Chapter 1

Chapter 1
Mistakes

**READ AUTHORS NOTE PLEASE**

How is one able to overcome an obstacle that overpowered them so deeply? How could you fight off something that took every ounce of you? I questioned myself those exact same questions. …How? A fantasy was what I was living, really... and that fantasy was unfortunately my life. Every minute of the day, I confused myself into thinking that life would turn around. It would whip itself into shape, and engulf me into my old life. But it didn’t. My new one stayed, dragging it’s way through it’s current agonizing stage.

And here I was, moving out. Yet, the only thing I did know was moving was not a preferred option. Sprawled across my sheets, I couldn’t help but wish I could chain myself to my house, and throw the key somewhere no one could find it. Simply, lay here listening to the birds whispers, and chirps throughout my day. Of course, that option would never be in my favor. Nothing was ever in my favor.

“Emilia honey! Are you up yet? You must meet Cameron in 2 hours.” My mom reminded me behind the door, slightly peeking in to see that I was motionless. Her heels clicking against the wooden floor, and at the slight dip of the bed… I knew I was in for a pep talk.

“This is your chance to make a difference Emilia darling, you know that if your father and I had more money we would have let you stay, but being that your father and I no longer share the money we once did, it is impossible for us to support you.”

She smiled down at me, and I cringed internally. Her sweet smile, and concerned look could easily fool any other, but not me. I knew her plan…her scheme to ship me off to college, and live lavishly once my father announced their divorce some nights ago.

“Don’t pull the sincere card on me mother. Cutting me off, and sending me to a university with people I am not comfortable with, does not make a difference. Just because you and dad divorced doesn’t mean I’m your rag doll you can fling wherever, and whenever you’d like. Did you not pay one ounce of attention when we visited that school? Not one lurking soul there was sober when I had arrived. The only good that comes from that school, is that I get to dorm with Cameron, and that our room is larger than standard.” I huffed out, crossing my arms over my chest.

“Dear, not only that, but you get to work with Cameron at a prestigious empire! Your career would skyrocket, and you’ll be able to support yourself in no time…. Your father and I’s decision has nothing to do with you going off to BSU. But on another note, make sure you look up to par. Enough with the folding of your arms Emilia. Don’t forget to make sure your makeup is beautiful, and that your hair is properly styled. Do you understand that?” She scolded me but my only response was rolling my eyes.

Of course she would be more concerned on my appearance to school rather than my actual well-being.

“Well, then I should get on. My bags are in the trunk right?” I questioned my mother who still sat at the edge of my bed.

“Yes. Cameron informed me that she would be meeting you at campus. Hurry now, before you’re late, the traffic could be horrendous.” She warned patting my thigh, as she exited the room.

Taking a glance at my profile before leaving, I smoothed out the fabric of my pirouette skirt before twirling around once more. Simple, and vintage, I smiled to myself before wondering what Cameron would say once she saw my apparel. Of course she hated my clothing, and had insisted that I wore something much more appealing for the first day of school, but as always, I refused.

Never did I fathom the attention of men…. Huffing out, I glanced over my reflection one last time. I look good. I told myself, before grabbing my bag, and heading off to the campus of horror.

………

Hours of driving, and I finally had made it onto campus. Throwing my bags onto the floor, I glanced around the room to find Cameron plopped upon her full sized bed. Her steady gaze on the ceiling faltered at the drop of my bags.

“Emilia! You made it- oh god what are you wearing.” She gasped at my outfit, and I looked down quickly hoping I hadn’t spilled anything on it.

“What, is there a tear or something?”

“No, it just looks hideous. The only thing appealing about the outfit is that your not wearing a bra, and your headlights are quite prominent.” She laughed, and I quickly covered my chest.

“Do they look too big? Or unshapely” I looked down suspiciously before narrowing my eyes at her. “…AND for your information, I like the way I dress.”

“No, for god’s sake, your rack is bigger than half the campus’s small tits combined together. Just…let me do a makeover. We’ll go shopping I’ll pick out something that’s your style, and super hot, and we totally go out tonight. Some hot frat boys told me there would be a party tonight.” She cocked her head, and smirked.

“No, not buying it. Hands down, it’s a no.” I crossed my arms over my chest.

“OH COME ON! You have a legitimate fake I.D, and a body girl’s would die for. I don’t see why you don’t go out more often!”

“The fake I.D was for when I used to be insane. I drank more than an alcoholic, and went out to more clubs than a dj.”

“And that’s who I miss! Oh come on, I’m asking you to go out, not kill someone. PLEASE!” She begged running over to me.

“Fine.” I rolled my eyes as she frantically jumped up and down.

