Roses and Thorns

It Started There, & Reached Here. (1st Chapter)

..........................
Janelle's POV:

..........................

Life teaches you to overcome your weakness, and rise from them like the phoenix glides out of the ashes. I have been through extreme changes in my life, since I turned fourteen. I lost both of my beloved parents, on a yacht accident at that year. They were celebrating their fifteenth wedding anniversary, when the ship burned into the water. Sea investigators claimed that the engine of the ship was running without any supervision, thus leading it to collapse.

Since that day, the closest friends to my parents adopted me. Yes I am a Parrish still, but I have joined the Edwards's family. They have dealt with my mourning in complete care and understanding. The only obstacle in my new home, was the diva of the house; aka Perrie. She and I used to fight over everything, and as in fights I don’t mean the sisterly kind.

Perrie and I went to the same high school and to the same college. I was always known for being Perrier’s sister, and not as just Janelle. I was a shadow in the mystical life of the blonde superstar. Why do I call her a superstar you might ask? Well, lets see what I can remember of her life path. Perrie was always winning any beauty contest that the school or college ran.

Her pictures were always covering the ridiculous yearbooks. She dated the finest of all guys in both territories; but hey I was also a winner… a different kind of winner. I was the one that you may call ‘the brainy’ of this household. I used to come back home with countless certificates dangling from my hand. Captain of the debate team, the drama club, the chess team, you name it. But all I got was the knowledge, and the true confident qualities were granted to Perrie.

I met at college a few friends, but one in particular was my secret desire. I desired him more of a friend through the four years of college. He and I got along better than anyone else. We used to mock the college society and their silliness. He, just like me, was the brainy back then. He taught me things and so did I; we basically helped each other to evolve ourselves’ intellect together.

He with those smoky quarts eyes, he with that hair of midnight shadows, he with those perfectly aligned pearly teeth, he with the name of Zayn Malik. Zayn’s friendship to me grew each day, but little that he knew that I always was fascinated about him. He would flirt with me playfully, and I would be jumping on a trampoline deep inside. Nothing between us was serious, and I have always feared that if I admitted my feelings to him, we would crash like shattered glass.

On graduation day, I have finally set my goal to let out all of my feelings to him, but that never happened. Why? Well, this is the heart-plunging part. As I stood with Zayn alone after graduation, Someone had to pop out of nowhere, that person was someone I could never compete with… Perrie. She met Zayn at that day, and I know by her sneaky flirtation and pretended innocent acts, that I have lost my chance with Zayn forever. Since that day and they have been always around each other. Zayn would try to spend time with me, his closest friend, but Perrie had always departed us from each other.

Now, and after four years of that memory, I am away from him. I am away from being hurt by seeing them exchange affection with each other, I am away of making my heart bleed internally. I moved out to London, and built my character and career, as I now own a high position in a publishing house. My job is my life, and nothing else could break us apart, not even Perrie. I dropped all contact with Zayn since the day I moved out, clearly not wanting the hurt to keep on stabbing me anymore.

I am always in touch with my stepparents, but whenever one of them tries to tell me anything concerning Perrie; I usually find an alibi to change the subject. She twisted my weak hand, by taking him away… but hey isn’t that life? You know like the known saying: 'You can’t always get what you want in life'. I know that I have no chance with having him back in my life, since he chose someone. Adding to that, I have changed from the naïve girl I used to be. I more demanding and powerful, and my career helped me in building my confidence that I never had before today.
