Chapter 6

Chapter 6

I angrily stomped into the house slamming his car door shut behind me. Storming past the assemblage of boys that sat in the living room, I walked down the hall, and into my room slamming that door shut, too. How did I end up in this hellhole of a school? My face was nestled into my black plush pillow as the door to my dorm creaked open.

“Hey,” Cameron's gentle voice spoke beside me as the bed dipped. “I know you’re not in the mood, but we have work tomorrow morning. We have to take a flight to L.A. for the meeting.”

“Why Los Angeles.” I groan into the pillow.

“Some sort of work deal. My father wants us there to make the deal rather than one of the blondes he found for Harry.” I groan out, turning my head to see her.

“I wish I could leave now.” I tell her, and her eyes light up.

“We can. I just thought you might have not wanted to. We could spend the day out before the meeting!” She beamed.

“Okay.” I mutter, mentally planning outfits for our trip.

“I’m going to go get the tickets from my dad. I’ll tell you which airport when I have them.” She smiles rushing out the door, and closing it quietly behind her.

It would be refreshing to leave the campus for a few days. I would be able to rest, and not worry about future outbursts with the short-tempered idiot I had to deal with. I could eat normal food for a few days, explore somewhere elsewhere than the dreadful hallways on my dreary campus, and alas relax in the sun. Something I indeed have missed out on. I sighed out as I finished packing the small luggage of outfits I had packed.

Grabbing my bag, I rolled my luggage out of my room before quietly attempting to escape before anyone had asked any questions. Every step I took, I would slowly lug the luggage along with me. Sluggishly attempting to tip toe my way out.

“Where are you going?” A hoarse voice spoke from behind me. Startled I jumped up in fright, clasping a hand over my rapid heartbeat.

“Jesus, you scared me!” I admonish.

“You’re acting as if that’s something new, Bambi.” He smirks slightly.

“I’m leaving,” I joke, noticing his gaze harden from the luggage and onto me.

“Why?”

“I don’t think that’s any of your business,” I reply. “Now will you please excuse me, I have a plane to catch.” I nudged past him, making it towards the door.

Surprisingly he hadn’t come slamming the door shut or tried to stop me. Which was not only surprising, but weird. I shook the nagging thought that I would somehow miss his idiotic tantrums while away at LA. The sudden emotion had caught me off guard, as I knew I was going to come back in a few days. I would be back here in a few days, no worries. I told myself.

“CAMERON I’M FREAKING OUT! AARON NEVER TOLD ME THIS!” I screeched at my best friend.

“Well neither did I, this is the biggest merge in the history of BE. He was always telling me that the company was reluctant to come through, due to the fact that they didn’t want to change their name. It’d skyrocket our funds, and this merge would convince plenty of other companies to merge with us as well. He just never could get around convincing the CEO. I can only wish you the best of luck babe.” She weakly smiles at me.

How could Aaron leave me this merge, I just assumed I would do normal CEO doings? Look over financial changes, and look at future companies to invest in. Never once did I fret that I’d have to make a proposition with a huge corporation. I silently take a deep breathe in, and shut my eyes. My hands were trembling, and my knee’s felt like Jell-O. I was not prepared, but since I was already standing outside of NH Industries I couldn’t back away.

Turning the knob slightly, I attempted to confidently stride in as all eyes fell onto me.

“And who must you be?” A strong voice with a deep accent questioned me. My stern gaze faltered slightly as my eyes met his; His accent as strong as his appearance, icy blue eyes, broad shoulders, and a dominant stance. Any girl would melt in front of him, and his piercing stare. I was surprised I hadn’t, and lucky that I haven’t.

“Temporary CEO of Preston Enterprises nice to meet you.” I trailed off narrowing my eyes as a signal for him to tell me his name.

“Mr. Horan… CEO of NH Industries. Pleasure to meet the new CEO. I assume you’re here to make another deal?” He smirked.

“Well…I’m not here to have a brunch date now am I?” I stare blankly at him, and he chuckles out.

“Straight forward. I like you.” He smiles widely, and I admire how handsome he was. Stop it Mia. You’re working.

“Now, as you all know Aaron Preston has failed to convince you to merge with us on multiple occasions, but I will not. My plan is simple and straightforward, I do not intend on buttering you up on false claims, and I don’t plan on kissing any of your ass’s,” I pause smiling slightly, and the room full of men chuckle at my forwardness.