I sighed, knowing that I somehow always ended up going out when I was around Cameron. Hanging up the remainder half of my clothes onto the rack, my mind meandered to when I used to be a frequent club goer. 16, and inquisitive… I had an I.D that would make real New York State I.D’s look counterfeit. I couldn’t say I regretted my time then, but it was also just a phase. The thrill of clubbing soon died down a few years later, and here I was in a university. Not as thrilled to go clubbing as many of the freshman that stumbled onto campus would.

Packing the last draw full of my items, I was relieved. No more unpacking…I smiled to myself before plopping myself next to Cameron. Her eyes fixed on a picture that her ex recently posted up.

“Glad you finished unpacking your whole damn closet, but have you seen her.” She pointed at the girl posing next to her ex.

“Let him be, you have plenty of hot college boys here that would die just to be noticed by you.” I nudged her, but she simply shook her head.

“Still….Whatever… But it’s not like I’ve run into any hot guys here.” She groaned, flipping onto her back.

“They’re probably sleeping off their hangover Cami…Anyway. I’m heading out to get some school apparel, and all the necessities. Do you need anything?” I questioned, holding the door open with one foot.

“Nope, I got everything before you came. Maybe we can get some takeout after?”

Nodding my head, I closed the door, throwing my keys in my bag, and heading out of our dorm. Walking towards my car, my eyes halted at a cluster of boys outside of our house. You could practically smell danger and by the looks of one of them, I knew it was most likely the Sigma Phi frat boys. Wonder what they’re doing outside of our dorms, and not inside their frat house.

Whatever.

…..

Grabbing my items from the backseat, I stumbled out of the car, and pressed the lock button on my key, before walking back inside, and unlocking my dorm room.

“Hey, you finished?” Cameron questioned, as I plopped nine tenths of all the items I had to buy.

“I have two textbooks back at the car, after that, I’ll primp up, and we’re ready to go.” She nodded her head, and I jogged back out, and towards my car to retrieve the last two textbooks.

These textbooks are heavier than life.

Lugging myself back up the stairs, and towards the dorm, I was pulled back by a strong grip, and pushed onto the wall.

“What the hell are you doing here?” A thick British accent snarled, and I jumped back in panic. My eyes skimming over his features, I noticed the black ink peeking through parts of his shirt, and how his muscles flexed when they gripped harder onto my arm.

“Did you hear me?” He shook my upper arm, and my eyes shot to his. A once light green, it evolved into a dark forest color when met with mine. What little time I had to observe him, I knew something about him oozed menace. Not including the fact that he was probing me for an answer.

“I-I live here.” I mumbled looking down at my textbooks that were now pressed tightly against my chest.

“That’s impossible. This is Sigma Phi…not Sigma Pi. You belong in the sorority house not our frat house.” He growled, releasing his grip from my arm to push back the strands of hair that managed to fall from his pushed back curls.

“Well that’s not my problem now is it. We were told this was our dorm.” I quietly responded, trying to bite back the ounce of brazenness that grew in my belly.

“We? So there’s another girl here too? Where’s your room?” He questioned.

“Down the hall, and to the left. The last room.”

“You got the master dorm! This is ridiculous.” He shook his head before storming out of the dorms. What a jerk. I mumbled.

Running back towards the dorm, I whipped the door open, and locked it shut quickly before scrambling over to my best friend.

“You look like you just saw a ghost. What happened?”

“I…I was walking back, and some jerk with an accent practically flung be against the wall claiming we weren’t supposed to be here. This isn’t even a dorm it’s a house!” I exclaimed.

“What…why would he do that? And well yeah, I noticed it wasn’t like what other dorms usually look like, but I didn’t think much of it.” She shrugged, still not catching my drift.

“It’s Sigma Phi’s frat house!”

“What! We didn’t sign up for Greek life! And even if we did, why are we housed in the frat, and not the sorority!” Her eyes bulged out as we both tried to figure out why we were staying in the Greek life campus.

“Well there’s like two walk in closets, a big bathroom, and a vanity room. Excluding the beds, and desks. Maybe they knew, and didn’t have room. It doesn’t seem like a mistake. Everything’s so convenient.”

“I don’t know but I guess we’ll find ou-“ The loud knocks at our door cut her off, and she ran over to the door opening it widely to find the jerk, and what looked like a supervisor walk in.

“They’re not supposed to be here.” He pointed at me, and the supervisor simply cocked his head to the side.

“Are you Emilia V. Rose?” I nodded slightly, and he continued. “You’re dorming with Cameron Preston? And as I recall your father paid the full dorm fee for however long you plan on staying.” I nodded again, and he sighed turning back to the foreign, and unwanted jerk.

