“I can’t believe you’re all leaving in a few weeks, what am I going to do with myself then?” Lauren whined.
“It’s crazy, but you have Mark to hang out with. Just make sure you’re not pregnant when we get back.” I joked and she hit me on the arm.
“Shut up, I could say the same to you.” My face scrunched in confusion.
“What do you mean? I won’t be getting it on with anyone, thank you very much.”
“Sure, sure, you’re going to be away with two guys who are after you, and there will probably many more along the way. You never know what might happen.”
“No way Lauren, that is so not happening at all. Nope, ew why did you even say that?” I cringed.
“Yeah right, I’ll have to get all the goss from Chantelle then.”
“How would she know?”
“Are you serious Bill? She’s going on tour with you, Ash asked her this morning.” My mouth fell agape before a smile took its place and I began clapping my hands chanting ‘yay yay yay’.
“Are you kidding me? How did I not know this was happening? How come she hasn’t told me yet?”
“Yeah, and there’s more-” she was cut off by the sound of my doorbell ringing and I bounced off the bed, ran past Calum and wrenched the door open.
“Chantelle! Ashton! Yay!” I cheered as I pulled Chantelle into a hug. They both blushed at my words but I brushed it off. “I can’t believe you’re coming on tour with us, this is going to be great. I’m so glad you asked her Ashy!”
“Well I couldn’t exactly leave my girlfriend behind, especially since I just asked her to be mine.” I squealed and bounced happily.
“Finally, I’ve been waiting for you to get your shit together for ages Ashton, yay!” I hugged him again as they both stood there blushing like crazy. Young love is adorable. I wish I was in love… you are stupid, you’re in love with Luke.
I quickly shook that thought out of my brain as I pulled away from Ashton and grinned ecstatically at the two who were now holding hands. An arm draped around my shoulder and I was pulled into Calum’s body.
“Calm down, baby,” he told me, laughing at my excitement. “Congrats you two, by the way,” Ash sent Calum a quick glare but Chantelle smiled and thanked him.
Lauren moved from her position in the doorway to give Chantelle a hug. “Welcome to the family, it’s taken a while but I always knew you belonged here.” She pulled away from Chantelle and ruffled Ashton’s curls. “Finally, I thought I was going to die before you found your brains and asked her out.” She said dramatically as Ash fake pouted at her.
“You’re a meany-poo, come here and give me a hug and a proper congratulations,” she shook her head in a teasing manner but Ashton grabbed her anyway and spun her around.
“Congratulations Ashton, you chose well and I’m happy for you.”
The lift pinged and the doors opened to reveal an upset looking Michael and my mind immediately jumped to our recent conversation about him and Danielle. Crap, that’s probably what this is about and here we all are looking happy in our ‘relationships’ and here he is hurting. He ambled along the corridor to us, patting Ashton on the back and congratulating him before he walked past the rest of us and into my flat. I slid from Calum’s grip to follow after him just to check if he was ok.
I found him slumped in his usual spot on my couch, head in his hands. I slid in next to him and wrapped my arm around him comfortingly.
“Danielle?” I asked in a whisper.
He nodded and let out a shaky breath. “I walked in on them, her and another guy. She was cheating on me in our bed, in our flat. I know I said that it was going to end soon, and that I shouldn’t be acting like this but I’m hurt. I’m really hurt. What am I supposed to do now? I don’t want to sleep in that bed again, I don’t want to live there anymore, I don’t want to see her ever again. Who the heck thinks it’s okay to cheat on someone, fuck?”
“Hey, she’s a bitch Michael, she cheated on you and that’s horrible. You remember when Jeremy and I broke up? That’s because he was cheating on me. I know how it feels, but you’re not in the wrong, even though you feel as if you’re not good enough, she’s the one who made the mistake. She’s the one who isn’t good enough for you. I know you spent so long on this relationship and you put everything in it but you have to let her go, you can be hurt because it’s hard to lose a person, but remember you are wanted and you are good enough and that we’ll all be here for you if you need anything. Plus you can take the room Calum supposedly moved into because he tends to sleep in my room anyway.”
“Thank you,” he murmured as he hugged me, burying his face in the crook of my neck as he let a few tears go. My heart ached to see one of my closest friends in this position and I could tell the others, who had come into the living room soon after me, felt the same way.
Michael pulled away from me and quickly wiped his eyes. “This is so embarrassing,” he mumbled under his breath.
