Yeah, says the girl who can’t even walk without tripping over her own feet.” Jordan scoffed. I rolled my eyes.
“Pull.” My brother released the skeet and I fired the gun hitting the flying object perfectly. Smirking, I gave the gun back to Jordan before walking off.
“She always does that!”

“So honey, how are you?” My mom asked as I helped her prepare food for the annual family Christmas Eve dinner.
“I’m good.” I said unconvincingly continuing to mix cake batter.
“Taylor Briana Moore, you are not okay. Now tell me what happened with Harry.” Damn, she could read me like an open book, she always could. It had been weeks since I’d last talked to him. One week exactly since I found the letter and necklace. Yet it still felt like just yesterday that I’d broken up with him, the cuts were still fresh.

“Um, well we were just fighting constantly and with me fixing to go on tour next month plus rehearsals for the New Year’s Eve thing we knew it was going to be hard to spend any time together so we broke it off.” I lied.
“That is not the reason and you know it. You two have been through tour after tour together, one small European tour wouldn’t and couldn’t have broken you two up. There’s something more. Did he cheat? Is there someone else? Did you cheat? If so with who and why?” She just kept rambling on questions that I really didn’t want to answer. She always resulted to this, asking questions until I broke.

“Mom! Will you just stop?!” She looked at me appalled. “Taylor Swift happened! Both PR teams set up a fake relationship for fame! Harry and I had been a secret so he didn’t tell them about us to stop the whole incident from happening! I tried to deal with it I really tried because I loved him! I thought he loved me but he never hung out with me while they were in New York. He was constantly leaving me to go tend to her. She wasn’t the girlfriend, I was! Yet, there he goes letting her hang all over him at a party. Taking her to his hometown for her birthday when I didn’t even get to see him on mine! Hell, I barely talked to him! But you know through all that shit that I went through, I stayed with him because I loved him! I knew I just couldn’t throw away two years together! But then Niall made me realize that Harry had been neglecting me and not treating me like his girlfriend. He made me feel wanted, he wanted me. And for the first time in a while, something felt right. So I broke up with Harry. Niall and I started hanging out and eventually became official. He didn’t waste any time telling anyone. I didn’t mind. But then Harry came over one night and we talked. He kissed me and it was like everything was right again. But when I looked at him I didn’t see the Harry I fell in love with I saw the one that had left me for her. So I told him to leave. I went home and was talking to Niall on the phone and I told him I still loved Harry and he said he’ll be waiting until I make my decision. So that ended. Then the night before I came home I found a letter, Harry’s paper airplane necklace, and a picture of us in my suitcase. Harry had hand written a note saying how much he loved me and how sorry he was. I had never seen him do something like that.”
“Oh honey. I am so sorry baby!” She said engulfing me in a hug while I sobbed into her shoulder. Her grip on me tightened as she just let me cry.