“Yes, yes they are. The dorms were full, and they paid more than enough money to reside in the master dorm.” He flatly stated.

“This is Sigma Phi! They’re girls! Only frats that pledge stay here.”

“I’m sorry girls for the inconvenience. Harry, I suggest you either pledge them or leave them alone. I prefer you choose the latter.” He nodded at us before exiting out of our dorm. Harry glaring at me before leaving.

“That’s the jerk you ran into?”

“Yea” I groaned, plopping on the bed.

“Well he was hot, I wouldn’t mind getting thrown against the wall by him either.” She smirked, before plopping beside me.

“I bought 12 of my favorite scented air fresheners! This room reeks of sweat, and I can’t bear with it much longer!” I changed the subject, turning slightly to face her.

“Mmm, I’ll set them up, and you go put something attractive on. Today will be Strobe, and next Friday, I have reserved tickets for Devil’s Playground. That, you’ll need something that has far less cloth than this.” She tugged at my crop, before nudging me to go into the bathroom, and change.

And for some odd reason, I was happy, and slightly excited for the nights that were to come, and for the night that was coming.

Slipping Cameron the I.D. I had recently got her, we made our way to the front of the line. Turning back slightly, I gave her a stern look before turning to the brawny bouncer, and folding my arms over my chest. His eyes scanned over my features before he stepped aside motioning for us to go through.

“How do you do that?” Cameron whispers turning back to face me.

“Years of experience sweetheart.” I grinned back at her.

“You know, for a girl who hasn’t gone out in years, and is wearing a frickin’ baby doll flare dress. I would’ve never had guessed, you would be the one getting us through.” She smiled cheekily before heading up the stairs.

My heeled shoes clicking against the marble stairs, I anxiously walked myself up a flight, before the bass of the music filled my ears. Reminding me of a time, where this was all something habitual. My hand squeezing onto Cameron’s as she guided me to the entrance of the club. The dimmed hallway that led into the club, darkened with each step, and the musk of sweat and alcohol overwhelmed my senses. But, before I could protest, and leave. Cameron dragged me towards the lights, and the rest was all a blur.

--
“Oh come on! One shot game. You’ll win a shit load of cash Mia!” Cameron shouted over the deafening sounds of music that blared throughout the speakers.

“That’s not my point, they’ll all be broke by the end of the game. I’d like to spare their wallets tonight!” I shouted back, but she only laughed before dragging me to the line of shots at the table. “She’ll do it!” She cheered, and the men at the bar simply shook their head.

“This fine little lady shouldn’t be having any more than one shot.” A boy with a strong British accent replied.

His smirk, and dark features made the bet all the more enticing than when it was first offered. I simply cocked a brow before lacing my fingers around the tall shot glass. “Wanna bet?” I smiled, and sniggered before knocking the drink back, and letting the strong liquid glide down.

“Well, if that’s how you want to play? Names Zayn” He smiled cheekily, before slapping a ten onto the counter. “Lads!” He shouted, and two heads shot back.

“That is Liam, and this is Louis.” He states, as they walk over to him. The trio all muscular, and attractive. “Lovely lady is about to bet ten dollars a shot. I bet she can’t get past five. Anything after that get’s double the money. You in?” He looked over at them. Louis was the first to shake his head, but Liam glanced down at the shot’s all lined up, and back up at me. His eyes hinting me to be careful before he turned his attention back to Zayn.

“You sure you want to force that on these girls?”

“Well, her beautiful friend over here can help her if anything.” He jerked his head slightly at Cameron, and she sheepishly looked away, before mumbling to me to ‘get on with it, he’s hot’

“You’re on. I’ll buy you tissues for your tears, once I dry you all out.” I snickered at the foolish trio, before turning to Cameron. “If you want, just take. I don’t care”

The first few I knocked back, were easy. The next row was nothing I couldn’t handle, and the last row, I finished in a blink of an eye. Laughing, as I gulped the last shot down, I looked back up at the trio before chuckling to myself.

“I believe you owe me money?” I laughed again, as they each slapped a few hundreds on the counter.

“Now that was a sight to see. She’s completely bladdered, and you’re just drunk.” Zayn gawked still wondering how I managed to drink one and a half dozen shots.

“Drunk, and a little bit richer.” I laughed, grabbing the pile of hundreds, and stuffing them into my clutch.

“You girls mind coming over, you’re still very drunk, and I hope you don’t all plan on driving home. We have a party in our frat house…You could stay with us?” Liam questioned, holding onto the tottering Cameron. “I won’t let them touch you.” He added.

“Heeyy, we live in a frat house too. Sigma Phi right Mia? We, we found out today when this sort of hot jerk with an accent yelled at Mia.” Cameron slurred, and I wanted to smack myself in the face.