“Hey, don’t be so hard on yourself. She’s an idiot to do that to you mate, I’d beat her up but she’s a girl and that would probably be considered inappropriate.” Ash told him as he plopped down on Michael’s lap and threw his arms around his neck. I got up and let Ashton take the seat next to me so the two could have a Mashton moment and went over to where the other three were talking.
“Guys, we have to cheer him up and distract him from what’s happened today. That also means no kissing and try and restrict the amount of cuddling going on because the reminder that everyone else is happy and in a relationship will really hurt him as well. Are you going to be able to handle that, I know that’s annoying for you, Telle, since you’ve just made it official and all but please try and keep your hands off from each other for his sake. And are Luke and Gabrielle coming because Gabrielle might be a bit harder to handle when it comes to that, and they both probably won’t understand how we’re handling this situation.”
“You’re right, and you don’t have to worry about them, or at least not yet, they’re on a fake date for most of the day at least. Are you just thinking movies?” I rolled my eyes about Luke and Gabrielle, before nodding and turning back to face Mikey and Ash.
“Are you guys just up for some movies today, I don’t really feel like going out and there’s some work I need to finish before we leave for tour and I was hoping to get it done today?” They all shrugged and nodded in agreement and soon we were putting on The Avengers and settling in on the couch.
“Is he going to be ok?” Calum whispered in my ear during the movie. We were sitting next to each other and I was leaning on him slightly, trying not to make Mikey too uncomfortable.
I nodded my head. “Yeah, it’ll take him a while to get over it but he had suspected that this was going to happen. It’s going to be hard for him to get over her but he will and he’ll find someone better for him and he’ll be happy.”
“Is it bad to say I’m glad she’s gone?” I hit him on the arm and giggled.
“It’s a bit soon wouldn’t you say?” he shrugged and started leaning in but I put my finger to his lips and shook my head. He sighed and rolled his eyes, moving to rest his head in the crook of my neck.
“You’re annoying.”
“I told you the rules of today, and Luke’s not here anyway so why would we have to?” He just shook his head and took a deep breath.
“I’m going to the bathroom, I’ll be back soon.” I nodded and let him go and refocussed on the movie.
~Calum~
Luke, Luke, Luke, it’s always Luke. I love the boy, he’s like my brother but everyone always wants him, he’s the cute, awkward and shy one and everyone wants him and not me. I thought that I had a chance with Lily but she was also too far gone, I’m always going to be the best friend, nothing more. I should have never suggested that we should make Luke jealous, he extended the contract with Gabrielle and hurt Lily in the process which is the complete opposite of what Lily was hoping for. And I’m here with the girl I love who doesn’t even want me.
“Oh, hey,” Ashton mumbled in surprise as he walked into the hallway I was pacing. “Are you okay?” I waved him off. “Calum, I know I haven’t been the best friend to you of late, I was just mad about what happened and I didn’t bother to consider your feelings in the matter. But putting that aside, I know you really well Calum, you’re my brother, I know that something’s wrong so please tell me.”
“I’m so stupid Ashton, I should have listened to you and not be so stupid in the first place. I’m so dumb.”
“What’s going on Calum?”
“Lily’s in love with Luke and Luke’s in love with Lily. Lily and I are only together to make Luke jealous, it’s fake, or at least it is to Lily. But I like her to, I have feelings for her. I thought that if she got with me she’d forget all about him and look at me in a new light. I even convinced Luke to extend his contract with Gabrielle and the only thing it did was hurt Lily and Luke. And now it’s hurting me.” I told him as I sunk down against the wall. “And if you want to say ‘I told you so’ then go ahead because you were right all along.”
“I’d never say that Calum, I’m glad you can recognise that you did something wrong but you were blinded by your feelings. It’s ok to like Lily but we all know they’re meant for each other, since day one you could tell. You’ll find the right person for you and you’ll be happy, like how I am with Chantelle. It hurts Luke to be with Gabrielle, and to see you with Lily, it’s just annoying that it’s taking this long for him to realise he should have done something to get Lily, he’s worried he’s too late now.”
“He’s not, she’s head-over-heels for him.”
“I know Calum, they could’ve just skipped this whole thing if they had gotten their shit together, they could have been happy from the start but we’re here and now and they’re not, and you’re not. Stop hurting yourself and them, you can still do the right thing. I’ll handle Gabrielle. Okay?”
“Yeah, I guess.”
“Dammit Calum, you ruined my TFIOS moment,” I rolled my eyes at him and got up, giving him a hand up after.
“Thanks for everything, Ashton.”
“It’s what I’m here for Calum, now can we please go back because I miss my girlfriend.” He smiled dreamily and I pushed him towards the living room where the others were.