It was Christmas Eve and we were at my grandparent’s house for our family get together. The whole side of my mom’s family was there laughing and carrying on. I sat on the couch along with my cousin Mallory who was rambling on about her newest boyfriend that sat beside her. My cousin Allie’s boyfriend was there as well, my brother had his girlfriend over. It seemed like everyone had someone there, except for me. I barely listened to the conversation as my mind raced with thoughts about Harry.
“Tay? You okay?” Allie asked as she sat beside me with her plate of food.
“Huh?” I asked looking up at her. “Oh yeah. I’m fine. Just a little jet lagged.”
“It’s been a week since you’ve gotten here.” She said matter-of-factly.
“I guess I’m just tired.” I sighed. She nodded and sipped her drink before turning to her boyfriend.
Harry was supposed to come this year. I was going to introduce him to my family. I was actually going to have something other than my job to talk about this year. I was supposed to have a great Christmas with the one I loved.
I rose from my seat before making my way outside. The cool crisp air hit me like a ton of bricks almost knocking the breath out of me. I shivered a bit before walking over to the little bench that sat in the garden. When I was little I always came here, it was my favorite place. My grandmother always kept her garden so beautiful and full of color. It brought me extreme comfort just to come out here and sit.
Only a few stars dotted the black sky. I brought my knees to my chest and hugged them tightly. I looked back on the past few months. So many things had happened in such little time. My life had made a complete U-turn and I wasn’t sure if it was for the better.
“I knew I’d find you out here.” I heard the soft voice of my grandmother say. I looked up to see her smiling face. I smiled softly as she sat down next to me wrapping an arm around my shoulders. We’d always been very close. I’d tell her my deepest darkest secret, and she’d never tell a soul. She’d always been someone I could turn to.
“So, how’s being a big popstar?” She asked.
“Stressful, but worth every bit of stress. I love it. It makes me happy.” I smiled.
“You’re making us proud doing what you love. That’s all I’ve ever wanted for you. You know that right?” She asked.
“Yes ma’am. Thank you.” I said quietly.
“You’re mom told me about Harry.” She said.
I sighed closing my eyes and shaking my head. “Am I crazy Nana? I mean for wanting him back?”
“Baby, here’s what I think. If you love him, then you love him. Forgive him, everyone makes mistakes. We are human after all. It’s our job to mess up. If your Papa never would have forgiven me for some of the stuff I did way back when, we never would have gotten married. I never would have realized how crazy I am about that man in there.” She said looking into the kitchen window where my grandfather stood with my uncle and mom. They were all laughing at something he said. It brought a smile to my face. “Nothing and no one could or should stop you from being with the one you love.”
I looked at her with tears lining my eyes. “Thank you Nana. I’ve missed you so much.” She hugged me tightly. Her hugs were the best, always so comforting and full of love. I missed them.
“You’re so welcome baby. I’ve missed you too, you need to come around more often! We could use a little more Tay around this town. Don’t be a stranger.”
I giggled, “Yes ma’am.”
She rose from her seat and turned to walk back in the house. She opened the door but then closed it back. “Tay?”
“Ma’am?” I asked looking at her.
“If you want him back, go get him.”
** I stared at my phone that sat in my hand. The number already dialed, all I had to do was press one button and I would be connecting to him. One button and I’d be able to hear the velvet voice that I longed to hear. One button. Just one button. I contemplated. Thoughts racing through my mind as I tried to make a decision.
I felt as if hours passed as I just sat there in the same position. I glanced at the clock, 10:36 p.m. I sighed, giving in and pressing the button.
It rang. And rang. And ra-
“Hello?” His scratchy morning voice answered.
“Um, hey.” I said quietly.
“Taylor?” His voice asked suddenly alert.
“Y-yeah.” I stuttered. “I just needed to talk to you.”
I heard him shuffle in the background. “Okay, I’m listening.”
I hesitated, taking a deep breath before speaking again. “I miss you so much.”
He sighed, “I miss you too.”
“No, Harry I mean I really miss you. I miss us, I miss everything we were. Everything we had. Everything. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be! We’re supposed to be together, and happy. We’re supposed to be in love. We’re supposed to be with each other.” I started, the tears flowing down my face. I was surprised I had any tears left as much crying as I’d done these past few months. “I love you Harry, I love you so much. So much that it hurts me, so much that I’ve learned to grow up and forgive you. So much that I’m willing to do anything to get you back at this point.”
The line was silent. After a few moments of silence he sniffled. “Baby you never lost me.” He said as his voice quivered. “I was the one who lost you.”
**
Hours passed as we talked. We reminisced on old times. I smiled bigger than I had in a while. I’d been the happiest I’ve been in a while. I had Harry back, that’s all I wanted.
“When do you go home?” He asked.
“The twenty-seventh.” I answered. “When are you set to arrive?”
He chuckled. “The twenty-eighth.”
I glanced at the clock once more, 3:23 A.M. I giggled, “Haz we’ve been on the phone for four hours.”
“I know, but I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve missed hearing your voice and your laugh. I’ve missed you baby.” He said, his velvet voice like music to my ears.
“I’ve missed you too, but now I need sleep!” I giggled.
“Sweet dreams, baby.” He said.
“Good morning Hazza.” I smiled.
“Oh Merry Christmas darling.”
**
“Morning.” I said smiling sleepily as I walked into the living room where my brother had already started opening presents.
“Morning baby. Merry Christmas.” My dad said shoving his video camera in my face like he usually did on Christmas morning.
“Dad, really? I’m eighteen now.” I said pushing it away.
“Exactly all the more reason to keep doing it!” He exclaimed.
“Daddy!” I whined. He chuckled kissing my forehead.
As we opened presents we laughed and had a great time just being with each other. I missed my family. It made everything worth it just to see them and enjoy their company.
“So I heard you on the phone rather early this morning.” My mom said as I helped her clean up the mess.
I blushed before smiling, “It was Harry.”
“And?”
“We’re good. Actually we’re better than good, we’re great.” I smiled thinking of our conversation.
“I’m glad.” She smiled warmly.