“Frat? I assume you ran into Harry.” Liam questioned, while gently placing Cameron in the backseat of the car next to Zayn and Louis.

“Yea Sigma Phi, we got placed in the Master Room there. And something like that, he was a total jerk.” I chuckled, well aware of my intoxicated state of mind.

“Weird, you would’ve thought he would’ve tried to make a move on you. We live there too, don’t worry about him too much. We’re here if anything.” He smiled, gently patting my thigh. But it didn’t bother me too much, I knew I was safe around him, surprisingly.

Too focused on wondering when the effects of the shots were going to kick in, or if I was going to have to find more to drink, I barely noticed that we had reached our destination until I felt Liam pulling me out of the car. “I need more to drink.” I smiled at him, before wobbling my way to the front of the frat house, and opening it up to find it roaring with music, and intoxicated college students.

“Oooh rum.” I smiled down at the bottle I had grasped, before taking a few gulps. Mmm…Jameson Whiskey always hit’s the spot.

“Mia! No more” Liam shouted, grasping a hold of the top of the bottle.

“Yes more, I’m not drunk, and if I have to take care of a heaving Cameron in about an hour…I’d like to be drunk, and somewhat enjoying it.” I bargained with Liam pulling it back for another gulp. “Do you drink?” I added, and he simply shrugged his shoulders.

“I always end up driving the lads home, but when I do, we are very alike.” He smiled cheekily, before grabbing another amber filled bottle, and taking big gulps.

“You Liam, are my friend” I laughed, patting him on the chest before leading him to sit on the couch with me.

And after finishing our last shared bottle of dark amber liquid.I knew I was totally hammered. My mind swirling in circles whenever I shut my eyes, I laid back onto Liam’s shoulder. My legs crossed so that I wouldn’t be flashing anybody my undergarments, I found that being around Liam was fun.

“You’re fun” I beamed

“You’re fun too, but before I totally knock out, we should work on getting ourselves to our rooms.” He nods, before wobbling up to his knees, and pulling me up with him.

“My room’s right there” He pointed to the room down the hall. “But..” He waved a finger around. “I need to go in here, I lost my key, and my friend brought me my new one. Wait a bit, okay?” He smiled before walking into the room beside me.

I wasn’t exactly certain, as to what I was doing, nor did I really understand why I went out, all I knew was, that it was fun. I hadn’t had a night out like tonight, in years, and it was refreshing although I was quite embarrassed that I had evolved into the creatures that resided at the campus.

“I’m back, but he’s being a big baby, and won’t let me bring you into my room…” Liam paused, I assume swallowing some bile that had risen unexpectedly. “He thinks I’ll cheat on Sophia, but I would never do that. You’re a really nice friend.” He whispers, but before retreating into my room, he mouths a sorry, before shutting the door.

Weird. I thought to myself, grasping onto the wall beside me for some kind of support, but before letting my head fall, I was tugged in a different direction. The stranger’s strong grasp on my wrist, made me wince, and I tugged back, tumbling slightly before being snatched back up. My head can’t handle all this movement I thought before peering up at the stranger. His piercing green orbs, and intense gaze, made me nauseate at sight.

Pushing him back, I straightened out my dress before strutting back to the main floor for another drink. Jerk.

“Let’s go, you’re going back to your dorm.” He demanded, yanking me back towards him, and stomping to the end of hallway. My feet barely catching up with his, I desperately tried to keep up in heels, before I was pulled to a stop.

“At least give a girl some time to frickin’ walk. Jeez.” I mutter, before pulling out my key, and jamming it into the lock.

“I don’t need to waste my time on university harlots.” He rudely remarked.

“I am not, nor ever will be a university harlot, let along a harlot!” I barked back at him.

“You’re sure acting like one.” He scoffed, and I rolled my eyes.

“Coming from the jerk who tries to have sex with every female slut on campus.” I spit, but was unsure of whether my assumption of his reputation was correct or not.

“If you dress like one, you are one, love.” He replied smoothly, and my blood practically boiled.

“I’m wearing a baby doll dress, how in any right mind is that slutty, or harlot like for that matter!” I shouted at him, but before my mind could resist the urge to slap him, my palm had already collided with his face.

Gasping a little at my actions, I fumbled with my keys trying to jiggle the lock open in time before I would have to meet with an angrier British jerk. But my body was whisked around, and I was pushed onto the door. Nose to nose with the manner less asshole.

“Want to try that again princess?” He growled, and I stepped back warily, pushing myself into the door. “Don’t be surprised, tomorrow.” He seethed, before storming off down the hall.

What did I get myself into?