Mentally, my inner self scrambled around trying to grab at bits and pieces of her composure. Although she knew it was crumbling down. How was she able to act normal, around someone whose merge could make millions? How am I to convince these men? You’re a female. My subconscious reminded me, and I slightly cringed at the fact that I would have to charm these men over.

Pulling out a piece of paper I walked over to the middle of the table, and bent over tracing out a layout plan. “You see this is my company, and that is yours.” I quickly draw a stick figure. “I assume all of you have your own asset’s…Envisage the outcome of conjoining all your asset’s with mine,” I cock a brow at Mr. Horan, and connect all the companies together with small scrawny lines.

“Merging with Preston would build an empire. . . A vast one if you must know, but I know many of you are doubtful. Empires fall, and the second best will rise... Therefore eliminating the second best, and making us one…We will be an unbeatable empire making deals that you wouldn’t imagine. I assure you, you won’t make an oversea deal alone. . .I’ll let you all decide, call me when you accept my offer. Otherwise don’t even bother.” I smile widely, taking a huge mental sigh as I gather my bag, and proceed to leave. I quickly pray that I didn’t royally jumble everything up, but as I was to leave, a slight clear of his throat was what caught my attention.

A small smirk etched onto my face, I turn slightly flashing an innocent look towards the table of men.

“I’ll merge!” An older man adds, and Horan practically growls at him.

“Please excuse us men, I’ll call you back on the final deal.”

Gliding his finger through his tinted hair, he huffed out in defeat, turning slightly to face me. “You know, I never thought I’d ever be agreeing to this proposition...” He shakes his head.

“I’m the best.” I smile, and he simply peers up at me.

“You are, that and you’re fit. They were practically drooling on the damn table.” He snickered.

“I’ll pretend you didn’t say that and move on with this…agreement?”

“I’ll sign, and send over the papers early tomorrow morning. Pleasure meeting you Ms…” He paused, expecting me to say my name as he outstretched his arm.

“I’ll be expecting the papers tomorrow. Pleasure doing business with you Mr. Horan,” I purr, before exiting, leaving him standing there…speechless.

How’s that for charm? I mentally pranced around the halls, but waited until I was in the car with Cameron to squeal.

“We got the deal!” I shrieked, and her eyes bulged out.

“Oh my god,” She mumbled. “Dad’s going to have a heart attack.” She giggled starting the car, and speeding off into the LA highway.

……..

“I can’t believe you actually got them to agree to the merge!” Aaron smiled brightly as the phone on his desk vibrated loudly. Pausing he held the phone to his ear, as his once happy expressions slowly faded into a concerned one. “Okay,” He replies, before covering the mouth piece with his hand. “Your father would like to speak to you,” He admits, and my brows furrow together. Why hadn’t he called me first?

“Father?”

“Since when did you start calling me father? I thought Daddy was always the to go to reference, darling.” He chuckles on the other line.

“It seems you’ve caught me by surpsie? I thought you were in Italy for business,” I question still confused as to why he was calling me now.

“I am, Emilia. That is why I called. We have some serious matters that need tending.”

“And what may that be?”

“The companies not doing well. Seems as if we are the last overseas company that hasn’t merged with some higher power. This so called monopoly is trying to launder money under our noses, and that’s not happening. Our business could go down the drain. I bought a first class flight to Italy, for you tonight at the LAX.”

“Father, this is indignation!” I counter, and he sighs over the line.

“Claude Verdi will not bow down to failure,” He warned, and I felt torn.

“How is this in any way fair? I have class, and friends, and a social life. I can’t just get up and leave to help the company mid-semester! I’m sure any of my other siblings would be happy to take my place.”

“Niklaus, and Rhiannon are already situated here. Milada will arrive around the time that you do.”

“What about clothes, and my dorm? Will I be able to stay once I come back?”

“Emilia, you may buy more clothes here. Your dorm has been paid off for all the years you plan to stay there. Your mother and I have two very different viewpoints, therefore money for your education is no problem for me. I hope to see you in the morning.” He hangs up, and I groan in defeat.

“Aaron, I’m sorry. I have to be with dad to help out the company. I hope that this is no way jeopardizes my position here.” I place his phone back onto the receiver before grabbing my bag beside me.

“Of course not Emilia. Your father and I are very close. I know the company is going to through a rocky path right now, I’m sure all of you can work out this ordeal in no time. Now go on get your luggage and go. I’ll tell Cameron everything if you don’t make it on time to tell her.” He smiles before waving me off.

Italy, here I come.