As I walked through the airport, fans greeted me warmly. I smiled for a few pictures and signed a few autographs. I was ushered to the large black vehicle that waited in front of the airport.
@TaylorBriMoore: Hope everyone had an amazing Christmas! Now it’s time for New Year’s! Only three more days Tayter tots! #countdown
I trudged tiredly into my apartment ready to fall into my fluffy bed. Setting my purse and carry-on down, I noticed two place settings at the dining room table. I just brushed it off knowing it was probably Ryder on one of her cooking rampages.
I padded into my bedroom changing into leggings and an oversized sweater. Walking back out, I noticed the absence of Ryder in the kitchen.
“Ryder?” I called out. No answer. “Ry?”
I walked to the stove to peek a her latest creation, fajitas making me think of Harry. He always made them when I visited. I missed him.
“Smells good Ry!” I shouted recovering the pan.
“Thank you.” A deep voice said behind me. “But I don’t think Ryder deserves the credit.”

My heart fluttered at the sound of the familiar voice. I turned quickly and before Harry had time to process another thought he had an armful of me. My arms wrapped tightly around his neck as his were around my waist. His fave buried in my hair pressing soft kisses to my head. I smiled, hugging him tighter. “Well this has got to be the best welcome I’ve gotten in a while.”

I giggle pulling back just enough to attach my lips with his. Our lips moved in sync as we became lost in each other. This was not just a kiss, it wasn’t just a “welcome home, I’ve missed you” kiss, it was a reassuring kiss. It was the kiss that told me he still loved me, that I still loved him just as I did two months ago.
We broke and I looked up at his beaming smile and bright eyes. My fingertips grazed along his cheekbone before my finger poked the deep dimple on his right cheek. He just simply stared at me, like he did when we first met. I felt 16 again. I felt whole again. I felt like me.
“I love you.” We said in unison. I giggled and he pressed a tender kiss to my forehead.
**
We laid out on the balcony on one of the lounge chairs. I sat in his lap, his arms were wrapped around me tightly as we snuggled into the blankets. Every now and then he’d press sweet kisses to my lips.
image
I wished I could’ve stayed in that moment forever. Frozen in time with the one I love.
We decided not to discuss the New Year’s issue, just letting it slide for the night. All we were focused on was each other, nothing else mattered.
“I’m sorry…” He said into my hair.
“Let’s not talk about that. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that we’re here with each other, yeah? We love each other, that’s all that I’m worried about right now.” I said.
His thumb skimmed my cheekbone, before pressing yet another kiss to my slightly swollen lips. “You ready for bed?”
As if on cue, I yawned. He took that as a yes and carried me to my bedroom.
Laying down, he pulled me close and kept his strong arm around me, pressing a kiss to my ear.

“Oh I almost forgot.” Harry started, reaching in my side drawer to fish something out. He pulled the silver chain from the drawer before shutting and sitting me up. The necklace was clasped around my neck. “Now it’s safely where it belongs.”
I smiled touching the small charm before turning around to kiss his awaiting lips. “I love you.”
“I love you.” He replied pulling me back down. I snuggled into him, and for the first time in what seemed like forever, I fell asleep happy.
